Title: A computer problem. . . Ack! Post by: -Typhy- on March 30, 2003, 09:35:21 am Ok, I have a powerbook g4, 800mhz, ATI Radeon 64MB, 1Gig RAM, 60GB Hard Drive.
About 3 days ago, I began to have problems in OSX ( I am running all the latest stuff ). I crash doing common tasks, like opening applications. Each time, after I crash, I run "fsck -y", to eliminate any errors. Now, it often takes me 3-4 tries to startup, due to crashes. 2 days ago, I deleted my HD, and reinstalled everything, didn't help. So, I tried it again, today, and again, didn't help. I gave it to my brother to take a look at, he decided that I have a broken Hard Drive, and told me to send it into Apple ( yeah, I have Apple Care ), to get repaired. Before I sent it in, I thought that I should ask around a bit more, and be sure that the HD is indeed the problem, since it will take 6-10 days to get back from Houston. I expect that he's right, and that it's the HD, but, if anyone has any other thoughts/ideas, they would be grealy appreciated. Thanks, Typhy Title: Re:A computer problem. . . Ack! Especially if it's free, a new hard drive (or whatever component or components it turns out to be) is a good thing. : )

Post by: *DAMN Elandrion on March 30, 2003, 04:30:05 pm i had some problems starting up apps in OS X too (old PowerBook Wallstreet), and the problem there was a defunct RAM-Chip. Almost every time I startet up under OS 9, it would show me a message tellimg me that there is a problem in one RAM-chip. OS X didn't complain, but some apps couldnt be opened, unless i removed the chip...
