Hello folks, over at MGF, they've posted an Open Beta Rogue Spear patch.

We have reached the point that we feel an Open Beta of the Rogue Spear patch is in order. This will ensure that we get a good collection of data on the remaining problems in the game in a short period of time, and will thus keep this belated patch from being delayed any further.

Once you download the patch, unstuff it and read the "READ BEFORE INSTALLING PATCH" file, then double-click the updater to install the
update. We cannot think of an easy way to force you to read the "READ BEFORE INSTALLING PATCH" file before you install, so we are just going to pathetically beg you to read the file first:

Please, please, dear God, please read the "READ BEFORE INSTALLING PATCH" file before installing the patch.

This version fixes most of the known crashing and sound bugs, as well as allowing cross-platform networking, but does contain a few known bugs, particularly a bug which prevents the use of the "Random Map" function
in multiplayer games. Since we know about this one, we'd appreciate it if you didn't report it over and over again.

Mostly, we really need people to hammer on multiplayer games. Please play on GameRanger a lot if you really want to help.

Please send all bug reports to the address so we can fix the outstanding bugs in this product. If you don't report a bug, we don't know about it; if only one or two people report a bug, it will probably look like a localized issue and will not be fixed. If a bunch of people report a bug, it will be chased and, hopefully, fixed. That's how this works.

This patch will expire on July 4th, 2001, after which you will have to revert to the shipping version of Rogue Spear. We are sorry for the inconvenience of this, but unfortunately this is how we have to do it;
if you don't want to reinstall Rogue Spear after the 4th, then don't download this patch. We will sift through all the reports you will be sending (and you WILL be sending reports, right?), and will subsequently
release what we hope will be the final Rogue Spear patch.

I just played with my friend on a PC and it worked! its awesome i :-[ him every game we played, he sucked. He blamed it on his 56k, but i know a lot of people that are better than me that play on a 56k ?;D . anyway its awesome and i am glad it worked. if you have rogue spear get this patch and report the bugs while you have the chance... ok i am done preaching... for now...

OK ? First I would like to say that RS is my fav game untill it crashhes !! So I downloaded the patch and play for ?a reeeall long time with no probs ;D then It happens ?im In chat room ( dont remeber wich screen) and wammo :oRS quits on me WHY !!! ? ? I give RS plenty of mem I've even tried it with VM on..... ?I have a G4 500 ?256 and cable modem...This is the same thing that would happen to me before i installed the patch arrg ! ::) So anyway this is the only problem I'vr had so far but thats probly because GR has been down all freakin day !! Well I want RS to run GOOD ?so I'll email Macsoft with this one....Also ?before I installed the patch I had probs with game quiting at launch- a bad network freeze that would last about 1 to 3 min then come back--- and another thing I noticed after ?Installing the patch was my sound sounds screwy now I get sound bursts at launch of mission and somtimes in mid game play... anyone seen any of these ...GOOD LUCK TO US ALL ! :P

almost forgot !  where can  we go if GR is down to hook up some games ???   and why cant i see any IP #s in the multiplayer screen ... jeez this shit kills me ... I wish software developers would hurry up and get off there assses Macintosh won't be at the small market share  forever !

Hi I hope all RS players send tons of patch reports to MacSoft to ensure that this patch will really solve all problems we sweared about since the release of the game. Well unfortunaly I hadn't enough time to test this patch because I came back on 1st July and saw ?that there is a patch when I joined GR on 2nd July so DAMN. Well I hope you all paid enough attention to it to make RS worth playing as it is on the PC. If you didn't I can only say SSKM which means translated(word by word from german to english) "selfguilty no mercy".

I submitted a semi-long bug report with the ones I could find.. when I fix my HD.. I'll need to reinstall RS.. darn.. I liked that nearly bug-free patch :)

I DID get a reply from MacSoft though.. Nate himself, which was kinda cool :)

I caught a bug that they hadn't heard about before!

    Well I had probs like:  game quiting on me at weird times-just quiting one me !   I gave rs plenty of mem,even tried what they told me to give it ...
  IT NOT A MEM PROB !
Also I had a prob when i tried to join a mod'ded game and got the "mods failure" dialog box..then I tried to host my own game only to find out I had lost all my weapons !!!!    REINSTALL !!!      hmmmmvery interesting ...
      Also seemed like the network freeze was gone  but it did happen to me once.... NOT TOO BAD..
   BUT ! what  really pisses me off was Im sending in my emails to Macsoft and they come back to me with a stupid reply EVERY TIME !! (3 total)    Ya know telling me how to do a clean install  , trash my preffs , and even to clean my CD  , also to  give rs more mem ,and trying VM
  also to run my G4 with minimum EXTENSIONS(wich I know they dont practice what they preech because what they told me to use  wasnt enough !   and certainly not for multiplayer , wich is what most people play and that is what i was emailing them about !  
  I have tried all this stuff  even before Macsoft  emailed me  and  I told them i had tried everything and they still give me the stupid treatment !!!      I dont know about you but I know Im not the onlyone experiencing these problems....   So why the dumb shit !!  I gave them my list of bugs(  bugs are probly the result of "spaghetti code" and they can't tell me   "   yes we have acknowleged that problem...."  just telling me dumb shit !!   Well I really hope they fix these probs because They acted like if we dont Email them the game will be that way  in the finall patch  ????????????
