Title: RS Crash Site
Post by: 0 Kilz:M: on September 11, 2002, 11:49:21 pm
Well, yet another problem with my RS. This is what happens now, I play about 5-7 games and crash. My RS Log says it couldnt find files...like bullet_hit_safe_glass, z.m, none.....and so on. So I completely deleted RS and reinstalled. It still happens. I trashed prefs, and it still happens. Has anyone ever gone through this, and does anyone know how to fix it? It gets real sickening crashing all the time. If you can help, please do, thanks all....Kilzo

hmmm.  if you still have the problem after a reinstall my guess that it would be one of 3 things
1 your disk is scratched, but that doesnt explain why rs still plays for 5-7 games
2 you have a conflict somewhere. are there any programs running in the backgrround? have you installed new software around the time when the problem started to manifest it's self
3 rs is corrupting/deleting the file.  either that or nav or some other program is picking it up as a virus and nuking it

2 is by far the most likely scenario, but who knows, with out more info i cant help you.

last year at about this time my RS would crash every 30mins or so. A reinstall didn't help either. I just kinda waited it out and now everything runs fine.

Must be a conspiricy.Must be a conspiricy. The government is targeting mac rs players in order to make them into flesh eating cow-borgs!!!

Hmmmm, did you "obtain" in a not so encouraged way? Was their anyway that the program you got could have been tampored with before you got it, Ebay?

Pardon my use of Orange, I am testing out colors. While I myself are not much of a Rogue Spear player, I can see from your post and comments about the problem that it is most likely a computer problem with the data outside of Rogue Spear. When you completely delete it, make sure to take out it's preffrences too which will be found in the system folder. I would sugest running genral computer trouble shooting procedures ( VRAM etc. ), if worst comes to worst, a complete deletion and resinstallation of your harddrive will almost certianly work.

Please pardon the double post. Do you guys find that Orange that I used a bit hard to read? I find that if you look closely, you can read it, but it's not the best color to use, what do you guys think?

Thanks,
Deadlock.

yes, that orange sucks, may i suggest a dark color as those tend to be easier to read, perhaps brown or red

i will say this however, i doubt that the users folder is damaged, so if you do reinstall/reformat, you can simply transfre the users folder over to the new copy and you will have all your keysettings, mission scores, and mp bound keys

Well, if he has already done a full reinstallation, I would just simply try the next step in commen problem shooting which is to delete the preffs from the system folder before worrying about a full reinstallation. And yes, no more orange, I think that for now I'll stick to black.

Here is what my RS Log says after I crash:

R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file z.m
R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file z.m
R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file bullet_hit_safeglass.tga
R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file bullet_hit_safeglass.tga
R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file none
R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file none
R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file none
R6FILENAME: FindFile could not find file none

Sometimes it says other things, but mostly that....

hmm...
"bullet...hit...glass.." maybe you should try not to shoot out anymore windows or cabinets lol  ;)

Well, my log seems to also be filled with "Could not find bulett_hit_safeglass.tga" or whatever it is, but I never crash, that is why I don't think the problem is related to your Rogue Spear, at this point I'd have to go with FarmerJeb's advice, just wait it out and hope it goes away.
