John Woo is a specialist in action movies: You like his style or you dont. Anyway, the release date is in 2006, we got some time ahead !

Franky, other then Hunt for Red October I've always been bored of the Tom Clancy movies.

Having John Woo involved is interesting I have to say.

The Hunt for Red October was good, Patriot Games was OK, Clear and Present Danger was good, Sum of All Fears is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I'd look forward to it more if it weren't being directed by John Woo. I'm yet to see one of his movies that I've liked.

Perhaps this movie will do well, and we will see the Clancy write R6 2!

while rainbow six did spawn a line of sweet games, it was definatly one of clancys worst books. i cant say it wont make a cool movie though...

What'd you have against the book? My opinion, the only two that are better are Without Remorse and Clear & Present Danger.

OMFG... Typhy is so right...  you want action directed well? Get frankenheimer )he's dead tho)  or Micheal Mann (have you seen his action scenes? HEAT comes to mind easily )  How about David fincher (fighT Club)

there are so many possiblilities.... Woo is a hack... he's never made anything good in English... all his films that are even remotely watchable are hong kong action flicks... this is gonna blow... do I need to remind everyone of Capt. Correlli's Mandolin?? WTF is with you Woo lovers?? UGH! Get a life... better yet steal someone elses!

I just think the book read like a bad summer blockbuster(which, I guess they are making it into). The plot wasn't plausible enough to sustain any sort of suspense, and I dont think I connected with the characters as well as I did in his other books. The only good part of the book is how jack ryan is president, which is quite cool.

now i cant remember ryan really is pres is rainbow six. i know he is in the bear and the dragon(which is one of my favorites) but i cant remember about r6

Nah, R6 sucked nuts. The only thing I liked about it was the descriptions of the training and operations (I read it after I'd already been playing RS for a year or two). The plot, the characters, and all the other 2D stuff about the book can blow me.

I thought Face/Off was good.  But that was a while ago, the genre has changed.

I agree with you, not only is Michael Mann one of the best action directors out there, he's one of the best directors (period)...which is why he'd probably NEVER be involved in a Tom Clancy movie.

Fincher is cool as well, Alien3 (the best Alien movie IMHO).....Seven and Fight Club are not only top-notch action, but he sets unparrelled moods...

Once again, not exactly up the TC alley.

Hey guys,

Your friendly Hollywood insider here. I just checked my magical Hollywood info website and here's what it says (and what is has said since 2002, btw -- only Woo is new).

The entry was created Aug 2000, last updated Jun 2004.

So they're still working on this sucker.

At least five writers have worked on it. I will not name them.

The producer is Michael Ovitz, which might suggest to you why this movie has taken so long to get going.

John Woo is the director.

People who have been mentioned for roles are Matt Damon as John Clark or William DaFoe as John Clark.

Paramount is the studio, The Firm and Artist's Production Group are producing.

Here's the logline: it sounds different to me than what I remember the book being ...

"Ex-Navy SEAL John Clark leads an elite squad of American and European operatives to fight international terrorism. Code-named "Rainbow," the force defuses three terrorist attempts before old Cold War adversaries raise their suspicions."

Matt Damon as John Clark

Matt Damon is far to young to be Clark in Rainbow Six, perhaps in Without Remose.

William DaFoe did a good job as Clark in Clear and Present Danger - same age frame in Rainbow Six.

That shit'll be hot...

Mostly about Jack Ryan's family.

Ryan kills two IRA terrorists in a shoot out in London, one of the surviving terrorists escapes from a prision transport, and attempts to kill Ryan's family.

Indiana Jones 4 is not on the way.

Both Speilberg and Ford loved it. Lucas decided the latest script wasn't good enough. DOA.

but willem dafoe is just so fucking creepy. I always picture Mr. Clark as more of a big all american type. And while harrison ford was good as jack ryan, he never really seemed to fit the part. he's too soft or something.

This movie is old news...a while back, Clancy blew a gasket when they decided to not make the terrorists arab because of sensitivites following 9/11. The movie will probably suck, most likely because John Woo is directing it - his last semi-decent movie was 7 years ago when he made Face/Off...everything since then has had suck written all over it.

Title: Re:Rainbow 6: The Movie
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on July 22, 2004, 04:10:23 pm
Well, yea. Couldn't Clancy just make them stop work on the movie if he's too pissed about things.

Title: Re:Rainbow 6: The Movie
Post by: spike on July 22, 2004, 04:15:45 pm
cause he probably sold the rights and so doesnt have any control over it anymore.

Well maybe this will encourage him to write Rainbow Six 2 to clear his name.

NO way.. which is why I started this whole convo with "he should stick to Hong Kong films"   hehe...  hard Boiled is one way cool film, but woo can't make those anymore... jsut like Nick Cage doesn't make any more "raising Arizona's"

his last semi-decent movie was 7 years ago when he made Face/Off

was Broken Arrow before or after face off? because i thought that movie was cool as hell. oh by the way, for anyone who likes babys out the window in film, i saw a commercial for a michael jackson biography on tv, and they have some guy dressed up like him with the fake nose and everything. needless to say, when i saw it i grabbed a tub of vaseline and ran out of the room.

hehehe my new blockbuster:

Quote
Terrorists devise a scheme to take over a generic industrial compound for ransom under the watchful eye of Afghani rebels.  The plot twists when the Terrorists hijack a shipment of nuclear warheads even after their demands are met, unless a turncoat naval officer can gain the courage to do the right thing and stop the Terrorists once and for all.  The movie ends with a mildly comical and/or ironic scene in which the Terrorists blow up or go to prison.  Another satisfying tale of political intrigue and personal redemption closes, and we all walk away from this movie a little wiser.

What'd you have against the book? My opinion, the only two that are better are Without Remorse and Clear & Present Danger.
Dude yes typhy... Clear & Present Danger is a fucking awesome book...

Without Remorse is a really good book, but killing some pimp and saving a chick (if you haven't read the book and plan to, disregard that statement) isn't as exciting to me as some of the other things Clancy has written about.  I might just be shallow and neive.

Rainbow Six is also a little different from some of Clancy's other books, in that there is a lot more action and a lot less technical jibber jabber.  The plot isn't too believable either, and that is what I think some people don't like about it.  I still love the book though, and can't wait for the movie, even it its gonna suck.

If anyone else is a Clancy fan, try reading The Bear and the Dragon.  That is another great one in my opinion, although it takes a little while to get into.
