Title: Hey I Need Some Dreamweaver Help
Post by: †FiRE Infection on November 23, 2002, 03:57:56 am
Hey in DW I have a site on my computer and I have a page linked to a button.  I set it so the page is linked then I go to preview in Internet Explorer and when I click the button that goes to that page it goes to it but none of the images or banners load.

When I check the page that I made by itself in IE it loads all of the images fine, but then when it's linked off a button on the main page it goes to it but none of the images load.  I had the same problem with a different button and page but I just saved it and quit and it started working.  I've worked on this problem though for two days and I can't get this particular link to load.  I've tried remaking it and saving it and everything.  Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Mainman, if you don't know, don't respond. Infect, could you put your site online, so we could see what you mean? it sounds like your saying that the links on the pictures don't work, and that the pictures on load. if the links dont work, make sure the site which your linking it to is in the target, or have a hotspot (though I don't know how to use that). Or open the linking page in dreamweaver, and see if the pictures load. You might not actually have the pictures there, or if the site is up, you might not have the pictures uploaded.

infect,
i'd think that the problem would rest more in IE than in DW,
open the preffs in IE and check to see if you have the disk cache turned off, then clear the cache. The problem with the cache is that IE would refer to the html file in the cache rather than read the updated html file you want to see. So i suggest you keep the cache off when doing web work, or just try it in multiple browsers.
If that doesn't work you might want to scan over the html file and make sure it looks right.

I'd guess that you're linking to the images as they appear in different directories.  But I can't really help unless I see the source code.  Could you post it here, and/or make the site live?  (You can use a test directory  like I did)

Hey infection:
Is it possible that you set up the links as absolute as opposed to relative? As I use Golive for my web design, and not Dreamweaver, I'm not sure that would be the cause of your problem. But every now and again, whether a link is absolute or relative, has cause similar problems for me.
