I swore off fast food a long time ago. It's disgusting, unhealthy, and low-class, and fast food companies are among the worst offenders as far as abusing subsistence labor and migrant farm workers. If you want food fast, eat something you bought at a grocery store or patronize a local establishment. My personal favorites are both local, Big Tomato Pizza Slices and Ted's Coney Island.

I try not to eat out ever and when I do I try to go to normal sit-down resturants...but if I absolutely must go to fast food...such as I'm on a road trip and need calories to avoid passing out, I go to Burger King because they have the BK Veggie which is a half decent vegetarian option.  I've probably eaten fast food no more than a dozen times in the past three years though so I think I'm doing alright.

Where the fuck is Hardee's? I know some of you big city folk might never have heard of them, but they got the best goddam burgers I've ever had from a fast-food place. Blows away everybody else, even most sit-down restaurants! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/uzi.gif)

Hardee's! Hardee's! Hardee's!(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/banana.gif)

Hrm, Taco Cabana is a very good place for slightly better than average Mexican food in San Antonio, and um, they offer beer for those who prefer that over tea or soda.  Other than that, I think that I could live for a few months off Quiznos or Jason's Deli.

You gotta love White Castle, just because of the Lubrication factor they bring into it.  If you are going to eat crap food, may as well make sure it's cleaning out your system while you are at it.  They don't call them sliders for nothin'.

That, and you can always point out to that vegan that he's full of shit (and you aren't, in more ways then one) when he tells you that red meat is going to sit in your colon for months.  Hell, nothing will be in your colon within 6 hours of a good sack of the castle.

Sandwiches: Quizno's

Burgers: In-'n'-Out (primarily West Coast, although I saw one in Vegas. The best burgers ever, and I laugh at all you East Coasters who have never heard of it)

Mainstream Burger Joint: Jack in the Box. Controversial choice, no doubt, but getting plenty pretty damn decent (in the case of the tacos, even really good) food for cheap is more appealing to me than spending $6 for a couple of burgers at Wendy's.

Pizza: Papa John's ('course, I'm biased, but it is excellent)

Mountain Dew Outlet: Taco Bell

Most Overpriced Fast Food: Rubio's Baja Grill (but god damn, it's good stuff)

I'll go to any fast food joint that looks alright from the outside and that doesn't stink. Althouh my favourite is HOOTERS because of their dip! ;D

I don't eat at a lot of fast food places though, mostly eat at home (mmm homemade) and at friends places, much cheaper that way and besides eating out isn't really that common in Sweden compared to how it is in the US.

I Pity you fools because the best two aren't even on the list...Carl's Jr. and In'n'Out. Best burgers, hands down.

As for subs, can't beat Quizno's (although they cost a lot more than Subway)

I humbly apologize Bucc, I missed comprehending one word out of your whole post completely and thus made a post that still worked (spinich is crap food in many people's opinion...just for different reasons you know...taste rather than nutrition).  Was there a point to taking this lighthearted thread and acting like an ass?

Well, certainly you can't mean my spinich post...since that clearly was in good humour.  And certainly you can't mean the post I just made since your prior post was clearly not lighthearted.  So, what point of view do you have that says it started with my post?

For me, it'd have to be Subway. I've never eaten at Wendy's before ( no Wendy's in Juneau ).

Not only great tasting, but healthy. ( high priority when your life is soccer )

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: Mr. Lothario on August 20, 2003, 12:43:49 pm
Do you have Quizno's up there, Typhy? If so, have you ever tried it? They do very tasty sandwiches (their chicken sandwiches rock) that they run through an oven for a couple of minutes, making them hot and the bread lightly toasted. It's the total win. If I'm gonna spend $10 on fast food, I'd go for a foot-long Quizno's sandwich instead of a foot-long Subway sandwich any day.

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: kami on August 20, 2003, 12:45:45 pm
Loth, I ate at Quizno's once this summer over there and I loved it, best sandwich I've had, chicken I think it was. They don't even put it in there for a couple of minutes, just like 30 seconds and it comes out just perfect temperature.

Btw Loth, how the fuck do you get that neat little tabspace of yours in all of your god damn posts?

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: The Ghost of Bondo on August 20, 2003, 04:47:44 pm
I prefer to make my own sandwiches (not much these days now that turkey is out of the picture), but back when I had subs I prefered Subway to Quizno's...both were pretty good, and the heated part was really nice for Quizno's...but the bread Q uses is too big and dry typically...hard to swallow.  Really though I liked both so it just depended where the other people wanted to go.  For me Burger King was best for burgers, Wendy's was best for chicken sandwiches.  McDonalds was best for breakfast.  But I say good riddance to it all.

That sucks, Typhy. Hopefully you'll get the chance to try it sometime. Their ingredients are higher-quality than Subway's, too (at least based on the last time I had Subway, which is several years ago now. Hopefully they've improved in the meantime).

Kami, I've actually got access to a special version of the forum that supports tabs. Noob.

Or maybe I just hit the space bar five times? : P

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: |MP|Buccaneer on August 20, 2003, 10:42:27 pm
Well, certainly you can't mean my spinich post...since that clearly was in good humour.

Not to me Bondo, not to me.  About time you learned that putting someone's name on it doesn't make it "clearly in good humor".  Not to everyone.

Loth, I tried Quizno's once here, it sucked.  The ingredients weren't fresh at all, all they had was the oven baking going for them.  I know I have to give it more then one shot, but the first impression wasn't good at all.

BTW, anyone here (probably Tasty) know if Burger King still buys most of it's meat from Brazil?  I remember that being a big reason to boycott BK back when I was in school.  And I've never really gone back.

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: bronto on August 20, 2003, 11:10:28 pm
because you don't like brazil or because meat from brazil is dirty or both?

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: The Ghost of Bondo on August 21, 2003, 12:43:34 am
because you don't like brazil or because meat from brazil is dirty or both?

Because to raise cows in Brazil you have to cut down rain forests...and typically you can only use the spot of land for a year or so because the soil in the rain forests suck...all nutrients get leeched out.

Bucc, I put your name because it was your joke about White Castle that I was referring to, it wasn't a personal complaint against you or anything.  I don't exactly know why you think my statement was critical enough to cause your reaction.  Anyway, can we just take Mauti's advice.  This is too silly a topic to get steamed about.

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: Mr. Lothario on August 21, 2003, 04:27:39 am
I had Quizno's in Vegas once and it was mediocre at best, although whenever I've had it in San Diego, it was spectacular. I doubt there's that much of a variation between stores, so you probably just hit them on a bad day. Hopefully the next time you feel like trying it will lack the suckage quotient.

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: tasty on August 21, 2003, 06:19:32 am
I agree with Loth: Quiznos is very good, if you can afford to pay $7 for fast food.

Also, anyone else tried Jimmie Johns? they are from what I've seen a midwest-east coast chain, mostly geared to college students. they make damn cheap subs though (3.00 flat)

Bucc, either BK stopped using Brazillian meat or everyone forgot about this, more likely the former I would guess. The reason people boycott them today is because they inject their genetically engineered meat with so many hormones.

edit: for all you meatitarians out there in the Midwest, have you tried Culvers? Its a pretty new chain that has swept the area with fattening things like "Butterburgers" and "Triple Thick Shakes". Gotta love something that is so definitively midwestern. Also, I don't think anyone mentioned Sonic here, which is a pretty good chain as well. Has Hardees gone out of business yet? They seem pretty desperate.

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: SK on August 21, 2003, 06:35:25 am
heh, i work at a culvers, butterburgers are no less nutricious than any other burger. We use fresh meat but we lightly toast and butter the bun (hence the butter burger) the triple shick shake is called a Concrete Shake(very l337) but our restraunt is Grade A meet compaired to taco bells grade F, so its very clenely and professional, in a fast food service kinda way ( we call it quickservice) you take your order like any other Fast food place, but than we give you a number, and you have a seat, and we bringe it out to you when its ready, the foods hella good(tasty, i recoment the chicken filet)  hehe

BTW Wendys and white castle pwns for taste

Taco bell pwns for the unhealthy factor =D

Title: Re:Fast Food
Post by: Mr. Lothario on August 21, 2003, 07:05:27 am
Well, the thing is, when I get fast food (except at Jack in the Box), I always spend $7-$10 to get enough food to fill me. At J in the B, it only takes $5 (three Jumbo Jacks w/cheese, and two tacos). So given the choice of spending $10 at Quizno's for an excellent and filling sandwich + a bag of chips and a soda, or spending $10 at Taco Bell for a combo and a couple of Americanized burritos, I know which I'd rather do.

I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for." I'd rather spend a dollar or two more to get food which doesn't make me feel as though my heart (or my colon) is going to go on strike. : D

Post by: |MP|Buccaneer on August 21, 2003, 09:57:23 pm
Culvers hasn't made it this far north yet, but I'll check it out once it does.

Hardees here was bought out years ago by Tim Hortons (yes, the Canadian place).  No burgers, but coffee, doughnuts, sandwiches and soup.  Not a bad palce.

Sonic over charges around here, so I haven't tried one yet.

If I'm actually going to fast food for the taste, it would be A&W.  Rally's had some good burgers when they first opened up, but not anymore.

And for the ultimate in fast food, I don't think we would have survived college if the Hot n Now hadn't opened up by us.  They were a west Michigan chain that has broken out.  29? Hamburgers (the size and quality of McDonalds).  And the Double Olive Burger.  They only had 6 things on their menu total.

My girlfriend is a huge fan of Tim Hortons (no wonder she is only 5'2" with the amount of coffee she drinks)...although I'd say it competes with something like Starbucks more than a "fast food" place (not that you claimed it was fast food, you were just going from the Hardees thing).

I think the Hardees here became Carls' Jr.s

Oh, and I should mention, Wendy's incurred my wrath and forever lack of attendance by removing their excellent salad bar at least locally.

AHh yes bucc that canadian place, TIMMIES.  They are a great donut shop.  They are obviosuly all over here, but if you want quality coffee, Starbucks is far better b/c of the variety there is, but Timmies has the best and the original Iced Cappuccino, no one can touch that!!

My fav fast food place is Mr. Submarine.  They are similar to Subway, but far better, why you ask? Cuz Subway cuts their bread in this fucked up style that all buns should never be cut in, Mr. Sub cuts their bread the way a bun is supposed to be cut.  Also, Mr. Sub has a great variety of choices and you can choose form a healthy sub to a not so healthy sub.

I also prefer BK whopper over say Mickey D's anyday.  Mainly b/c whopper's are flame broiled rather than fried shit.  I always order the samething, whopper with NO mayo.  Mayo is the nastiest shit on the planet, including miracle whip.  Might as well, cut a pound of lard off your stomach and lay it out it in yer burger, ewww makes me wanna hurl!!

Like rapper Rob Base said, "I like the whopper, fuck the big-mac"  ;D
