Title: The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 25, 2003, 02:04:30 pm I have a feeling this year's tournament is going to be grand: the female Belgians are playing great tennis, despite Henin's hand injury and Clijster's 'bad shoulder', and the male American players?Agassi and Roddick?have both won one game already. On the other hand, I'm not sure if the English will survive. And by the way, is Ivanosevich playing at all? Well, what do you think?? I'm totally for Agassi.? If he loses, I'll probably jump off a bridge...just kidding. ;D Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: KoS Ultimo on June 25, 2003, 03:19:38 pm Tennis is a gay sport. The only time it is decent is when you are playing. Watching tennis puts me to sleep.
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: kos.viper on June 25, 2003, 04:08:56 pm The only reason Agassi losses is due to his damn dirty girl friend!
I feel that without Pete this year Wimbledon is has a huge hole in it :\ Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 25, 2003, 04:13:24 pm Your answer is blatant?why would you say that, Ulti? Have you ever played tennis before? have you ever seen real tennis? To some extent, I agree tennis can be gay, unless it is played like it should be. Don't forget tennis has to appeal to the eyes first. Tennis is an elegant sport. Hitting the ball and making it bounce all over the court is not the purpose of game. Some tennis players, or maybe the broader-minded would agree it's about the tactics, the timing, the expertise. Apparently you know shit about it. Maybe putting you to sleep is for the better, Ulti. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: Mr. Lothario on June 25, 2003, 04:16:20 pm I'm not much of a tennis observer, but I do appreciate men's tennis. The powerful serves are amazing to watch, and their ability to precisely control the placement of a high-speed serve in order to get an ace is impressive. Women's tennis, on the other hand, I have no interest in. I don't want to watch people volleying a ball back and forth, I want to watch single-serve points like you get in men's tennis.
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: kos.viper on June 25, 2003, 05:11:36 pm You mean you don't enjoy watching Serena or Penis Williams grunt? They play psychology tennis you know.
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: The Ghost of Bondo on June 25, 2003, 07:53:43 pm beefy, I don't want to defend any comments using gay to mean bad, but I think Ult was clear that watching tennis is what is bad, not playing.
I must say my personal preference is towards tennis that isn't about power as much...I like seeing rallies. Women's tennis used to be better for that but recently not so much. I really liked watching High School girls tennis, we had a bunch of hotties on our team not to mention some of the best players in the state. I was just a fairly good JV player though...couldn't crack Varsity (who have now won something like 12 straight state championships). Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: Cow on June 25, 2003, 08:35:13 pm i think ulti's comment is completely unecessary and if he does not like tennis he should keep to himself and not go out of the way to bash tennis in a thread made by someone who loves tennis. i dont even like tennis but i think ulti is a tool for making that comment
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: KoS Ultimo on June 25, 2003, 10:39:36 pm stfu if posting my feelings on a subject is not welcome on a forum, then its a gay forum too. I've seen people bash many other things alot harder so don't talk about me.
And beefy, I said playing tennis is ok, but watching it is gay. So why did you ask me if I played it before. Obviously I have if i said it was decent. Read my post before you attack me you faggot Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: The Ghost of Bondo on June 25, 2003, 10:48:23 pm Ult seems to have some sexuality insecurities leading to homophobia. Come on Ult, no reason to sound bigoted, just come to grips with yourself and don't use such terms.
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: KoS Ultimo on June 26, 2003, 06:40:44 am I apologize, but some poeple just rub me the wrong way and I write down whatever I would say to them face to face at that certain time.
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: kos.viper on June 26, 2003, 06:52:48 am woooo Roddick, 7-6 7-6 7-5
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 26, 2003, 12:45:14 pm Was that Roddick playing Rusedski there? I don't remember the scores.
Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BFG on June 26, 2003, 07:10:42 pm Yep Roddick was playing Rusedski... and poor Rusedski messed up int he third set big time.. stupid call from the crowed, and neither umpire would call replay,.. and Roddic was very unsportmanlike and would not let a point replay... it totally threw Rusedski... A real shame.
For those of you who don't live in the UK... Tennis is great but our TV's have been totally overwhelmed by it here.. Both BBC1 and BBC2 seem to show nothing but wimbledon now... (Henin looks good, As does Aggasi, and Henman, and the Williams of course!) Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 26, 2003, 10:08:11 pm Both BBC1 and BBC2 seem to show nothing but wimbledon now... Now, why shouldn't they? Tennis is great sport. And the players this year are fantastic. That's primarily why Wimbledon is being broadcasted. I have never been a great fan of Henman's. There's just something about him that ticks me off. But, he has an awful lot of volley winners, and that is what makes him a good tennis player. Yes, Henin is looking good, despite the hand injury. Luckily enough, she is doing better. Why didn't you mention Clijsters? She is by far my favorite Belgian player. She relies on tactics rather than her strength, and she seems to enjoy the game too. Argh, GO AGASSI! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: Ace on June 26, 2003, 11:32:49 pm Ult seems to have some sexuality insecurities leading to homophobia. Come on Ult, no reason to sound bigoted, just come to grips with yourself and don't use such terms. Well, tennis is gay so it only seems appropriate to use terms like "faggot" in a thread talking about it. Besides, the only time tennis is worth watching is when Anna Pornikova plays. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 27, 2003, 11:03:39 am I don't understand you people. Why on earth would you say tennis is gay? You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: Cobra on June 27, 2003, 06:11:28 pm I don't understand you people. Why on earth would you say tennis is gay? You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 27, 2003, 09:15:54 pm Bah, maybe you're right...maybe tennis is gay. But I don't mind. And that's what really counts. Tell me then, what sports are you in to? Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 29, 2003, 12:19:20 pm Right then...has anyone seen Agassi play El Aynaoui? I haven't had time to watch the match and I want to know the scores. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BFG on June 29, 2003, 01:25:08 pm Yep aggassi wen through in 4 sets i think... It was clsoe.. he only actually won a few more games.. several sets went down on tie breakers..
Was a cracking game though. Aggassi is really looking inpressive. Henman also's through in a 3 set match... mind you it was up against an 18 year old fin.. who wasnt seeded i think! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on June 29, 2003, 01:55:00 pm That's great, because I had a feeling Agassi wasn't going to get through. I didn't see the match entirely, but it wasn't looking too good for him: El Aynaoui was leading 1 set to love. Who is Agassi up against next? I'll be watching the games on TV. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BFG on June 30, 2003, 12:02:33 pm Eee. Not sure actually... they got a breather now over the weekend so not really a squeek about it..
I think the way he is playiing though means that it doesn't matter too much who he goes up against.. although him against Hewett or sampras would always be entertaining! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on July 01, 2003, 02:16:24 pm I won't be jumping off a bridge after all, but I am however very disappointed in Agassi: indeed he lost to Philippoussis, in 5 sets, 3-6 6-2 6-7 3-6 4-6. They both played very well, no doubts there. Did Henman win against Nalbandian? I'm hoping he has, strangely enough. As aforementioned, I do not like him. Also, Roddick won against Srichaphan. I haven't entirely seen the match, but I did stumble across the highlights of that day, and watched Roddick serve for match point. I must say it was very intense. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: kos.viper on July 01, 2003, 05:04:43 pm Excuse me while I go jump off a bridge with a sign that reads: "Agassi should have won!"
I was really hoping history would repeat itself and Philippoussis would choke. But oh well. It was strange watching Agassi not flinch a muscle on some of Philippoussis serves, being the best returner in Tennis. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: *DAMN Hazard on July 01, 2003, 07:12:17 pm Excuse me while I go jump off a bridge with a sign that reads: "Agassi should have won!" I was really hoping history would repeat itself and Philippoussis would choke. But oh well. It was strange watching Agassi not flinch a muscle on some of Philippoussis serves, being the best returner in Tennis. Yes! I finally have proof that Viper experimented in college! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BFG on July 01, 2003, 08:39:40 pm Philippussis hit somthing like 45 Ace's in his game against Aggassi... It was simply shocking... although the servers aggassi did return were somwhat auwsome on occasion ;)
Yep Tim Henman is through to the last eight guys... he won in bit of a nail biting 5 setter... dominating the first.. then struggling a bit... but coming back with a strong finnish. was a good game to watch! So the top three seeds are out... game on! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: |MP|Nomad on July 02, 2003, 07:19:25 am Which do you prefer, women's or men's tennis??? Seriously, in terms of athletic performance, without notions of sex b/c of the women. Myself, I prefer women, I don't know why, but tennis is the only sport where I prefer to watch women play vs. men.
Every other year, the men and women, substitute playing b/w Montreal and York Univeristy (my university btw!!) in Toronto and this year in Agust the women are here in Toronto at my university which is only 15 min walk from my house, so I will try and get tickets to watch a game. Haven't decided who to watch, I used to love to watch Capriati years ago b4 the drug arrest she had, when she was alot younger and skinner. Anyway, gimmer yer thoguhts!! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on July 02, 2003, 01:48:29 pm I prefer men's tennis, if that is what you're asking. The rallies are more intense, and the serves are amazing to watch. Also, the ability of some of the players to precisely control the placement of a high-speed serve is very impressive. This is something you rarely witness in women's tennis. Go Roddick! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BFG on July 02, 2003, 04:12:50 pm Well Henman is playing as I type... after a short rain break in which he left 1-5 games down he's come back to break serve, and now hold his serve to make it 3-5 in Grosjean's Favour....
About bloody time a Brit won wimbledon... Pity Rudseski can't be the guy to win it ;D Fun and games eh! Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BFG on July 02, 2003, 04:17:20 pm Appologies for double post.. but freaking hell anyone else watching the tennis right now? I should be working but holy shit. Who nicked henmas body and started playing good? Is this guy gonna pull a freaking bunny out his hat in a moment? Magic stuff
;D Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on July 03, 2003, 03:11:36 pm I have the feeling it's only BFG and I that keep this thread going. What's wrong with you people? Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on July 04, 2003, 12:36:40 pm Well, it seems V. Williams has won against Clijsters. Too bad, because I was really looking forward to the her success at Wimbledon, and maybe even win the tournament. Both of them played very well, with some very exciting rallies at the end. Has Roddick won against Bjorkman? I couldn't follow the match because I was busy doing something else. Doing what precisely, I won't say. ;D Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: BeefyFigure on July 07, 2003, 01:28:44 pm Roger Federer, Switzerland: WINNER OF THE 2003 WIMBLEDON TENNIS TOURNAMENT. PS: Fuck the lot of you. Title: Re:The Wimbledon Tennis Tournament Post by: Killa_Absalon on July 07, 2003, 02:32:42 pm WOOT, Swiss rule! ;D
