Actually, America didn't want him out.  There was a big custody issue.  The parent or guardian he was traveling to America with (can't remember who it was) died.  His closest relative living was in Cuba, and wanted him back.  Other, more distant relations here in Florida didn't want to send him back, saying that is was his mother's wish (something like that) that he be allowed to stay in America.  They requested asylum for him.  It went all the way through the courts, and was found that they had to send him back, which pissed off much of the Florida community (since they are made up of many former Cubans that fled, or their families.)  They don't call south Florida "Little Havana" for nothing.

This all goes on because there is still a pissing contest between the USA and Cuba.  Mainly because Castro is still alive.  Once he kicks the bucket, I think we'll see the old Cuba back, where it will be the hottest tourist spot in the area once again.

I read that they already started printing street signs and business signs in English again.  The Cubans want the tourism more then anyone I'm sure.

smoke your such an idiot! he is in cuba now. he's made many public apperances with castro since being sent back to cuba. the deal is cubans who seek political asylum must reach american soil or they are sent back. his mother died while making the trip and he was picked up by some guys fishing. they contacted the coast gaurd for medical assistance, he was bought aboard a coast gaurd cutter (hehe). because he was a child he was released to some relatives in miami. while his father in cuba begged for his return. by law (our law) he was supposed to be returned to cuba and morally it was probably the right to return a little boy to his father. and bucc, little havana is a small neighborhood in miami. not "south florida". i live in miami and the whole incident was funny. the cuban exile community (including the mayor) were makin asses outta themselves. the mayor at the time was being talked about as possibly being al gores running mate. then elian came. funniest shit was when americans kept driving up to city hall and throwing bananas at the door and putting signs up saying "welcome to the banana republic". the cubans are really nice people, but dont ever talk about castro in the presence of one. the very day that major battle was considered over in iraq, the cubans in little havana shut 8th street down yelling " if u invade iraq u must invade cuba and kill castro too"...and they were dead serious about it! if u ever come to miami look for south beach...stay away from little havana.
