Post by: 214_Mad_Moose on September 05, 2002, 09:04:44 pm
Halo2 trailer released last night!
Bungie Has ported it over to Quicktime for us mac people  ;D
its 27.1 megs
it was made with Halo 2's own graphics engine, so what you see will be as good as it is in the game :)

     Three words: Oh God, yes.

My favorite part of Halo is that it's Marathon with an even more badass Marine. "What if you miss?" "I won't." *woosh*

*cough* rushjob *cough*

As pretty as Halo 2 may be, it is coming out way to quickly on the heels of the first one that it can only be a bad thing.  I blame Microsoft, I don't think Bungie would do it on their own, they'd make sure it was unique enough.

Same thing happened with Super Monkey Ball...the first was just an amazing game (the best I've played in the past two years) but the sequel which came out 10 months later (last week) just isn't close to as good...sure it isn't bad but it isn't great.

Ok bondo, it came out a year ago in 2 months, and Halo2 isnt coming out for over 1 more year. its not a rush job, they have all the time they need this time, no deadline

actually, the first halo was a major rush job, seeing how it had to be released with the xbox. for halo 2 they basically did everything they didnt have time to do in the first one, with a new plot of course..

the first halo couldnt really be considered a  rush job, it was started several years before xbox was announced

What he means is they didn't have enough time to fully learn what the Xbox is capable of and thus couldn't harness its power fully...hence problems with framerate.

I do think that Halo 2 can very well be a more polished Halo...but it won't be very different is my worry.

Not only did they not have the chance to learn the Xbox fully, but they had to castrate the game to make it feasible on a console. In the early (pre-Microsoft purchase) notes about Halo, you can see that they were planning on some really amazing stuff. A lot of that stuff would probably have been well-nigh impossible to pull off on a console, so they scrapped them. ....hm. I just looked on Bungie's site for the development news, and couldn't find it. So, bah. However, I did find post-Microsoft development notes here (http://rampancy.synfibers.com/node.php?id=109). I think earlier articles might be found at rampancy (http://rampancy.net), where partway down the left side of the page, you'll notice a "nostalgia" section, starting with the first notice from Bungie that they were working on an as-yet-unnanounced game codenamed Blam. : )

Also check this out: bungie.net (Especially "Croc Hunter".) (http://www.bungie.net/perlbin/blam.pl?file=/site/1/site/halo/features/outtakes_03.html)
And this: Funny, funny, funny. (http://rampancy.net/node.php?id=2750)

well it will be in a different setting, Earth, and other places most likely.
theres over twice as many vehicles, more guns, more alien races, and the multiplayer is like they wanted to do it the first time.

and its continuing the storyline where the first left off, But only one thing puzzles me, Master Chief saves the universe from the flood and halo, and destroys an entire covenant armada. HE DOESNT EVEN GET PROMOTED?!?! what is that about :o 8). lolz, (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/banana.gif)

sorry for double post, but I had to say this

Myth 2 was made by bungie and the game is played at another gaming community for PC/Linux/Mac, which is awesome, to clear up about Myth 2

You've got to be kidding me. Never heard of Myth 2? Myth basically invented a new type of game, and Myth 2 perfected it. Both of them sold incredibly well and got lots of press, and both were Bungie games. I'd be surprised if most people hadn't heard of it.

I also happen to own Myth: The Total Codex, even though I suck the dick at Myth. Hehe.

oNe, I hope that Halo 2 doesn't lack innovation, but history shows that sequels that come right on the heels (and 2 years is right on the heels) tend to either suck or not be innovative.

Examples are:
Tomb Raider 3 and beyond
Twisted Metal 3 and beyond
Super Monkey Ball 2
Rogue Spear ;)
Crazy Taxi 2 and beyond

Sure, it may add a full online mode, a new story with new levels, but if they don't add anything to how the game plays it is no different than adding a mod to a game...it is nice, but likely you wouldn't pay full price for it.

Geek, would you pay for a mod for RS...a full $50 because it has new levels?

I tend to think that Bungie didn't get to put everything into Halo that they planned to, and therefore Halo 2 is their chance to do what they wanted to in the first place. Besides which, I have confidence in Bungie. We'll see if that confidence is justified. ; )

a new engine with a new massive online mode with new levels and a new story is not a mod. its a whole new game

-sigh-

bungie will not be worthy until they repent their evil overlord and return to the world of good.

Other than that, it looks awesome, but i wanna see some gameplay shots. Sure, the cinema is rendered in engine, but all those fancy camera angles disappear when you start playing. Show me the gameplay, baby!
