The game hinges on the emotional impact they're trying to create: the you're-really-there-and-DAMN-does-it-suck-to-be-there ambience. Apparently it's an effective motif for the first part of the game, but the set pieces they use (ambushes, traps, et al) get to be old hat and lose impact by the end. Sounds like a rental to me.
