Title: addon for operation flashpoint.....
Post by: bugkill on March 13, 2004, 04:01:29 pm
coco,

just wanted everyone to know that i've been trying to find modders for making a "no easy day" type of mod for operation flashpoint. it will not be called "no easy day" or anything like, just the concept. so, if you play operation flashpoint keep an eye for this one day. take care guys!

Hahaha, damn Texans! ;D
I hear you can do more in that game as far as vehicles and scripting, but I've never played it.

I actually just started playing it again. Halo wasn't doing it for me, and KOTOR sucks me in and doesn't let me out  ;D
I'm running Resistance (v 1.96), but am in the middle of the Red Hammer campaign from the gold edition. I'm about to defend a town from an American armored assault. I really like being able to change weapons in game. To say nothing of comandeering vehicles.

Modding is a bit more involved than with GR. But there are a lot of good vehicles out there. But modding means mission editing, at least its easier than IGOR.
The one thing I really love about OFP is its flexibility. You can really do a ton of stuff with it.
But there is a huge learning curve.
As I'm just getting back into the OFP scene I've found people are making add-on maps and much better vehicles.

You can script a ton, airborne drops, amphibous landings, helicopter assaults, air and naval combat, you name it. Now there is motorcycle and pistol support. All types of civie vehicles, buses, cars, tractors, dirt-bikes, light aircraft.

The big draw backs are lower quality graphics than GR, although modders are fixing this.
More involved modding, you can't just add a weapon, and have it in the campaign.
Limited saves on long duration missions (20 minutes plus)
And scripting glitches, although not as big a problem as when the game first came out.

A good site is

Ok, these sites might help you out then

http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/previews/flashpoint/helo/index.shtml
http://www.theavonlady.org/theofpfaq/
And don't forget, OFP is a game where you can eject, and still keep playing! Just make sure you're high enough for the chute to deploy.

You have to get back in. I forgot how much fun it is breaking into a depot, stealing a T-72 and going to town with it!

You know, now that they have The BOMB, and an Aston Martin Vanquish modded, it'd be real cool to make a James Bond mission. Hey they even have Little Nellie and the mini-jet Roger Moore flew!

What modding doesn't take up all your time?!  ;D

Now that they're modding improved infantry animations, and Chain of Command is coming out with an Artillery Support Mod, I may actually have to try to figure out how to make missions.
The possibilities are starting to look up.

Well ogre if you do start making missions with add-ons like BAS, Earl/Suchey's Marines and others let me know. That's the thing I can't stand about Flashpoint. You have to script missions around the units/weapons/vehicles.

Now time to start Hitman Contracts.....    ;D

I uninstalled hitman contracts, got bored with it. I do play Splinter Cell alot

I just finished the second Hitman. I liked it and Contracts seems even better. I never could get into Splinter Cell, all that sneaking, just ain't my style.

Yeah, either that, or make custom PBO's combining what you need.
That's one thing I hope they fix for OFP 2. But at least for now there are guys working on improving what we've got, like this guy creating new infantry animations

Haven't tried this mod. 300+ MB! Whoa!
I don't see why you couldn't have SP missions with this mod.

Title: Re:addon for operation flashpoint.....
Post by: Suicide_Commando on June 13, 2004, 01:04:09 am
I guess it put a lot of add-ons together in one package and adds a lot of effects. I might try downl;oading it, take quite awhile though. It got a good review from a guy on @War's sight. I'd kinda like to play the campaigns through again with this on.

I hope that it'll work with Cribban's upcoming animation mod

Well, if you don't mind, tell me how it is after you've tried it. I'm on a 56K so it'll be awhile before I can myself. Also the thing is still being updated, or so I read at least. Still it looks promising.

Ogre, did you try that Y2K3 mod? I'm gettin a couple errors. One regarding the .bin file and an M240 ammo error and one concerning the cbt_misc.pbo and a corrupt .p3d. I'm only patched to 1.91, not sure if that's part of the problem. Cool addon comp from what I've played so far though. I just want it to run stable without these error messages popping up.

Title: Re:addon for operation flashpoint.....
Post by: ogre_h on June 18, 2004, 03:30:36 am
Haven't had the chance yet. I'm running 1.96 though.
Hopefully I'll get a chance this weekend. There's alot to catch up on.

Title: Re:addon for operation flashpoint.....
Post by: Suicide_Commando on June 18, 2004, 04:48:39 am
Cool, let me know then if it runs ok for you, please. This will certainly breathe new life into Flashpoint for me if I could get it to run right.

Part of the problem is the 300+ meg installer I have cuts out towards then end so I'm not sure if there's some addons missing or not. I don't wanna try re-downloading again as it took me 20+ hours to get it in the first place.

You gotta get DSL or cable man.

I heard FDF's new mod is over 400MB!

DSL or Cable ain't available in my area unforetunately or I would have had it eons ago. Been readin on the forums about the mod, I guess they're just common bugs with the release that I've expierienced so far so I should have em fixed soon, hopefully.

Mac - If you do you migt wanna try one of these mods. Big downloads but replaces all the units with better ones. Both are still works in progress. You'll need the Resistance add-on too.

Y2K3
http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?s=4fbdbb1d1c383036ca91da11e858b346;act=ST;f=4;t=38303

EECP

Ogre - My comp can't even handle ECP effects that well let alone those most likely. Looks great though.

Two new mods for OFP
Y2K3 - total OFP Conversion and Flash FX 1.2
http://ofp.gamezone.cz/index.php?sekce=news

Flash is just over a meg:
Quote
*The default explosion has been changed, you'll notice it.
* Tanks and jeeps have a new burn and smoke effect. (scripted)
* Rotorwash for all choppers. This is my own custom version of the default BAS-Studios version. (scripted)
* All default weapons have smoke effects when fired. Also grenade-launchers. (scripted)
* A lot of the default effects have been modified. These include blood, tank barrel fire and smoke, and the water-splash generated by bullets.
* Persistant metallic debris from tanks and other vehicles when hit or destroyed by rocket-launchers or any form of grenades.
* Burn effect for planes going down.(One when in air, and one when at ground, crashed.) , (scripted)
* Rocket-launchers have backblast. (scripted)
* Bullet cartridges from rifles stay on the ground for some time after being shot off.
* All default rockets and missiles have extra flame effects. (scripted)
* Fuel-stations and fuel-trucks explode much more realisticly when destroyed.
* Flaming debris when aircraft are destroyed. (scripted)
* Water is tossed up into the air when a boat is destroyed. (scripted)
* Exhaust and damage script from BAS-Studios added.
* Choppers now burn and produce smoke when destroyed.
* RPGS, LAWS, and AA launchers now have extra flame effects.

Y2K3 is close to 400mb and slaps together alot of units from popular modders

SC, Geforce 4 MX440, came with the system.
Got the 9600Xt for $150 at NewEgg. They have really good prices. Its even better when the boss pays. ;D There was no way he'd shell for a 9800. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-335&depa=0
They're supposed to be easily overclocked, and stable when OC'ed.

What's nice is if you get a DVI to VGA adapter (which I just happen to have ;D), you can have dual monitors! Which I don't happen to have at home  >:(
I'm hoping they arrive tomorrow.

By-the-by NewEgg also has the MS Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 for $23. Its not the wireless one, but man its sweet. Lighter and smoother than my IE 3.0 and has that sideways scroll. I really recommend it!
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=26-105-142&depa=0
Its an OEM, but you just DL the drivers from MS and you're good to go. Actually it worked even without the drivers.

Combat has updated its M2's and M113's and has released its Hummers, M901 ITOW launcher and M577 Command Track.

For Y2k3 mod users, the Combat Components used by Y2K3 can be upgraded with the new units with no problems.

Got em all for the Y2K3 mod. Real nice models those, the Combat team has talent.

Title: Re:addon for operation flashpoint.....
Post by: ogre_h on October 04, 2004, 09:28:54 pm
I don't think the Hummers will show up in Y2k3 unless you edit it. I think Pappy used Fischkopf's Hummers.
I set up all the CBT stuff in its own folder, along with every other major mod team, and then I put it in the icon's command line after Y2k3. That way they all show up in the editor. Oh, and I did replace the CBT stuff in Y2k3 as well.
Now if I can only learn how to make missions.
Have you used DXDLL? Now that I've got a vid card that can actually handle it, its not bad.

Pappy released an optional patch for the Hummers yesterday. Haven't tried dxdll yet. Just got a used GeForce 5?00 from a friend. Haven't put it in yet but it should run the configs just fine.

I really love the mod. It's just a small patch to overwrite the humr.pbo, then you need the Combat dl of course. I wish the damn EECP project would get updated though to fix that damned saved game bug.

Title: Re:addon for operation flashpoint.....
Post by: ogre_h on October 05, 2004, 06:41:42 pm
I've noticed a lot of these OFP modders release stuff and then walk away and you never hear from them again or they drop it and do something else. Like the DXDLL mod is a little unstable, but as far as I know they've moved on to other things. I know compared to GR there's a ton more variables to account for, but it seems like some guys just want to get something out.

Since OFP2 is not coming til 2006, do you think BIS will release anything to keep interest alive?

I doubt it. Been a long time since any expansions or new patches for that matter have been released.
