summary:

? improved battery-performance, now up to 12 hours playing time possible
? playlists can be processed also on the way now
? price reduction of up to 100 dollar per model
? no entrance model with 15 GB anymore, called are only 20 and 40 GB
? slightly changed operation, click-wheel like iPod mini

altogether it's a rather quiet upgrade as a really large revision. i personally was waiting for being able to process playlists on the way without having to use my mac for that.

Did you guys just see the article on MacMinute? They showed some Apple corporate dude saying they won't have 60 GB iPods anytime soon. Maybe they'll release it at MacWorld SF along with Gen 2 iPod minis.

They say that all the time crypt. They will be out in late august. Just the supply was too low to announce them.

For the extra storage I bet a lot would spend $250-300 USD ?200-250 EUR or so on it.

I have a feeling Apple will release the new features for G3 iPods once the G4 sales start settling down to a normal rate.

It's 3G and 4G crypt never put the G first, sounds too...too....tooooo processor like. Hurrah for myst as he buys his 40GB 4G iPod.

Bah, mine is the 1G 5GB iPod.  I can't decide if I should spend $100 less on the 40GB for 5GB of music and the rest to back up important files, OR if I should wait for the 60GB for $500 to put 5GB of music on it with a entire ghost image of my Hard Drive.

Well viper, the iPod 60GB might even be a AV, if your undecided wait.

Just picked up the 20GB one off of the Apple site for $299, can't wait for it to arrive  :D

Very nice... you filled it up Assassin? Just got some new headphones for my pod - those nice clippy round your ear jobbies... one of the buds of my apple ones blew after about 2 months and the replacments are knackered now... surprisingly these have better base which im not complaining about :)  

ps... police apprently suggest that you change the headphones as the apple white ones are so distinctive muggers etc are carfully singling them out!... bastards but at least they have good taste eh ;)

Oh crikey it was not long after they released them i think... hmm just after i got back from Saville last year i think, couldn't help but buy the mother of all ipods they call the 40GB :D  ... filled it almost to the brim now :)

I know... to be honest at the end of the day the great thing about these pods is they do exactly what you want them to do... store volumes of music that you can take anywhere and play anywhere! they look great, they work great, and you can use them like a HD... I think this must be one of the first bits of kit i bought and just felt enirely satisfied that i just didn't mind when it got upgraded (unlike my poor G4!)

They were just released worldwide and haven't even shipped yet. So I decided why do with the bottom of the line, when you can go to the top.

They shit worldwide July 24th. But who knows if that's to be or not. Maybe they'll just give every reseller one.

One of the partners here grabbed a 40 gig a few days before the new one's came out.

He walked right on in and demanded the new one AND a rebate for the difference in price. And they gave him a new 40 and the money.

Sometimes, Apple is a nice company to work with.

Cringe stop copying every lamer on every other forum. The fact is it isn't just firmware it also has to do with the hardware. Get use to your iPod not being as good as the best.

My iPod ships in "1-3 business days" and will take another 5 business days to be delivered. Not bad considering that it took my bro nearly a month to get his mini - with Apple being so backordered that it was shipping them directly to customers from Shanghai, China.
