I got hired as a tech support guy at the main computer desk at University of Iowa and I don't even know very much about computers -- just ask ace how many n00b questions I've asked him.

How long do you think I'll last until they figure out I don't know what I'm doing and fire me?

As a first level tech support guy, you don't really need to know that much about computers. As long as you have good communication skills and are comfortable around computers, you will pick up the technical aspects very quickly. My old boss used to hire a bunch of CS majors for my network tech job, and many couldn't handle it. Not because they didn't have the technical ability, but because they had no customer service skills. Now that I'm doing the hiring, I always remember that people can be taught the technical side much more easily than the customer service side.

While you're working, pm Ace every three seconds with any noob questions you have.

Meh...Depends if you end up getting drunk or stoned before going to work and do something really stupid. If you don't do that you'll probably be able to answer enough of the basic questions to get by.

on the subject of drugs (almost), my friend took these pills today and said he was feeling them right away so i ate some when i got home and an hour later i got nothing. don't eat before you take pills, it doesnt work :(. what a waste. and i have to go to a lecture tonight...looks like ill have to blaze a joint.

Plus, it's Iowa, it's not like they'd find any competent students there to do the job =P

First in the nation in education?. But the comp sci department here does reportedly suck ass. It's my last semester at this dump anyway - I'm transferring to http://www.grinnell.edu  - recently named the best all around school in America by Newsweek.

Although I think we'd be in the running for coldest school some days, your stories about UP are truly unbeatable brain.  8)

UT is the leading university in parties and hot cowchick ass. It leads the nation in ass. I am even willing to bet more so than USC. Yeah you heard me ace, you god damn perfume bleeding umpa lumpa(sp).

as for tasty, i've never been to colorado so i wasn't going to proclaim tech the snowiest school in the country with out knowing what the trends are out there. if i did, bucc would go prove me wrong. and as for northern michigan university(the other big college in the up), they dont count because they actually cancel classes, something tech is rabid about avoiding

How could you people forget about the University of Wisconsin - Madison?  The students there excel at binge drinking and what bits of academia they can remember during the week.  I'm at UW - Stevens Point; middle of the state, froze last night.
