GO BRAVES! :o If by "in the end," you mean the World Series, both the Marlins and Braves are in the NL. There is the possibility that they could play each other in the NLCS. Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: the oNe on October 03, 2003, 05:08:00 am Red Sox Nation is strong at Fenway Park Ass, they will rock the Oakland A's when they come...hopefully

ALCS: Red Sox over Twins in 5. World Series: Cubs over Red Sox in 7. I see somebody doesn't think the world will continue to exist past the month of October... Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Supernatural Pie on October 03, 2003, 10:45:18 pm NLDS:
Braves over Cubs in 5 Why Braves: Dominating offense. Sosa is only one guy. If Hampton can beat Zambrano, Maddux can beat Prior, though it will certainly be my favorite game of the series to watch. Lopez needs to step up and knock a few homers. Also, both teams need to start taking advantage of rallies. I can't remember how many times no one scored with the bases loaded in the first two games. Ramirez is a damn good rookie pitcher, and then it's back to Ortiz who won't lose twice in a row. Finally, the best offense in the National League has a hell of a lot of post season experience, something the Cubs are... well... slightly lacking. Series tied 1-1 Braves in 5. Marlins over Giants in 5 Why Marlins: Marlins have had a great year, especially considering they are under new management. They've been smart about not letting Bonds having too many chances to make things happen, and Lowell is back. Finally, let's face it. If Ponson can't get a win for the Giants, you know they're in trouble. Series tied 1-1. Marlins in 5. ALDS: A's over Red Sox in 4 Why A's: While I myself am a Red Sox fan (second to the Braves) I just don't think that they can take down the pitching staff of the A's. Even with Mulder out, the Sox still have to go through Hudson, Zito, and Lilly. They've already lost to two of them, and Pedro took one of those losses. It's going to be hard for the Sox to come back from this bad start, but I don't see how the best offense in the American League cannot win any games. So I'm giving them one. A's up 2-0 in series. A's in 4. Yankees over Twins in 5 Why Yankees: You know Clemens is going to win, so there's one more for the Yankees right there. However, the next few games are going to be in the dome, and nobody likes turf, but the Twins have the experience. That is a big factor for me. There are going to be some fast grounders in the infield, and Soriano looks like a horse... Uh, I mean, hasn't been at the top of his game in the first couple games. In the end though, Yankees are just clutch. If it's the ninth inning and you're playing against the Yankees, be afraid. Be very afraid. Series tied 1-1. Yankees in 5. NLCS: Braves over Marlins in 7 ALCS: A's over Yankees in 7 World Series: Braves over A's in 7 (NLCS, ALCS, WS subject to change based on NLDS and ALDS results) Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Nail.Im.Ixam on October 04, 2003, 06:00:36 am It's all about the muthafuckin' A's. They're for real this year, and maybe they'll actually make something of it for once.

however, if by some strange fluke the a's beat them, i cant say I would begrudge them as I would the yanks. the a's have a tiny pay roll and deserve to win Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Supernatural Pie on October 04, 2003, 04:01:12 pm Because American's, arrogant as we are, naturally assume ourselves to be the best in the world?
Maybe it's because we have 2 canadian teams. (Nice move MLB! Very slick... good loophole...) Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: the oNe on October 04, 2003, 04:20:23 pm Well, maybe it's called the World Series, is because we popularized baseball in America.

Yankees in 6 (against my will) Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: the oNe on October 05, 2003, 03:24:42 am It's called the world series because we have baseball players from America, Canada, Carribean, Europe, and Asia. ;)
Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Typhy on October 05, 2003, 05:21:53 am Fuck yeah!
3-1, fuck yes! So far I'm 1-0 ( off the Marlins series ), back to Atlanta for game 5 tomorrow, c'mon Cubs. Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Supernatural Pie on October 05, 2003, 05:44:27 am So far all of my predictions (except Marlins in 5, not 4, but that we because I thought the series were tied 1-1 at that point) have been right.
Clemens won his game and the yankees are going down in 5. Red Sox won one game and are going to lose in game 4 (sorry Sox). Braves won and are going to win game 5 (God lets hope so...) Marlins came, saw, and kicked ass. Standing O' to the Marlins. Come on Braves!! Hampton, you can do it. Die, Wood. Die. Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Typhy on October 05, 2003, 10:12:17 pm Yet again "fuck yeah"!
5-4, Sox win. Tomorrow, back to Oakland, but with Pedro - let's go Sox! Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: the oNe on October 05, 2003, 10:54:05 pm To everyone who said the Boston Red Sox would fall to the Oakland Athletics in four games: "Pwned" .
Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Supernatural Pie on October 06, 2003, 06:55:21 am Braves: What a disappointment. Oh well, hell of a year, guys. Be proud.
Sox: I watched the 8th and 9th innings of that game. David Ortiz is now a god among men in Boston. Congrats Sox, lets see what happens in game 5. I'm cheerin' for ya. Cubs: You fought hard. You won it. Congratulations. I hate you. I have a thing about hating teams that knock the braves out of the post season. I always hate them for the next season. I've hated the Cardinals, the Giants, the Yankees, and now the Cubs. Marlins: Whoah. Athletics: 8 consecutive games in which you've had a chance to clinch a series and fail to. Make it 9. Yankees: Fuck off. Giants: This was my year to hate you. (See Cubs) Glad you lost. Twins: Leave it to the pros, fellas. I guess we have to count on the A's or Sox to take down the Yankees. You failures. Be ashamed. Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: PsYcO aSsAsSiN on October 06, 2003, 08:12:33 am Red Sox only won that game because Tim Hudson injured himself during warmups before the 2nd inning...Red Sox fans should consider themselves very lucky to be in the position they are in now. As for Ortiz being a "god among men," I must ask you what you are smoking. He is 1-17 in the series, and if anyone on that roster should be called a god among men, it should be Trot Nixon for his walk off dinger in game 3.
Revised predictions following the result of A's/Red Sox tomrrow night. Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Typhy on October 07, 2003, 05:32:55 am I was 3-1, and 2-2 in games.
FUCK YES! God, Dereck Lowe. . . That was fucking fantastic. 4 to fucking 3, Sox. :) :) :) Ok, next round: ALCS: Sox over Yankees in 7. NLCS: Cubs over Marlins in 6. Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Supernatural Pie on October 07, 2003, 05:37:36 am Actually Typhy, I was thinking the exact same things as you.
Sox in 7. Cubs in 6. LOWE IS AMAZING Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: the oNe on October 09, 2003, 01:28:11 am Red Sox over Yankees in 5 games.

Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! Post by: Typhy on October 13, 2003, 09:09:21 am A little question for you all - What do you think of the Pedro vs Zimmer incodent?
Listening to Sporting News Radio, for the first time ever, I turned it off because I was so pissed. I'm tired of hearing "it's totally unaccepetable to throw a 72 year old man to the ground". Personally, I don't give a fuck wether someone's 10, 17, or 95, if they try and throw a punch, I'm going to put their ass on the ground. In actuality, in a fight that size, I won't even know who I'm taking out. People don't generally join in fights with good intentions. Zimmer didn't say sorry because he was ordered to - he said it because he's been around baseball long enough ( 50+ years ) to know that what he did was wrong. Yet, so many people still feel a need to lay all the blame on Pedro. A little history behind Don Zimmer and being hit in the head by pitches: In the early 50s, Zimmer was hit in the head by a pitch that nearly killed him. He was sent to the the hospital, and ended up with massive brain damage, and had to learn to walk again over the course of over a year. He now has a metal plate in his head as a result of this incodent. Hence his reason for throwing a punch at Pedro - it struck to close to home. What do you guys think about this? Btw, great to finally hear Kevin Wheeler on Sporting News Radio - finally someone who has the balls to lay some of the blame on Zimmer. Title: Re:Something different...how about Baseball! I dunno about World Series winner, but back in 97 or 98 the Cuban National Team beat the Orioles in a very rare exhibition. It was 1999, a year in which Baltimore finished 78-84 and fourth in the AL East. The Orioles won 3-2 in Cuba, and then the Cubans won 12-6 in Baltimore. I wouldn't look much into a team of the best players from one of the best baseball playing countries splitting two games with a below average AL team. Anywho...anyone believe in curses now? |
