Redstorm in Discussions to Publish Korean Rainbow Six Title in U.S.

Reported by: David Laprad

Redstorm Entertainment has confirmed with the Adrenaline Vault that it is in discussions to release a Korean-developed Rainbow Six title in the U.S. Featuring 26 Korean-themed maps and scheduled for a June 2001 release, the game is being created at design studio Kama. Keep a watch on this space for further news regarding this product. The Rainbow Six series is comprised of first-person tactical combat offerings in which gamers lead a multinational unit dedicated to stamping out terrorism around the globe. The most recent release in the series was R6:COE, in which gamers learn about counter-terrorist activities via reference materials and then administer the information in actual missions.

Um - we're back in that grey porting area again. There are a few places on the web where you can find a mod version of Takedown, which gives you the maps, new weapons, and a new splash screen. But it's illegal, I hasten to add. It's a commercial pack, only for sale, due to the bizarre licence agreement reached between Ubi and Kama, in Korea.

There are Mac versions floating around - and I know Evill has booted games started on Gameranger using them.

Serellan, over at Pie's, has arranged to import several copies and I bought one and tried to mod it for myself - there are quite a few things that I can't get to work - the new uniforms for example, and some of the maps have those dreaded blank textures - but I highly recommend buying it - and I'm more than happy to talk anyone through the conversion process I used once they've purchased a copy.

But downloading a copy of the game IS an infringement of intellectual property. So I can't support that. But it is VERY cool. Serellan's written up a full review of it at the Pie's site as well. Go and check it out - or better yet, don't - because it is SO superior to Black Thorn that you might get depressed at Ubi for not distributing it anywhere in the world outside Korea.

Let alone their abysmal, non-existent Mac support.

Oh well.

Toby, i've searched high and low on the seedy underbelly of the net. and i can't seem to fine a mod version of Takedown for mac.
i would buy it, if it was through a more certified reseller.

Why did I see the maps from this on fileplanet as a mod for Rogue Spear(not UO)?
