Title: This sucks
Post by: Maniac on September 26, 2003, 03:18:32 am
Ok, i'm driving home with my brother from school, and the speed limit is 20we are in a school zone. So my brother was going 26, and a cop pulls him over we are sitting there like what the fuck. 10 min later the cop gets out of them car, and comes up says " i see your not in your seatbelts too" after we had took them off when we were waiting for 5 min. Then he gives us a 150 extra ticket plus the speeding ticket for going 6 mph over the speed limit!  >:( cops suck!

So, in about 2 weeks we are going to go, and try to fight the ticket or he is. The cop will most likely show up or make up some lie Screwed both ways. :( I think he was in a bad mood that afternoon cause he didn't get his doughnuts, and he hade to chase a mexican stealing a bike and VCR.

Definately fight it. Around here, the cops have to go through a lot of crap in order to go to the court. If the court isn't in their area, they can't go. Plus, they have to get special permission and all this stuff even if it is in their area. Most of the time the cops won't bother to show up.

For only going 6 over you could argue that a Radar Detector has an accuracy rating of ?5mph.

That happened to my cousin, the cop didn't even show up so he didn't have to pay the ticket. It's worth the time.

viper seems to be the only one a bit over 16 who has posted in this yet. But let me explain something to you all.You sit in a little office with a low level judge and he goes over what happened  on the police report. If by some chance a cop shows up your screwed, but if not you'd probably get off with a differal for the speeding. Chances are you won't get off the seatbelts, but your stupid to get a ticket for something like that. Just realize that the judges who go over these stupid, boring, lifeless cases hate their jobs, and don't want to give themselves anymore work.

Alright we are taking this to court i hope that good for nothing cop doesn't show up so we can get the ticket off. I just got to think up a good arguement. Hmm this shouldn't be too hard.

The +/- 5mph isn't valid anymore as most radar detectors are rather accurate within 1-2mph. The only way you could get off on accountability of the radar detector is if it was re-calibrated more than a year before the incident occured.

As for cops not showing up...you better pray he is on duty or something because cops gets 1.5 pay for court appearances (since it brings more revenue into the city when you pay your fines). If you are going to argue your way out, you better think of a damn good reason because even though judges dont like wasting their time with traffic tickets, since your violation was in a school zone, he might come down hard on you.

As for the seatbelt citation, dont even try to argue that because it will make you look like a liar and make the judge more liable to enforce your speeding ticket.

Suck it up, you were speeding and got caught.  Stop your whining already.  It was a school zone even, one of the places where cops should actually enforce the limits.

Yes I speed, and yes I've gotten tickets (been almost 10 years since my last ticket though).  It's also a long known fact that your speedometer is always off a little on the fast side by 3%-9%, so when your car (or bike) says you are going 200mph, it's more like 185mph.  The industy has done this for decades to keep law suit happy idiots from coming after them for tickets.

I'm not whining it's just that if you got a ticket for somthing that stupid i'm sure you woulnd't be too happy. Lemme guess, you are soo perfect that you wouldnt speed in a school zone, would you? Also i'm shocked i got it because, the cops where i live are usally worring about more important things o well i'll deal with it.

Maniac, a school zone is the one place I make sure I don't speed.  To many little kids that haven't learned to look both ways.

And when I have gotten caught, I just suck it up, say yes sir and no sir, plead guilty and pay the damn fine.  Because I know I'm still ahead of the game, that I regularly hit 100mph OVER the limits up north that I deserve it when I'm caught.  So no, I'm not perfect, but pointing at me about it doesn't change a thing about you in this situation.  Suck it up and pay the fine.

And if you were stupid enough to actually take your seat belts off while the cop had you stopped, you deserve that fine too.

Cops don't suck just because they caught you.

And you were whining (just read your first two posts).
