Title: Just some general gossip
Post by: Kyoushu (Kyo #2) on April 29, 2002, 11:41:56 am
To stray off the most common topic in here...

What does everyone think of _playing on_ modded maps?
I personally prefer playing on the originals without all the extra objects. ?I mean, it's one thing to create an entirely new map and another thing entirely to put various objects in a previously existing map to change the structure of the level. ?To me, it just doesn't seem right to screw with a map like that.

In the defense of modders (I'm thinking of Grave Digga's maps, for instance), I'm sure it is a lot easier to mod an existing map than to create an entirely new one, especially if the design of the original coincides with the modder's conceptual design for the new level (but I could be wrong, of course). ?I just don't like the way it looks or the way it plays in RS.

If anyone else has an opinion on this, I'd like to hear it, since my information is incomplete at best...

Well IMO, this thread's more about people's opinions on playing on these maps (or at least that's what I was trying to do). ?Most of the threads in the mod section of the forum seem to be either requests or technical questions. ?I'm just asking if other people feel the same way.

I kinda like them. I mean they are unusual maps and anyone can play them (server side you don't have to dl as long as server has 'em) But I enjoy maps that people make too. (ho dosen't) for instance i like operaion tigerstripe. And Jungle in Covert Ops is an utter masterpiece! Snipe and assault underneath Angel Falls of Venuzuela.

personally, i hate all of the map mods for RS. They always put one team at such an advantage it is insane. The only mod maps that i liked were the mods for the met that mauti did, and those were great because you couldn't cross, but you still could if you knew how.

For the most part I've only played Mauti's and Zomar's wonderful R6 map mods and while I wouldn't want to use them in a CB because it is likely people wouldn't all know about the map, it is great for just having a night of gaming to mix it up over the usual csl barrage.  So yes modded maps are fun (as long as it is just server-side).

i hate maps that are just like csl with new starts or something, or tv station where you are only on the roof. however, i love completely new maps like mtr3's farm and stuff. id rather play original maps then crappy server side ones.

just to get a bit more off topic, or mabye back on topic...

Apparently last year M&M's introduced a new flavor,
"Dulce de Leche", and its a chocolate-caramel mix. now i don't know abotu you, but caramel is one of my favorite flavors period. And the idea of a respected bite-sized candy like M&M's introducing a flavor like this sounds like a winner to me. But apparently they haven't really taken off yet outside of the latin-american comunity. if you all are bored or just cool, send 'em an e-mail at:
AskM-Ms@MMMars.com
and maybe we'll be seeing this candy popping up on shelves sometime soon.

I liked map mauti and zomar did for R6 - some i hated : those with much barrles that the whole map lagged like hell - but it was fun though.

My fav, is still sniper host from Mauti a small cool map with nice tactical possibilitis or for simple shoot out.

I remember the great amount of owning I did on Sniper Host (and the DAMN Hometown that cut off going to the deep part of the basement).

I like them at times, I hate it though when someone host and all they will do is modded maps, However thrown in with the normal maps they can be fun.

Well, funy u guys bring up Mauti, coz I backed that file up a long time ago, and now I have all benefits from it, since I wanted 2 play it again with MacMan, coz we thought that ServerSide mod owned, and yes, it did again. Neways, we were playing  a bit, and I had Mauti serverside in ma topic of ma game, and ppl started 2 join, unbelievable. They all said it rocked, and asked where they could get it. Well, I said it was Mautis, so it had 2 come from DAMN. But, I tried 2 search and couldn't find any, nor could the others. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Mautis maps deleted, and if so, I will put that mod under my mod section on http://rebellion.macclans.com. So all u ppl out there wanting 2 host a very kewl ServerSide mod, plz email me when u can;t find the mod on DAMN's site (like I can't) and I'll put it up.

All of Mauti's maps are available in the R6 Never Dies mod, if you wish to play them you can download that (which offers a new one player scenario, thousands of maps and some other neat extras).  It is probably the best R6 mod in existance (hmm am I biased  ;)

Hey Bondo,

not evrybody can d/l that big map pack R& ND. I cant im on 56k and it would cost me days to get it and cost me much of money.

SO i like better to have the small d/lble files and SERVERSIDE mod from MAuti, not tat big thing BANDER did although i like his mod - i was the first alpha and beta tester - hehe.

Hehe, rgr that, I'll upload it asap on the [R] site, just the Serverside mods. Also, bondo, ppl didn't know (like me) that Mautis was in a big pack.

does M&M stand for Mauti & Mods??
;)

R6 Never Dies (Serverside) mod still rocks... but... I experienced a lot of crashes on that mod, when players didn?t have the mod installed?

Yes Beast -

this can happen, and it always was the problem of this mod, when i played and tested it. it seems that noone could really solve this prob. But its also a problem of R6. R6 sometimes crashes without any reason ( but it never crashes that often RS does. RS only crashes and there is no play possible ).

So R6 ND was and is a cool mod - and it refreshes the odd look of R6 - and it getting odd when u re playing it for about 2 years on GR.
