Title: What are you looking most forward to? Post by: 0 Kilz:M: on July 04, 2003, 02:33:13 pm With 3 new Mac titles coming this year, which do you think will be the biggest hit with online play?
1. HALO 2. Raven Shield 3. Americas Army Evill said that AA will have to be played online with PC users as well, therefore I am not looking forward to the many hackers and cheats involved, but hopefully he will have RvS and HALO soley for Mac users on GR. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 04, 2003, 03:36:27 pm Mac-only play is not a significant benefit in my book. The skill level of Mac players is lower than that of PC players. I used to play UT and MOH a lot, and was of better-than-average skill in both compared to the PC players I played against. In both, I eventually decided to play in some GR games. In every case, I was sorely disappointed by the total lack of ability in all the players in the GR-hosted games. Mac players are wading in the shallow end of the gene pool of skill, because we don't have large numbers of very skillful players to force us to become better. I'd much rather play a FPS against PC players, whenever that is an option.
Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: tasty on July 04, 2003, 04:00:49 pm Sorry loth, but I can't remember the last time I played a gamespy mohaa game where there wasn't at least one PC fuck cheating. Sometimes I feel like the only person NOT cheating. On GR, cheating is even more obvious and easy to rope in because of the personal atmosphere and peer pressure involved.
Of those games I am looking forward to Halo most, because I have already mastered it on XBoX and hopefully won't have to do much work to pwn on GR. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: Cow on July 04, 2003, 04:04:09 pm so that means AA :), i dont think that GR players are worse its just we dont have enough AZNS playing on MACS. MAC peeps arent that bad, i went from GR R6 to R6 on PC and I was easily one of the better keeping same amount of kills from GR to PC. PC people are human too and the same ratio of Excellent players to decent players is the same.

Hehe, this is where it will get interesting to watch, all of the good Xbox Halo players against each other online. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? In GHR there might be 36 people playing in one game and only 4 or 5 of them are any good. I sometimes play on a great PC clan server i found, simply because there is tons of tough competition. As far Halo or any other game like that (UT2k3, Q3, ect) its not hard to be good at one game and be good at the other almost instantly. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: *DAMN Mauti on July 05, 2003, 06:00:39 pm I'm looking forward to a new G5 so I can play and enjoy all these new games ;D
I'm excited about AA simply because from what I have seen it has a lot of CQC maps that you have to play with the teamwork of GR - that's something I miss a little bit in GR. Raven Shield will also be great - lots of room sweeping. About Halo, the hype disappeared within in the last years. When I started to play R6 we were already talking about Halo and now 3 1/2 years later I'll play it but most of the original multiplayer ideas were removed so I'm not that much excited about it. Bye, Mauti Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: BTs_Mysterio on July 05, 2003, 09:17:43 pm First off, I am very much lookign forward to Raven Shield. Secondly, other games that we might get this year and early next year are:
--UT2k4 (Sort fo a expansion pack of UT2k3 including vehicles and other left out stuff from UT2k3) which reportedly will be out for mac 2 months after PC release --DeusEx 2, though there are no confirmed sources DeusEx 1 made Aspyr so I can see it being ported quickly after PC release --Max Payne 2, kick ass graphics, though it wont be that soon probly in early 04, another revolutionary game --Duke Nukem Forever, currently in porting with no end in sight...probly 6 more months on it...but weeeeeee DUKE! Those are just some of the games we can look forward to, but seeing as we have a gaming thread here let's guess Westlake's code names! Renee (multi-colored text)- Raven Shield Webber- Most likely a spider man game...bah Booty Call- DukeNukem Forever (Westlake might have taken over) Here's the site, code names at bottom:http://www.westlakeinteractive.com/projectstat.html And on one last note, Halo has left prototype and is in First Playable! And that's the end of that chapter! Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 05, 2003, 11:18:55 pm I seriously doubt that any Mac porting house has been engaged on Duke Nukem Forever, seeing as how it's probably not even within a year of coming out, if it ever comes out. It's only been in development for seven years, after all.
Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: Jeb on July 05, 2003, 11:25:27 pm Webber- Most likely a spider man game...bah
Well i'd doubt westlake would be doing that, because the previous spiderman game was based off the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 engine. I also doubt there needs to be an update for that game, my little brother has the gamecube version (which i think is similar to the pc version) and it was nothing special. But if anyone was going to be porting/making it that it would probly be aspyr since they are the ones who deal with the THPS engine based games on Mac and PC these days. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: *DAMN Hazard on July 05, 2003, 11:35:06 pm I am pretty sure that the 3 games named won't require GR. I am looking forward to RvS the most so I can hopefully find some of my old RS friends from PC world. My only concern is that with the internal servers will there be some kind of buddy list. So RvS.
Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: kos.viper on July 06, 2003, 06:48:40 am There is such a lack of skill with mac players... That's only because a PC gamer running a P4 getting 250fps will beat out your G4 any day. Oh and I'm looking forward to AA but Halo more. :) Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: *DAMN Elandrion on July 06, 2003, 03:46:29 pm i'm really looking forward to World of Warcraft. This is going to be the best Fantasy MMORPG ever! I just love the Warcraft universe...
Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: BTs_Mysterio on July 06, 2003, 06:20:54 pm Although most new games won't require a application like GameRanger I think I'll still use GR, for the most part. No offense to the PC users but I just don't see the PC users with the ability to cheat not doing it.
Also we have our community too. Although a cross platform community seems cool and all, but I can't see myself opening RavenShield merely to go in a chat the boredom away. And we will all get ripped off by UT2k4 if you have UT2k3. Unless they don't package 2k3 with it. They could have just called UT2k4 a expansion pack. Would prevent alot of pissed off people int he future. But hey you ge t ashit load more fo weapons, vehicles, and tons more maps...wooot. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Oh and I'm looking forward to AA but Halo more. :) I call bull. I can barely pull 15-20 fps on GhR normally, and I'll still own players who have higher framerates. It makes a difference, but not a drastic one. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: cookie on July 06, 2003, 09:47:15 pm actually, i think it's unfair of loth to generalize like that, despite the practicticality of his claim. it makes perfect sense, but for some reason, it just isn't true.
sure, PC players have an advantage with a larger gaming environment, the option of cheating, and video cards that are (probably) better, but mac player skills still typically equal that of the PC players i've gamed with. i can't really explain this, but i do go to an all PC internet cafe about 3 times a week to play UT, GhR, and CS on a lan and i haven't noticed any significant difference in player skills. while there are a few REALLY good players, the majority are average or less... just like the GR environment. it's just a matter of ratio. perhaps being restricted is helping macintosh gamers though, kind of like training under resistance. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: bronto on July 06, 2003, 11:11:28 pm All i know is that im a pc player and i suck...probably as hard as you all. but what i really want to say is that there is no fine line between players skills when it comes to platforms. i think it all depends on the player, weather or not they use their machine to their advantage, because if both macs and pcs meet the requirements to play these games, then you have no reason to believe that players on other systems are slamming you because they get higher framerates; chances are, they have the same framerate as you. I'll leave framerate as an exception to people who can only run the game at less then 30-35 fps. 30 fps is the speed that you watch videos on, which is good enough to capture high motion smoothly. just stop complaining about your fucking systems and get better, and if your system is sucky, dont fucking leave it and just use "oh he owned me with his framerate" as an excuse, because you can always go out, work and get a better computer.
Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 07, 2003, 12:04:13 am Orders of magnitude more players means greater numbers of people at the top of the bell curve. Thus, the average PC players are forced to compete against the very skillful, and so the average players become more skillful. All I know for sure is, I'd much rather play a non-team-based FPS against PC players and earn my standing than against Mac players and be #1 by a disappointingly huge margin in almost every round.
Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: *DAMN Silent Killer on July 07, 2003, 07:02:25 pm I was playing on my freinds PC, and he has starwars galaxies, and its a very indepth and cool MMORPG, its cool, but does any1 know if it will be ported to mac, i know lucas arts ports alot of there games(or atleaste they did with the old ones ex. tie fighter, x-wing) but im not sure
any 1? -*DAMN SK Title: Raven Shield is going to be the game to have! Post by: AK_Rap1d on July 07, 2003, 09:45:19 pm Well I'm looking foward to RvS! I played it last year at the E3, and it was awesome! (Some might remember my post about it ;) ) I think it is easier to find skilled players in the PC world, because of both the cheaper computers, and more available games. With both of those options, it is more likely to find more gamers, equalling out to higher chances of one of them being a more skilled one. Us Mac users, use our computers for design most of the time. Whether we're designing logos, or movie layouts, we're on our Macs designing for the most part, not gaming. Being that I grew up playing Pong and Pac-Man (not to forget Moon Patrol ;D ), I had to check out what gaming was all about in the year 2000, and it was then that I ran into RS. I still love RS a lot, even though there are not more available Battle Leagues to join, but the game itself rocks. It's always fun to log onto GR, and join a game and kill random people. Also, it's fun when the game average is 2 minutes. :) That makes for fun gaming. I found myself getting bored in GhR, simply because of the larger maps. If you're into hide and go seek, and got lots of time, GhR rocks. I know, I've played it plenty and know it's fun when you got time for it. Other times, nothing beats a fast paced RS game. ;D Now I just look forward to Raven Shield! Wooot! I was kicking ass at the RvS Booth at E3 last year vs other PC'ers too! I was even able to duel it out with a programmer, and had quite the show down! I still got my complimentary face mask, with the Raven Shield logo embroidered on it! ;D Now I can't wait! (That will mean a new G5 too! WOOOOT! ;D )

Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: Narauko on July 08, 2003, 12:51:30 am I can't wait for RvS, I think its going to be a toss up between AA or RvS. Don't think c| will cover both >:(
I think once RvS is out everyones going to start "Omg RvS owns Ghr" bs! i prefer playing with PC players, if you find a nice bunch of guys that aren't like most of the egotistical dicks on GR then ur all set. GR is the center of the mac gaming community and we have the best of the mac best, but wouldn't it be nice to watch a l33t pc team completly destroy our mac representatives purely because there are those that have PC's who lterally do not move from their comp...cos there the people that are the best. Title: Re:What are you looking most forward to? Post by: The Golden Shark on July 08, 2003, 03:39:25 am i seriously hope that a 533 MHZ G4 can limp AA along, because i don't have the $$ to get a new comp. (mac anyway). oh well i got my fingers crossed....
wish me luck, btw, does any one know when this thing is accually coming out? and i would like a more specific answer than : "before the end of the month." |
