Title: LCD Screens Post by: 0 Kilz:M: on November 26, 2002, 10:44:55 pm Someone at work was telling me that lcd screens are bad for gaming because they ghost images. But at the apple website thet say the lcd screen is great for gaming, does anyone know for sure which is better, lcd, or crt? Im in the process of buying a new computer and need all the info I can get.
Thanks peeps, Kilzo Title: Re:LCD Screens Post by: *DAMN Mauti on November 26, 2002, 11:39:53 pm I would buy a CRT simple because it is cheaper. You get a 21' screen for the same money as a 17' LCD would cost. About the Ghost Images, well for the recent LCD screens it is not true anymore although some bad voices say that Apples 23' LCD top model has still this problem. Also I would buy a screen at a PC reseller.

LCD dont sux in gaming anymore , so when u have enough money u can get one , but i wont buy an LCD from Apple, they are too expensive, u can buy better DVI monitors from PC resellers for a better price. But LCD are sometimes still to slow for extreme action gamaing. About Apple: Hey when u want to sell a product u will never say that it suy in anything, wont u? So Apple also doent. They want to sell their expencive monitors on naive ppl who blindly believe in all what apple sais. I can't decide whether to get that, or a g4 tower with a seperate monitor. If I buy the tower I still have to wait a while bedore I could afford a monitor, but of course the imac comes with one, so I dunno....
Title: Re:LCD Screens Post by: *DAMN Mauti on November 27, 2002, 12:07:21 am If you want to buy something that last longer than only one year I can only suggest a G4 tower. It's upgradeable and MacOSX makes great use of the dual chips. Also you can change the graphic card if Rainbow Six 5 comes out ;)
(I use my iMac since 3 years but I have to accept gigantic losses in playability) Also never buy RAM and additional HDs from Apple. Visit your next PC Reseller. If you don't have much money I would buy a 867Mhz tower with a Radeon 9000 and additional 512MB Ram and a 19' screen for 250bucks. The Radeon should be enough for gaming now and you can upgrade whenever you want. Lcds would be nice for using dual monitors, i've had to put up with 2 big monitors on my desk for a while.

Tower nothing less. and upgrade to a better grafics card when u need it! I wont buy the Imac. It looks nice but thats all. U cant upgrade and u payed as much as for an Tower with a big Monitor! Title: Re:LCD Screens Post by: ShadowBox on November 27, 2002, 06:04:08 am Kilzo:
First off if you go with a top notch LCD (all digital/no analogue), they are just fine for gaming as long as you are able to run them at their native resolution. Apples displays are very good but are slightly more expensive than a comparable LCD (@ $100-$150 more). As for which system, here are your options: 17" iMac $1999 what you get: 800MHz G4 256MB ram (upgrade to at least 512MB) GF4MX 32MB 17" widescreen LCD dual 867MHz PowerMac $1699 what you get: dual 867MHz G4's 256MB ram (upgrade to at least 512MB) GF4MX 32MB add monitor @ $300 for 19" Viewsonic A-90-f at CompUSA add better graphics card @ $180 for Radeon 8500 at MacMall total price @ $2200 = much better system for gaming than 17" iMac. Im in the process of buying a new computer and need all the info I can get. It's not quite as clear for games, or graphics work... I like my 19" true-flat CRT, but am looking at a pair of 18.1" LCD's. It's really a personal choice. Go to your Mac store and play with some displays, and do the same at like CompUSA. That should give you a good idea of what it looks like. Thanks peeps, Kilzo |
