football season starts today, and that means that the U.S. has just devided in to 32 rival factions, each rooting for their favorite team.  friends and family have been torn apart by age old rivalies(ie packers Vs. bears, etc) and it wont stop till the superbowl is over


ok, so maybe it isn't that big of a thing, but here is the place to leave all those 'my team is going to the superbowl and is going to crush all opponents in the process' posts

if there is a rivalry, let's hear it. opinions, commentary, anaylsis, and just plain team support are all welcome here

Well, I have three fantasy football teams so when you combine all the players from them I'm a fan of every team.  Depending on who I play I can be cheering for and against the same exact player.

Anyway, as for real rivalries, not much beats Denver vs. Oakland...Denver vs. Kansas City is pretty good as well.

Minnesota might have had good rivalries back when they didn't suck.

Hell Yeah i mean all my favorite teams Are not good enough to win the super bowl But hey who cares I mean 49's Rock, i also like the Seahawks (live in Alaska closest team around they suck but are fun to watch) i like oakland  (they got jipped last year)! The Titans are not even closethey use to be good but nope never good enough (Fucking rams 1 Damn yard short)!  Lastly the team the team that has the best chance the Steelers =)! I hate the Rams and Packers!!! The Patriots are a team I kinda like!

 Uh, no SK, let's review the packers offense, Terry Glen, Amand Green, and Brett Favre, I consider Glen better than Freeman.. Bubby Franks will pick up the play a little etc. I'd post  more, but I just got home from Vollyball practice, basically, Packers all the way.

If we are going to talk College Football, I'll have to say, CU rules (we'll ignore the CSU game, they are cow town whores anyway).  Our problem is that we go into the game with no games played where as CSU goes in having played one...all three years that have been losses are same way.  Last year we had Fresno State (should have won that game) before going to CSU and we won.

CU owned the second half of the game...on both sides although they had one to many mistakes in the game to actually win.

All your other teams will own the seahawks. acept we have a really great stadium, i saw a college football game in the new stadium last week, it was amazing.

yes, that was a good game tonight, a bit sloppy in the first half though(what was it 4 changes of possesion<sp> with out a punt?) early 3rd quarter looked better, and by the late 3rd and into the 4th quarter it looked like real nfl football again

i wouldnt say say that both teams played an excelent game that neither should be ashamed of. SF just happened to be ahead when the time ran out

To all the 49er doubters out there, we have more wins than every other team in the league combined. Suck on that. Bondo, as for your Broncos, first they are going to get stomped by the Rams (even though I wish otherwise) and then the 49ers are gonna stick it to 'em. I feel bad that your team's gotta start out 0-2, but I guess those are the breaks.

And speaking of 0-2, that's what Colorado's record is gonna be in a week and a half when the Trojans come to town and stomp 'em. Wow, things really aren't looking good for you Bondo.

 Not picking them to go all the way, but I do expect them to win the devision, in a close race with the rams. Sorry Bondo, but Ace is right, you're going 0-2. - It would be pretty sweet if you took out the Rams though. I don't have a TV and the game wasn't on the radio, I got updates from the inetnet, aparently, the 49ers didn't look so good, but still, thats what happens in the first few weeks, Brain and I will be watching as our Packers beat up on the Falcons at 1:00 PM Eastern Time Sunday.

Casper, what the fuck are you smoking? It ended 16-13 on Cortez's game winning 36 yard field goal. All I have to say is that with the way the Niners played, they were very lucky to leave New York with a W. As for the Niners stomping on the Broncos...it will be the other way around if they play the same way they played yesterday.

Seahawks suck. suck suck suck. I like the Vikings, cuz their colors are cool. I never liked the Niners cuz everyone I knew where I lived in CA was obsessed with them, and liking popular things isn't cool. So I should change my vote to the Phoenix Phoenixes, since nobody has heard of them, much less root for them.

Ace, I assume you were joking about CU losing tomorrow just like I wasn't all that serious about the Broncos beating the 49ers (although it will be closer then the CU game).  I don't know how the Broncos will be this year.  They have all the depth in the world on offense but that doesn't equal production.  Their D looks improved though.

 I really gotta get a TV so that I can watch these games. If the Texans win, it will be a fluke, I dislike the Cowboys, and don't think that they're much of a team, but the Texans are new to the league and don't really have any great tallent.

Just because they are an expansion team doesn't mean they have no talent.

Thankfully the Broncos didn't pull a Vikings and choke away the win.  Will be interesting next week...what with My CU Buffaloes playing against Ace's USC Trojans on Satuday and then My Denver Broncos playing Ace's SF 49ers on Sunday.

B'aaam in your face. The Houston Texans won! It is true that they will probablly suck shit this season. BTW on ULTS quote. I am a Jets fan and I hope they kick the 49ers ass. Most of Texas knows that their NFL teams suck ass. So many, atleast in Austin are more fixated on the Longhorns. They will countinue to kick Aggie Ass and Eat Cornhuskers for breakfast.

 Yep, the Texans have won, I really didn't expect this, I don't think Dallas has much of a team, but most expansion teams don't win their first games.. They played welll though, and came out on top.

Well like it takes much to beat Dallas. BTW Casper, I know the 49ers will kick Jet's ass. I just hate everything Californian =).

 I don't want to agree with Casper, so, Let's go J-e-t-s Jets Jets Jets. :). The thing Bondo, is that an expansion team has only had one draft as well as of course the expansion draft to get players, once a team has been around a few years, they have more options etc. That is why it normaly takes a few years. I expect to see the Texans go 4-12 or so this year. Still, a good start, only the second expansion team to win their first game.  

Well, they got some gems in the expansion draft and through free agency as well as the draft (remember that in addition to all the uncontested picks they get in the expansion draft they also have more picks in the normal draft and also have more cap room).

Players like Corey Bradford really are quite solid...he was one of the top Packers recievers the past few years after all.  And they have some great O-line players like Boseli...they just happene to be a bit banged up.  And I think they got a mighty fine QB...if they get that O-Line healthy they could do quite well on offense as it would help the running game with the decent but not great Allen at back.

The do have some solid players on defense as well and looked quite capable there as well.  If they have a good defense there is no telling what they can do in the division that they are in as neither Indy or Tennessee are teams that are that strong that they aren't open to losing to teams with less talent.

i'd like to mentsion the packer game as a game of note. not because either team owned the other, but becaues it was just plain excelent football.  2nd and 3rd efforts were common through out the game(like green bays touchdown to take the lead with about 1 min left in the fourth), and generally the play was mostly flawless(worthy of note, that guy on the falcons who missed the wide open long bomb should be drug out in the street and run over by the falcons bus on it's way out of town. but hey he had a whole state willing him to fuck that catch up so i'm not too suprised  ;)) the game went into overtime and both teams got defensive stops. , but in the end the pack won it on a field goal. what a way to christen the new stadium huh?

to cossack, dont get your hopes up too much about a winning seasonfor the texans. most sports pundits arent even giving them 4 wins, i'm gonna guess that they will top out at 6, and frankly i'd eat my hat if they got 8 or more

 Cory Bradford is a good player, not great though, they got a pretty good kick return specialist in Charlie Rogers, I just don't think that they have what it takes to get above .500 this year. As for that Packers game, yes, a very well played game, Vick was always a step ahead of the Green Bay defense, thank god that they were able to come out on top in the end.

All I said is they have the proper set-up to be successful (by expansion standards)...not that they would.  I wouldn't put them for more than 5 wins...mark my word on this though...they won't be the worst team in the NFL...Baltimore, Carolina, and Detroit all suck much worse...and apparently Dallas.

Speaking of which, I'm 8 of 15 on my picks (against the spread) which pust me in third in my 16 person pick'em league.  I would have been 12/15 without a line missing with Minnesota, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.  And the first two were real choke jobs.

I have Priest Holmes in two of my leagues so it looks like I have a good shot at winning in those.  I'm a bit behind in my other but I still have two players left (RB of NE along with one of their DBs who also returns kicks) and am easily in striking distance if they have decent games and a touchdown.

 Oh, and what was that Sin? Somthing about the Steelers beating the Patriots...

 Casper, I wouldn't be too happy if I were a 49ers fan, if they play the way that they did against the Giants, they'll be about a 7-9 football team.

I ( like Typhy ) are a Packers fan but not a Packers freak like Typhy is, I watched NFL films from the game, as well as listened to Sporting News Radio's review on it. The Pack played well, not great, but well. Favre had one interception I do belive, which for a quarterback like him, is pretty good, our defense seemed to have problems getting preasure on Vick, but the Falcons played very well and put up a great fight, I'd say that the Pack played far better in week one than did the 49ers.

 Very good points Deadlock, the propper grammer at the beginning of your post would be "I am" rather than "I are" :). I agree with every point that you make, Michael Vick ran over our defense pretty effectivly. In week two, we'll see if it was just a great performance by Vick, or poor play on the part of the Packers defense.

Maybe the Broncos are just good...their Defense is just loads better...so good that they shut down St. Louis' offense.  And I think the offense showed glimpses of the passing game of a few years ago...the running game is not quite what it was although I really think Clinton Portis will help out when he gets more and more into the game.  If Griese keeps his head straight which I think he can, there is no team the Broncos can't beat.

it's true that farve did have one pick, and a few close calls, but it happens to every QB, and because farve tries to hit those 1 inch holes(and he often can) his pick numbers go up
i think that the falcons were getting out played  in the 4th quarter and going to OT. they weren't getting owned oughtright, but the pack seemed to be doing a better job on d( the sack and numerous pocket penetrations to end the falcons drive)

 I have a Cheese Head too you know! It sits downstairs, I only put it on for special games because everyone says that I look like an idiot. Anyways, for a quarterback like Favre only to have one pick, thats pretty good wiith some of the stuff that he throws.

Ace, read my thread specifically about it.  USC only won because the CU quarterback was hurt...and because of the awful officiating.  There is no way you can judge the teams on this game.  Any bragging you do is foolish.
