Title: hm Post by: spike.aHa! on November 07, 2002, 07:00:07 pm how long does a GR account last? or does evill trash them eventually? for example, could i come back after a year away, and still have my orig. account?
and it is possible to IP connect usin a PC to a mac game.....right? please dont kill me cause im a dumbass, im jus wondering Title: Re:hm Post by: Typhy on November 07, 2002, 07:06:20 pm Heh, actually its a good question. I think that an account goes inactive after about 6 months of not being used.
Title: Re:hm Post by: Brain on November 07, 2002, 09:10:46 pm i thought it was longer than that.
i had gotten an account back in early highschool, and didnt really start playing till about a year after that Title: Re:hm Post by: *DAMN Silent Killer on November 07, 2002, 09:14:32 pm yah i thought it was way longer if anything because *DAMN had some inactive members (MR sado) who just came back after over 6 months of not playing and they let him use his old account

So, unless he needed to purge some records for space, there's no reason that you wouldn't be able to leave for a year or more, and not be able to log right back in.
As long as you can get info, and find all the account info on someone, then that info still exists in the database. It wouldn't do any good to not let you log into it, that would just be more code, not less. And if he needed to slim down the database for performance, then it would be better to delete the old records all together. Title: Re:hm Post by: Typhy on November 07, 2002, 10:44:00 pm In that case, maybe I've been ban more than once, about 2 years ago I tried to log on my origonal account, it woudln't let me. I assumed it'd gone inactive.
Title: Re:hm Post by: Buccaneer can't login on November 08, 2002, 05:12:26 am It could be that. It could be that the password was different. It could be that the password got hosed in the database. It could be that he does make them inactive (it wouldn't be the first time that someone did something that didn't make much sense). I can't say. But I don't see any reason he would do it, and excluding bans that people don't think are just, I don't see Evill doing things that don't make sense.
Title: Re:hm Post by: Typhy on November 08, 2002, 05:37:17 am Evill? Doing things that don't make sence? What was this? Somthing about trying to ban IP joining?
Title: Re:hm Post by: |MP|Cringe on November 08, 2002, 06:16:38 am 1. sk, 6 months is not more than a year.
2. IP joining has NOT been banned. (yet) 3. Typhy, bans are by IP, not account, so you wouldnt be able to use ur original account anyway. 4. Personally, I think the accounts last pretty much until gr dies. Title: Re:hm Post by: (SiX)Ben on November 08, 2002, 06:35:37 am You don't know. He bans Mac addresses and old accounts Cringe...
Ben Title: Re:hm Post by: Brain on November 08, 2002, 06:37:04 am there is only one answer to this.
Evill: if you read this can you please answer our question on how long accounts last? Evill is the only one that knows, and it is pointless for any of the rest of us to post to this thread anymore Title: Re:hm Post by: Ace on November 08, 2002, 07:04:19 am Brain, they last forever as far as anyone can tell. As long as you still have the password and the old account number, you should have no problems logging in.
Title: Re:hm Post by: Typhy.OmniWeb on November 08, 2002, 07:23:52 am Cringe, he bans by account, and Mac Address. Thats why creative router work can get you back on easily. Most people like me though, don't have the time or the money to buy and set up a router.
Title: Re:hm Post by: electronicjo on November 08, 2002, 09:25:56 am Your router's "Spoofed MAC Address" probably has nothing to do with how GR bans. Since the GR application runs on your computer that has it's own MAC addy, it is possible it sends that to the GR server and verifies it with databased info. Of course, there are ways to ban your entire subnet, so getting a new computer or NIC won't solve the problem as easy.
And to stay on topic... Bucc seems to have the idea right: It's always stored unless there was some sort of server problem, but you can never be 100% sure.... |
