After a long chat with Wrath on AIM, (here's the convo), we got in a fight about hardware addresses, he claims he has some "app" to change the hardware address, and then he gave me some definition that basically told himself off, here's the convo:

lol, is that what you think it is wrath, well, i got a new Ethernet card and same address. I got tried a different hard drive and it didn't work. Tell me how that is so.

its not just the ethernet card. it's literally the entire motherboard.

None the less, it is entirely possible to get a new Hardware Address wihtout buying new hardware.

BTW: A hardware address can be changed if you modify the hardware itself, if anyone knows what a firmware update is, thats basically what this app is - it changes the actual hardware.

Oh, yeah, he also cut out parts of the conversation. You'll even notice that one part I say nothing when I actually said something.. I don't have the conversation at my fingertips (its on my PC), but this isn't the complete thing.

BTW: I had no idea this conversation was gonna be posted here until I checked out the forum.. this is the second time Romeo/Juliet has pulled this stunt - posting our conversations on DAMN w/o my notice..

For those of you who don't catch on, MS = multiple sclerosis - the disorder of having multiple personalities, which appears to be what Juliet has..

Apps exist to mask, alter, filter and out right change your MAC address....  hell, you can do it with the program either**** (sorry, if you can't bother to look it up, then you can't be trusted to use it, and not even then for most people.  I just looked it up since my last posting on the subject.)

Peekay, so, let me guess.... you (or, more likely, someone else) have slaved a "clean mac" to log onto GameRanger with a new account (a very easy task to accomplish).  And you further put some nifty little program like timbuktoo on it (think PCAnywhere for you PC useres) so that you can manually operate it from another mac anywhere.  Now, use a program like ICMPlogger to see what ip's you ping.... and then just do a manual join....  Wow.. that was so inventive.  Even get's you past locked games on GR (not if they password the game though, eh?)

Now, throw a couple more twists and turns.... shell accounts, changing IP's, macking the MAC address, etc. et al. and you think you've got it made, eh?  Hell, even if you wrote some scripts instead of stealing a copy of timbuktoo, it's still not that challenging.

So, blackhand, or anyone else taking notes, this is probably a way around Evil's ban's.  Probably only because I'd have to try it before I endorced it.  

Anyway, I do not reccomend doing this.  Let's face it, if you were a dumbass enough to get banned in the first place, you are just going to repeat it.  Let's see... an easy way for EVIL to stop you.... remove the ping function from GR..... that would suck for all of us, but I'm pretty sure it's an easy way to foil your little "script program".  Given time, and EVIL's experience, I'm sure he could come up with more creative ways to stop it (even if for some reason that eliminating the ping wouldn't work, everything can be stopped, it's just a matter of time).

So, if you have been banned.. try to appologize, there's a thought!  Say you are a real dumbass, and really sorry.  Maybe he will have pity on you and let you back in... some people like HONESTY.  

Mauti, please feel free to edit out anything in this message that you feel is saying too much.  I just hate the "I'm smarter then you" attitude coming from some dumbasses out there.

One thought for those wishing to keep Peekay out of their games.

Since Peekay is supposedly looking at your IP address from you ping, you might want to try to disable you ping.... I know that many firewalls allow you to do this (net barrier has this option for example).  It simply tells your computer to not answer the ping.  Without this, Peekay can't manually join your games.  The downside, is nobody will see your ping speed on GR.

Without knowing how Peekay is doing what he is doing (assuming that he is), this is just a guess... but probably a good one.  Keep it in mind.

Another sure fire way, but also an inconvienence, is to password protect the GAME from the SERVER, not in GR, but on the SERVER.  Don't use SECRET..... but use a password.  And don't post it in the title.  This will keep even manual joiners out... but anyone you want in has to know the password.  Like I said, an inconvienence, but then, so is having Peekay in your games.

I think i will re-install NetBarrier! i use Norton, but i dont think that i can do that with it... maybe i can... help Grif?

Norton was "Doorstop", and you could not do it under Doorstop, unless Norton changed it (as far as I know).  Anyone else know the answer to this?

i know; i had doorstop befor norton took over it. its not as good, but i like it cuz i can limit certian ports... maybe i can do this w/ NetBarrier?

I can't remember... I haven't used NetBarrier in a couple of versions.  I'm using a hardware firewall and I'm trying out a different software firewall for the machine's that are in the DMZ (if you don't have a router, you don't need to worry about what a DMZ is)  One thing's for sure.. I get a lot of port scans here... and a few people have been exploring my machine quite a bit lately.... and no, I doubt it's Peekay.... this has been going on for a while, and I doubt it's him... although it get's a lot more active in the higher ports when I'm on GR.... food for thought.  then again... could just be some guys seeing if I'm running my Hotline Server still... you never know.

If I can dig up a copy of NetBarrier or Norton around here, I'll load them and let you know... but it's not hight on my todo list.....

all i can say is that what SWAT_Grifter said is not true. about timbuktu and controlling the screen. anyone can get back into gr without a hardware change or spoofer or none of that shit. me and peekey found out how to do it and we are not going to tell anyone. it was kind of hard to figur out be all i can say is that i got a little help from freaky from freaky.staticusers.net if anyone has ever been there. we are pritty good friends and he just told me a way that he fould out and it works so even if you go asking him how, i know that he wont talk to you. if you email him, he will be like Evill and just toss your email and never read it(although he might)

I'm not promoting Warez at all....  I specifically said that I do not recommend this.....

As for not using timbuktoo.... matters not.  You can use appletalk and applescript to control other Macs (not as clean or easy, but it can be done)..... Pearl, etc (lots of hacking scripts and apps out there to clone).

As for the other points... if you guys are looking up the IP's of otherplayers to manually join their games (which is what it sounds like) then the stuff I wrote will stop you.  Password protecting the games (again, not the server) will definately stop you.

Grif ment if he can FIND HIS COPY! being he is a professinal techy, i wouldnt put it past him to have a copy of almost every firewall out there! lol! and Grif, Juliet isn't smarter to hack YOU! lol!! and whats the diffrent port thing mean? the high vs low? and what is port 49152 and 427? it messes up my connection when i shut certian ports off... can u tell me the DNS ports??

Just for enlightenment, on the subject of warez and my loading software.....

Yes, I own copies of many different firewalls.  Yes, I have demo software for many more (perfectly allright), and yes, I even have copies of programs that I shouldn't  because I didn't pay for them.  (I have played on both sides of the fence, have run my own warez BBS on fidonet (pre Hotline for you youngsters) and done lot's of things that I shouldn't have (including still have access to servers at all Big 3 automakers, etc...).  I'm not an innocent.  Never claimed to be.  Will never claim to be.  I just hate stupid people.  People that want to feel important, because they aren't... people that learn a trick to crash someone elses computer just to feel big, and people that then lie about doing these things.

I have my own code of conduct that I follow... If I like software, I buy it (even if I have a copy that I didn't pay for)... this supports the company's who make products I like... good for everyone that way.  I don't bother making shit up.... I don't need to, and I don't need to tell stories to impress the kiddies out there.  

I have never, ever said that I am better then anyone.  I have never said I'm a better programer then anyone, and I have never claimed to be big shit... I never will.  

Two things, I'm smart enough to know and admit what I don't know (which is a hell of a lot), and I do know that the only hackers that ever really brag about what they have done, are always the ones that get caught, because they are STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

1) You have a footprint there, if you didn't, you couldn't see any information.... ?I don't care HOW you DESGUISE this footprint, it's there.... you have to connect to the GR servers, however carefully (no matter how many loops and holes and tricks you use) you leave a trail..... it's the basis for communications... the information that you are getting back has to KNOW how to get to YOUR COMPUTER..... ?if someone can intercept the right packets, all they have to do is follow the trail. ?Now, let me be perfectly clear, this may not be easy at all, it could be 100's of hours of work, but as long as you are connecting, it can be done. ?There is no such thing as invisible, just very hard to see....

2) If you think that Evil hasn't read any of this board and isn't aware that you (and others) are doing this, you really are the king of dumbasses. ?So, what makes you think he isn't looking? ?(ok, given that he's busy TODAY... but that doesn't mean someone isn't doing it for him). ?The question is, how much did you boys piss him off before, and how high is it on his priority list to stop you.
