Title: mary jane rottencrotch
Post by: jn.blackhand on December 10, 2001, 09:22:33 pm
It?s been a long time coming. The R6 community has gone to complete shit. Maybe I should say has been complete shit. It started, for myself at least, a couple months ago. Rogue Spear came out, Romulus appeared, newbies crawled out from under their piles of sport illustrated issues. All of the sudden I was having to talk with numbers and abbreviations just to be able to communicate with people. POD collapsed, Jesse disappeared, I got Mac Os X. No more crashing, less and less time spent in Os 9, less time on GR.

I suppose all good things must come to an end, but it sucks none the less. I haven?t really been spending a lot of time here now. I guess you could call this my ?retirement,? but I will always come back here to post and chat with you guys.

It really is too bad Rogue Spear wasn?t all that appealing to most R6 vets. It really is too bad the school year started again and it is too bad newer games came out that were fun. I?m rambling.

Yeah. Well. Whatever. Life isn?t perfect. I hope that some of you guys upgrade and start playing some Os X native games. Grift, send wrath some jumper cables and get his mac functioning at a near 500 mhz rate.

Sigh. Everything has changed. Get AIM. Get Os X. I need some people with half a brain playing Wolfenstein with me. Again, I?m rambling.

In all my time on GR and here at the forum, I?ve learned that there is one constant Electronicjo is and will forever be teh devil.

Adios.

I'd join you playing Wolfenstien (btw, has it been released for Mac yet?) but my new LCD monitor for some reason doesn't let me play either it or R6 as the picture is out of its range (still working on fixing that)  but I'll definately be getting into RtoCW, but it just won't be the same as R6 used to be due to the PC/Mac mix.  Also, I hope to get Halo (also hoping it proves my kind of fun game).  But alas, it looks like I've retired from Rainbow Six, but I'll remain here.

Bondo's X-Mas List
GR for OS X
A new OS X game from redstorm that is like R6 but doesn't crash or suck like RS
A few other games which all of us R6 players can agree to get so we can move our community to them.

We all knew this was coming. since I left, I knew black would have to follow. Of course, after Mort left, I left... janitors of a feather stick together...

I really do wish that RS had caught on with the R6 vets, it really is a good game, it just attracts all sorts of people... lamers and the very opposite of them..

Overclocking isn't a half-bad idea, I just don't have the money to replace this hunk if something goes wrong..

Blackie,
I'll be glad to meet you online for some wolfenstein demo games.  Also, you may or may not be glad to know, Elite Force (Start Trek Doom type game) just came out with an expansion pack that also carbonized the apps in the process (and took it to the same ver as the PC, so the two platforms can paly together).  I've tried it on OS X and it works fine.  Not that as a game it compares to R6/RS, but it is for OS X now, which means it will be getting more of my time in the near future.

As for overclocking Wrath, I'd be glad to.  I didn't fry my motherboard until I took my 350 past 700.  It was running fine at 600 (as anyone that was on my host back in the early days can testify to)  Then a little mishap with the motherboard (but the machine is working once again, just with a new motherboard) got me to upgrade that to a G4 anyway.  Moral of this story Wrath, as long as you don't get TOO greedy, you'll be fine overclocking.  Stick to under double.... heh.  It was a $200 dollar lesson, so pay attention.

So Blackie, I hope to see you online... I just can't stand AIM, so I wont be seeing you there.

Under double, eh? I may take a few EE courses and consider how a 900mhz g4 laptop would be.

Isn't the primary concern with overclocking keeping the temperature on the motherboard cool enough to keep from going poof?  If I'm correct in thinking this, trying to with your laptop would be a little dangerous as it doesn't cool as well.  But if you can invest in a cooling unit of some kind and fit it in, you can overclock to insane amounts.

Blackie, I have been on GR since, oh, summer of 2000... So I'm not really a n00b... Just a dumbass... ;)

Grifter - I kno this will sound like a n00b's question, but as I have never overclocked before... yeah. Can I overclock my iMac? Is it possible? I xspect to be building my AMD PC in early January, so I will no longer need my iMac, and I would like to boost it's speed so that I can still use it (If it survives...)... Are there any good site you would reccomend? Or just get on MaG/AIM and tell me all about it ;). Thank you.

hahahahahahah, fat chance anyone that knows anything and also has AIM does not have Rom blocked.

Rom, read above, Grift hates both those apps you mentioned.

Do you realize how tempted I am to change GRIFT's post to encourage Rom to overclock too much and fry the motherboard, leaving him with only his PC. Oh how glorious would it be.

He can still post from a PC. Damn.

Maybe we can get him to start a hotline server that serves up warez and then get him disconnected from his cable. Bwaha

Please forgive any typos, as I'm still laughing at Ace's last post.

The two major issues with overclocking are overheating and stability.  Yes, turning your chip into a puddle of goo is a possibility.  However, before that happens (unless you overclock a bunch all at once, never a smart thing to do) the chip will be prone to crashing.  Every chip is different.  Some G3 350's can be pushed to 600 and 700, some can't get past 375.

Overclocking an iMac requires 1) a soldering iron. 2) some wire jumpers.  3) a big magnifying glass.  and 4) nerves of steel.  The freaking tiny resistors that you have to bypass on an iMac (I don't even want to think about a Powerbook) are so freaking small, you have about a 75% chance of screwing the motherboard in the process if you aren't used to dealing with such fine (as in freaking tiny, not cool) electronics.  But, since you'll have that PC, give it a try!  Let us know how it goes... instructions can be found at www.xler8yourmac.com (Check that url, I may have it wrong).

kewl. ill look in to it... What do you think that a AMD 1900 XP can get to? We are going to get a water cooler installed in it, so it should be able to handle a lot of heat... (BTW - the 1900 XP runs at like... umm, 1.6GHz, not the advertised 1.9GHz. Thats just the equivalent speed of a P4 (from what I hear)).

Christ, the things already running at 1.6GHz and you want to try to overclock it to a higher speed? ?What is the point. ?There is a limit to how much speed will really be of use until the complexity of software catches up. ?At the moment software isn't designed for more than what is common or at least available, so getting a machine that is freakishly fast isn't really worth it. ?BTW, I'd assume a dual 700 MHz G4 would still be just as good as your PC Rommy.

(To other moderators - Snip moderation and please stop letting everyone know I want Romulus' hot body-Ace)

Come on, at least make mocking a challenge. Now I know how McGwire felt stepping in to face Steve Trachsel.

HEY!   I left first!

You were all following this janitor!  ....of course I would have been POD too if wrath hadn't disrespected me so in the beginning.....

man I'm gonna be sore about that one forever!

Sorry Ace, tired then, exhausted now.  I'll be no challenge at all if I don't stop working 16 hours in a day...

As for that being a stupid thing to do... I know.  Take it up with BEA and their shit product WebLogic.  I'm going to sacrafice a live chicken tomorrow to see if that will keep the bean server from crashing (well, keep it from crashing more then once an hour... what a piece of shit this product is turning out to be).  Sorry, needed to vent somewhere.
