Title: xp and gr Post by: WardenMac on January 10, 2003, 03:06:53 am Did anyone switch to xp and notice lag while playing gr? I have noticed it alot lately. Each mod lags in the same way. Its not bad, just not as smooth as when I used 98.
Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: Whisper_44 on January 10, 2003, 03:20:47 am I have been playing GR on XP for about 6-7 months..and really havent seen anything different from 98SE(previous OS)
XP is a memory HOG not sure how your sytem ranks against the Demon Cobra has, but that may have something to do with it? Just my thoughts, can't give you much more than my opinion. Besides...you should be busy building models, teh only reason to even run that little GR.exe shoud be to take screenshots of the afformentioned MODELS to post in this forum... ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D These should help ease your pain, slow you down so the "lag"doesn't bother you so much ;) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)(http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif) Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: kazan on January 10, 2003, 03:51:03 am Same i got XP last week have'nt had anny probs with it no lag yet meybe it's time for a new PC mac. ;D

LOL!!! Yeah...what are you doing playing online Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: WardenMac on January 10, 2003, 05:24:50 am LOL, Well first of all, thats the problem, Im not playing online, the lag Im speaking of is in single player.
Secondly, I have so much spare time in between weapons from you, and we wont even mention the ellusive coco (who hasnt been seen in like three weeks), I have to play the game so I dont forget what it is ;D Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: Cobra6 on January 10, 2003, 06:05:57 am ok..ok...I get the hint. Play with the settings in GR by lowering the detail on the trees, turning off shadows, etc, and see if it helps. XP is more "resource hungry" and leaves you with less to work with. What processor are you running and how much ram?
Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: WardenMac on January 11, 2003, 01:00:40 am everything is on low detail except characters and models, I have 550 pIII with 384 ram, I know its xp, ran fine with 98, hell, half my stuff I havent reinstalled.
Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: Cocobolo on January 12, 2003, 07:02:09 pm 550 Mhz is a little low for stellar performance outta XP. Minimum I tell people is 600mhz for it, but if you don't have a 64 meg video card or above, switching up to one will help a lot. Wouldn't hurt to go up to around 512 RAM either, heh heh did you tell I make comission on upgrades? :D
Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: WardenMac on January 13, 2003, 12:56:20 am lol, yeah I can tell. Ive got the vid card covered, I may change back. Does 2000 suck up memory like xp? I saw where thats what you use.
Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: Cocobolo on January 18, 2003, 04:22:51 pm I use 2000, much less greedy and very smooth.
Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: WardenMac on January 18, 2003, 10:06:36 pm thx for the tip, im running 2000 and it works fine. Very smooth like ya said.
Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: Whisper_44 on January 21, 2003, 07:25:03 am So I have a question? Forgive my ignorance...
I have a P4 2.26 512 MB DDR,PNY 64MB_DDR ti4200 80GB, yadda yadda.. Currently running XP Home, how much increased performance will I get if I switch to Win2K Pro? Coco? Mac? ??? Title: Re:xp and gr Post by: WardenMac on January 22, 2003, 12:52:32 am Well Im not sure if you would notice any with that system you have. I was amazed at how much xp sucked up performance on my machine though. Ive never had a problem using 98, I lasted for about a week with xp and yanked that sucker off. I use Win2000 now and Im perfectly satisfied.
But thats my experience, Im sure you have no lag though. I think its time for me to upgrade ;D |
