Title: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Post by: Jeb on August 29, 2002, 09:35:23 am
with all this talk of mario sunshine, i thought i'd bring to the table, what will be the best game ever. GTA:vice city.
i'm sure most of you have played GTA3 somewhere, and i haven't meet anyone who didn't like it. the follow up looks great, the map is 2 times larger than liberty city, there are almost 3 times more cars, motorcycles, helocopters, 3 times more weapons, and enhanced textures.
head over to

 www.vicecity.com
or
http://weir.8m.com/gtavc/index.html

i also noted that on amazon.com while i was preordering my copy, that it already has a 5star rating even though no one has played it yet...

120 cars including a lamburgini.(excuse weak spelling) Wombat knows a lot more so when he sees this thread he could probably give some cool facts.

While I find your claim that it will somehow be the best game ever laughable...I do think GTA:VC will be a great game.

I just hope that it is the game GTA3 should have been by fixing the shooting/targeting system (which it is said it does), rather than just being GTA3 in a new city with new cars, new guns, but the same gameplay.

Its 6 times larger than GTA. You will be able to enter more building's like Disco's ad casino's. Lets hope they got a motorcross bike in it. Cause the bike in the movie is a Chopper. And i personnally think i will need a 650 cc Crossmotor to outrun the cops in any terrain.

I am one of those people that still play Grand Theft Auto 3 often. It is just by far, without a doubt, the greatest game ever made for any console ever made. There were three things that I thought the new version needed. One, helicopters, two, motorocycles, and last, but certainly not least, the ability to go into buildings.
I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait. I can't wait.

Bondo, mb its just you, but everyone loves that game (gta3), i hear the fighting system is going to be martial arts oriented, plus the targeting system is much better.
Even if it was GTA3 in a new city i'd still like it.
jeb
ps. its one of those perfect open ended games

Damnit, this game might force me to buy a PS2 since it wont be out on the PC yet. Looks damn good and I hope it tops the already high bar that GTA3 set.

Oh, I like the game...quite a bit as I gave it a 9 out of 10...but it is flawed and IMO runs out of replay value after about 20-25 hours tops.  So in no way is it the greatest game ever.  A great game without a doubt and the best on the PS2 so far (just ahead of GT3), it is also better than any Xbox game...but it isn't better than Super Monkey Ball from this console generation...nor is it better than a good number of games from before (Zelda OoT, Goldeneye, Rayman 2, Sonic Adventure, Skies of Arcadia, Mario 64) and it probably isn't better than a number of games coming out this fall (Mario Sunshine for one).  I'm not calling it a bad game, but I think the gamers of the present are way too enamored with the violence of the game and give it more credit then it is due.

there is one thing different than any of those games you mentioned bondo, gta3 is still fun to play, and there is never a dull moment. again mb its you, but i've spent along time playing it, and its not boring yet

Title: Re:Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Post by: Bondo on August 30, 2002, 05:24:10 am
I didn't think that you had a Gamecube (or do these comments to the quality of Super Monkey Ball as one of those games come from your rectum).

But I suppose the difference is that I find violent games to tire quickly compared to less violent games.  Same with more realistic games tiring before unrealistic games.  Basically for GTA3, I got to a point where the mission was just so ridiculous that it wasn't fun progressing further (about 75% through).  The difficulty most certainly was something that held GTA3 back.

Who cares about GTA:VC...I have the game that will probably be game of the year already...Animal Crossing.  It is incredible fun and will be so for ages as it paces well and has no real end.

game of the year for the sub 12 year old division bondo...
no game can top the 5million preorder mark, not even your weak ass gamecube
btw, don't give me any shit about the game cube being for "vetern gamers" cause i look to have fun when i turn a console, not play some aged shit made for 10 year olds. yes 10 year olds, nintendo marketed it for younger children because they can't hold their own in the "adult video game market". I think that is pretty eminent in their games. the only game on the gamecube that would be mildly apealing to me was resident evil.
the only thing that makes the GC better than the Xbox is my passionate hate for microsoft

Title: Re:Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Odd then that the GCN has an older average owner age than the PS2 or the Xbox.  Thing is, most gamers aren't insecure enough to care about the apparence of a game and only care if it is fun, and that is what Nintendo games are.  Violence doesn't make a game fun, usually it makes a game suck.

As for your bragging about preorder numbers...MGS2 had a large preorder but that didn't stop it from sucking.  Besides, GTA:VC would have no shot at game of the year as it isn't innovative.

Since most parents have to buy the GameCube for their 7 year olds, then i guess in a way that fact is true
There have been 30million ps2s sold world wide
and something like 3 million gamecubes sold (acording to cnet in may)

Quote

GTA3 wasn't a fun game simply because you can run over old women on the side walk, i think anyone else here can agree that its fun because it never gets old. There are so many differnet things to do in the little virtual world that it provides so much gameplay.

MGS2 wasn't all that bad in some people's opinions.
Inovative games don't simply win game of the year because they are inovative, look at Black & White.
GTA3 has a tremendous fanbase because its one of the best open ended games around (you can only beat your crappy super mario games once before it gets old). GTA:VC takes its foundation of GTA3, makes the world 2 times bigger, adds 3 times more cars, motorcycles, helecopters, a real world environment, inhanced AI, and a more vibrent living breathing city. Lazlo is back, and there is 3 times more radio (10 hours).
If those sales figures for the gamecube are correct, then GTA:VC will have almost 3million more preorders than GCs exist (5million preorders currently).
If you want to talk about more better more mature games then the ps2 is that, you can't hide the fact that the Gamecube is marketed to 7 year olds. Simply because nintendo can't make better games that are apealing to more mature people.

You show off your gaming ignorance...the Gamecube isn't marketed to KIDS, it just isn't marketed to teens.  The Gamecube is marketed at families...that is to say, children and adults.

As for GTA3 lasting forever...I got sick of it after 25 hours...no more than Mario or a number of other games.  And from the newsgroups, it seems many people got tired of it rather quickly as well.

Finally, your numbers about the GCN sales are not even close.  At the end of MAY the GCN had sold 2 million in Japan, 1 million in Europe, and 2.5 million in the US.  That is 5.5 million three months ago.  Now it is four months later so it is safe to add another 1-1.5 million.  I'll remind you that the PS2 wasn't exactly doing so hot in its first 9 months...even if it was due to lack of supply...that has been the case for the GCN to some degree as well earlier this year.

Dude, you can pick up a hooker, then kill the bitch and get your money back. Suck on that Mario Sunshine!

As for GC vs PS2, 30 million vs whatever doesn't look too good anyway you put it.

bahahaha, yeah. gta3 and gta:vc are some of the sole reasons i might get a ps2 this winter. ahhh, video games, they're an expensive habbit.

now, i dont think bondo gets out too much. i may be wrong, but every teenager i know who has/wants a gamecube tends to be one of those kids who's best friend is their little brother. on that note, i gtg because some friends are coming over to play quantum redshift  8)

1: GTA 3,4
2 : Internet play with SOCOM and Madden 2003 and others
3: Gamecube is directed tords little people for instance the tthree games i have ever seen for GC is
1: Pikman
2: Mario Sunshine
3: Wemons Vollyball

Maybe you should just stop talking so you don't look more ignorant about video games.  The DVDs are smaller because they are a proprietary format that can't be pirated.

Title: Re:Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Post by: Jeb on October 02, 2002, 02:12:55 am
bondo,
i'm not ignorant about console systems, i simply am not in denial about the GCN
as far as pirating PS2 cds... how many people burn DVDs now adays. It will become more prominant in the future however.

Its also nice to know that the Gamecube's small dvds hold shit for data compared to some of the dual layered DVDs the ps2 uses (7gigs or something around there)

Title: Re:Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Post by: Bondo on October 02, 2002, 03:57:57 am
What part of proprietary didn't you understand...no one can burn a GCN disc because you must have the specific burning device that Nintendo uses to create it...basically you'd have to steal it from Nintendo in order to pirate it...you can't just do it with a DVD burner.

Plus, a single layer GCN disc can hold 1.5 GB...double layer would be 3.  No game NEEDS any more than that.  The only thing that would make that not enough room is FMV which is absolutely unneccesary and actually is bad for gaming.  Square games have sucked since they went to the PSX because they've been intereactive movies rather than games.

Dude... How does cd copying have anything to do with which system is funner?! Look at the truth, you both are basing your reasons on opinions... GameCube may be funner to Bondo then PS2... PS2 may be funner then GameCube to Jeb... How bout we just stop there? Nothing else can really be said... (besides the fact that PS2 owns GameCube)

Okay, come on guys. We all know what the best game ever is, and we're all just in denial. We all know in our hearts that Pacman can kick GTA3:VC's ass. I mean come on..He's a little yellow pie with a slice cut out, that goes around eating dots and avoiding ghosts. The storyline was the best ever. I mean, you got to be a PIE that ate DOTS! And ran from ghosts! GTA3 doesn't have anythin' on Pacman.

Title: Re:Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Post by: Mr. Lothario on October 02, 2002, 06:21:08 pm
Don't forget that Pac-Man was supposed to be a pizza, but the graphics hardware couldn't handle drawing a circle with a slice missing that also sported dots representing pepperoni. 'Tis true.

Besides, if you're gonna reach back to the dawn of time for the best game ever, you should keep reaching until you get to Spacewar. Newtonian physics, an accurate starmap, a custom-made controller, and the whole damn thing ran on a PDP-1. Let us all bow in homage to the MIT hackers. Hehe.

On a sadder note... the most recent game station Ben has is a dreamcast... Which stopped making games right after I bought it... and... the second most recent is a Super Nintendo (that PWNS YOU!) SO Ben was never able to beat MGS1 (just play the demo) or even so as much as play Halo, or MGS2... I only got to play GTA3 one time.. In which is pwned me with its awesome graphics.. So sad indeed!

nice old thread revival,
i didn't like MGS2 (and bigpat disowned me on that one).
there is one thing about that game though, it was really hyped before it came out, then it ended up being a disapointment to most gamers.
on the other hand we have ViceCity, which is hyped, but reviews so far have it all at 10s, not even bondo's weak kiddie games  stand a chance against GTA:VC for game of the year

Title: Re:Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Post by: Bondo on October 27, 2002, 04:54:11 am
Bah, how come you get to say MGS2 is overrated but when I do I get it up the ass (ok, I can probably think of an explaination for that)...

MGS3 as an Xbox exclusive or at least temporarily so?  I really don't understand developers...they talk like they are going for a profit and then they release their games on the Xbox which whether you like it or not, doesn't sell many games (for example, no Sega game has sold more than 100k in the US for it).  The Gamecube has a slightly higher potential for massive sales as it has many more 500k selling games than the Xbox (something like 12-4) but if they are going to make a game for anything, make it for the fucking P$2 cash cow (and the little GBA cash cow).
