Title: Mac leagues/ladders
Post by: (SEALs) one on June 23, 2003, 02:09:18 am
Ok...I have no idea whats going on but...

Why are there a sudden surge of ladders/leagues
Why does everyone want to make their own league/ladder
There are already 5 mac Leagues/ladders I know of...
They are:
*DAMN-The League where all the clans particpate
BT_s-A new league with new features
TheCombatZone-Umm...think of it as a PC league with Mac stamped on it
c||-a 1vs1 ffa ladder
MagLeague-doubt anyone uses it much anymore

I believe this is a bad situation...theres just not enough Mac clans to around all these leagues/ladders...sure it can be fun, but there will be conflicts probably due to the fact there are only about 30-38GhR/RS active clans.

Post your opinions here.

well, c|'s ladder actually isn't 1v1, it's group based.  The purpose of it to offer a different type of game play that wasn't offered before.  it's just meant to be short fast games, matches are only 20 minutes that anyone in or not in a clan could participate.  Kind of the opposite of CBs which tend to be very slow and methodical, the FFA ladder is meant to be fast and mindless ;)

You look at most PC ladders and they have multiple ladders for different style's of play (team, 1v1, 2v2, siege).  I think that was basically was BTs was trying to bring to the table.

Combatzone is pretty much a PC ladder that a few mac players dabble in.

Never really seen anything on macleague.

It just looks strange because 3 different organizations are running the ladders instead of one.

All in all i don't think the variety is hurting gameplay at all.  DAMN still seems to be the prize of all the ladders, which I think is great, that's what I know c|'s focus is on.  It looks like this season for DAMN was even more active than last season, and the finals are definitely going to be a lot more exciting this time around.

Anywho...that's my 2 cents. :)

MagLeague runs ladders for many mac games, not just the Tom Clancy series like DAMN.  It's been around for many years (since before GameRanger).  So it's not really in competition with DAMN at all.  Many people here even are involved in other ladders there.  There hasn't been much attention to them in a while, as they are building a new front end game application to take the place of the old MaG Chat.

To me the only attractive thing about another ladder would be in switching the game type.  There is lots of camping in LMS Ghost Recon games.  BTs Eight and I (and Brain, Jeb and a few others) talked about this after season 3.  Siege would be good, except you can't control defending or attacking an even number of times with even teams, so it kinda sucked.

There is a server side mod that we play on our dedicated server called Warzone that would be cool for CB's.  It's like domination, but you don't have to stay in the zone.  All you have to do is touch it to control it, then keep control for 3 consecutive minutes (in other words, keep the other team away from it).  The joy of this map is it makes both teams move to the center, so while you try to snipe and cover the base, you still have to touch it at some point.

What this really does is shift the focus from staying alive and safe by camping, to having to attack.  Ok, I strayed a little, but my point was, that I don't have a problem with the Moderators or anything on the DAMN BL, that only the game type would interest me in another league.
