Title: Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 01, 2003, 11:53:35 pm Hi experts,
Since I updated to Panther AND stupidly updated GhR to 1.0.3, which was dumb to do both at the same time, my graphics are scrozzled. From the splash screen onwards, the bottom half of my screen is infinitely duplicated in teeny tiny lines, totally unusable. BTW, GameRanger also updated itself at about the same time. I've tried reinstalling GhR, removing GameRanger, fixing permissions, and messing around with the Monitors control panel. I even reinstalled Ghost Recon from a backup I had that I know worked fine. Nothing fixes it. Any clue what's happening? Is there some config file or something that I can fix or delete? Some hidden Panther graphics setting? I doubt it's my video card, since everything else works fine. Help pleeze! Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 06, 2003, 08:08:35 pm It's a 733Mhz G4 Quicksilver with the standard GeForce2 MX graphics card. Monitor is an no name flatscreen PC monitor. It all worked fine before! I suspect some driver somewhere, although it's weird that it only affects Ghost Recon.
Any thoughts? Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: Jeb on December 06, 2003, 10:30:24 pm i've heard of replacement retail ATI cards having problems, but not nvidias.
You might want to look at www.xlr8yourmac.com and their forums to see if anyone is having similar problems. Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 07, 2003, 10:30:28 pm So now I tried doing a clean install on 10.3.... huge pain in the *ss of course. Didn't help, and it's STILL just GhR that displays wrong. Hmmm.....
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: th.Sentinel on December 08, 2003, 11:43:10 am Have you tried opening the options.xml file and changing the resolution?
Or mb changing some other settings in the options.xml. Mb it helps. Sometimes I get a screwed display when my resolution is wrong. th.Sent Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: Ishmoo on December 09, 2003, 05:05:33 pm What resolution are you running it at? For some reason, before I upgraded Ghost Recon, 1280x854 worked fine, but afterwards the minimap was fubared. Dropping down one notch made it fine. So try fiddling with your resolution settings.
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 15, 2003, 08:39:30 am Thanks for the tips, d00ds, i tried them, but no go. Still the SAME problem. It's weird... it's ONLY Ghost Recon that's doing it and doing a clean install of GhR doesn't fix it. Tried messing with the options.xml file. When I turn <FullScreen> to FALSE, the game looks fine but tiny in the window. Full screen, I still get that duplication at the bottom. Could it be the card???
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: phil on December 17, 2003, 12:21:44 am I am having a similar problem.
GhR worked fine on my TiBook. I bought a 15" Alum Book with Panther installed and although GhR plays ok, the night vision is about 50% of the time screwed up. I see night vision horizontal lines intermixed with this static of black horizontal lines. I can't even figure out how to find my graphics card on this thing - it isn't under 'About this Mac' etc... Thoughts? Phil Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 17, 2003, 01:55:20 am Does anyone know if GhR installs/changes anything outside of its own directory?
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: .vooDoo. on December 19, 2003, 05:08:09 am 10.2.3 came out yesterday. Did that help at all? I read that it had some graphic's card driver updates on it. I hope that it helps ur problem.
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 25, 2003, 06:02:14 am Nope, didn't help... Please, anybody else have an idea? It's weird and annoying.
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: ateazz on December 28, 2003, 07:22:03 pm heya,
try resetting your v-ram in openfirmware. start-up with alt- command - O - F pressed you get an openfirmware screen and type: reset-vram reset-all maybe it works greetzz Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: .vooDoo. on December 28, 2003, 08:16:36 pm you can also try command+option+p+r. Let the cpu chime 3 times then let boot normally.
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 29, 2003, 07:43:54 am Thanks again, gentlemen, I tried resetting vram, my Open Firmware said "reset-vram unknown word". hmmm. reset-all didn't help, neither did resetting the pram. This is really pissing me off!
Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: BFG on December 29, 2003, 02:26:25 pm fng... this might sound stupid but when you put GhR up again were you still using old preference files? If so can i suggest deleting GhR completly (all preference files and settings) and reinstalling from scratch.
good luck! Title: Re:Panther graphics problem Post by: fng on December 29, 2003, 06:48:35 pm Thanks, but in fact I already did that - total clean install of GhR from original CD. I even went so far as to do a clean install of Panther, thinking that a video driver might have been messed up, no help.
I also edited/deleted/remade options.xml and the ghostrecon.plist file in my ~/Library/Preferences folder, no help. It is very weird... Any other suggestions? Please!?! |
