Title: The great music debate Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 08, 2002, 10:27:15 pm What kind of music do you listen to to relax? To get your blood pumping? While you're studying? What's your favorite genre and/or artist? What genre or artist makes your eardrums bleed? Now's your chance to weigh in on this all-important issue!
Most of my MP3 playlist is either video game music or remixes of video game music (www.vgmix.com, w00t), or classical. But there's a generous dash of assorted pop and techno, too. As embarrassing as it is, I've even got one disco track. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Brain on July 08, 2002, 10:40:50 pm i listen to alot of different music
clasical to relax whatever's on the radio normaly and zen when i play rogue spear (my kill count usally goes up by 1 or 2 per game) Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 08, 2002, 10:41:46 pm Zen? Vas ist das?
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Brain on July 08, 2002, 10:47:06 pm zen music, like zen buddist (mellow, slow, environmental, and about as anti action as you can get)
also, i like bodies by drowning pool for playing rs Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 08, 2002, 10:50:21 pm ::nod:: That's about what I figured. Very interesting. Is there any available for free that I could nab to have a listen to?
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Brain on July 08, 2002, 10:52:54 pm probably, read your instant messages loth
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Jeb on July 08, 2002, 11:19:36 pm Well loth,
i listen to trance. as far as that goes, its electronic music or techno.Your probly acustomed to the shit they play on the radio or MTV like, moby, chemical brothers, or darude. Trance is a great genre to relax to, or to pump you up (fast driving music). a great website to check out if your interested is www.trance.nu some good DJs are Paul Oakenfold Paul Van Dyk Dj Tiesto Dj ferry corsten Gouryella Mars and Mystre Dj Johan geilen Dj Stigma and Sasha and john digweed and its hard to download trance nowadays without Audiogalaxy, so if you want anything ask me cause i've got over 30gigs of mp3s Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Mr. Lothario on July 08, 2002, 11:38:13 pm Thanks, Jeb. : ) I'll definitely take you up on that offer.
Actually, I can't stand poptechno like Moby. I've never heard a single track by him that I enjoyed or that didn't strike me as wholly unoriginal and boring. The kind of techno I enjoy is stuff like Golden Shower (www.goldenshower.gs). Their songs are available for free from their site, and they've got a couple of cool animated music videos, too. The music is done by a guy from Brazil who uses a Mac. : ) I recommend "New York Groove", "Sonido Electronico", and "Video Computer System". The latter track is composed entirely of samples from an Atari 2600. It's an enjoyable piece, too. Anyhow, I tend to prefer more "musical" techno over stuff like "dance" where there's little more than a beat. The more complicated and layered the music, the more I enjoy it. It's the same reason that I enjoy classical so much. That reminds me. Hit www.vgmix.com and search for songs by a guy who calls himself Void. He remixes tracks from really obscure old Japanese games that nobody's ever heard of. Virtually every remix he's done is just gorgeous. Give 'em a listen. : ) Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Precious_Roy on July 08, 2002, 11:47:54 pm I saw Paul Oakenfold live, and he was awesome. Of course, so was the artist right before him... Eminem!
And Lothario... be careful when you start spouting things like "ejo is the devil." There are certain things that are sacred among my cohorts and me, and that is one of them... ::glares with much menace:: Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Ace on July 09, 2002, 12:10:09 am AFI IS THE GREATEST BAND ALIVE!!! PS - COUNTRY AND RAP ARE TEH DEVIL! Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Bondo on July 09, 2002, 12:34:49 am My favorites are

Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: theN00b on July 09, 2002, 01:04:43 am I gotta chime in here too. I ussually play 1812 overture when playing RS or maybe some Wagner. My favorite band of all time would have to be Godsmack. Some other favorites are Hendrix Kiss Red hot Chile Peppers. I also like love Nsync they are like so cool oh my god. Of coarse I jk. Heheh I hope they burn in hell. Brittiny Spears is ok, but what does her music sound like?

AFI is great, but I don't hold them as high as Nirvana was or Pennywise is now...for those who dont know, Pennywise is an awesome punk band located in my hometown (hermosa beach, CA) I too like the above listed music that Ace posted Quote You like dick, don't you? oh God, LMAO. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: †FiRE Infection on July 09, 2002, 01:20:44 am Quote You like dick, don't you? LoL how random and uncalled for. I don't like how music has to be the thing that shapes who you are as a person. ?If you listen to some rap and you're white all the stupid people who are obsessed with rock make fun of you and call you a wigger and shit. ?That is bullshit. ?It's just a type of music. ?If you only listen to hard rock all the black people and white people that don't like it will make fun of you for that. ?It's also like if you listen to rap you have to wear headbands and if you listen to rock you have to wear baggy jeans and dress dark. ?That is bullshit and I don't like it. ?It's just music and I like a little of everything. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Ace on July 09, 2002, 01:29:33 am You definitely cannot go wrong with Pennywise or Nirvana. However, have you ever seen AFI live? That's what got me hooked on them in the first place. They are by far the best band I have ever seen live. Speaking of live shows, STP and The Living End are also excellent live. Pennywise was very good live, just a very small, small notch below the two I mentioned. Unfortunately I was really too young to ever see Nirvana live; I bet they kicked ass.
Infection, that was not random and uncalled for. For fuck's sake, how PC is our world where you can't rip on people for liking N 'Sync and the Spice Girls. I don't care what ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation you are, if you like shit like pop, country, or rap, I will make many jokes at your expense. It's like the old saying: "I'm don't discriminate, I hate everyone." PS - You are the one who stereotyped black people as only listening to rap and the majority of whites listening to rock. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: †FiRE Infection on July 09, 2002, 01:34:47 am I think Bondo may have been kidding about that. ?I was laughing at you anyway Ace I found it funny, I didn't think you were being that serious or you were taking Bondo seriously. ?But you have no right to make fun of people for likeing rap or country. ?Go ahead and curse at them like you've just done but don't make fun of them. Are you not saying that steryotype is mainly true though? I mean as for majorities most Black people only like rap. White like several things. I'm just saying how it happens and people make fun of you for different reasons. That's unfair that people who like rap can't be friends with someone who likes rock. Wouldn't you agree with that?
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Bondo on July 09, 2002, 01:38:25 am Hell, it was fine for Ace to do his joke, I mean, I use the name Flamin' Bisexual in GR often, I'm asking for it and Ace was joking, he wasn't really using it as an insult (which I'd just find unacceptable and stuff).
On the other hand Cossack crossed the line much saying NSYNC should burn in hell, that is just wrong. ?Despite what you might think, some of the members of NSYNC and some of the members of the Spice Girls actually have talent and write their own songs. ?If you want to criticize a group do so to the talentless Backstreet Boys whose music truly does suck. And no Infection, I was in no way kidding, I truly listen to and enjoy NSYNC and the others. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Ace on July 09, 2002, 01:38:54 am Actually Infection he seriously likes those bands unfortunately. I have plenty of right to make fun of people who like those types of music. Why? Because I like rock, and rock is better. Duh.
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Bondo on July 09, 2002, 01:46:15 am Ok, here we go...
For NSYNC I have NSYNC No Strings Attached Celebrity Madison Square Gardens DVD For Spice Girls I have Spice Spiceworld Goodbye Forever Mel C's solo album Northern Star Emma's solo album Spice World the movie on VHS and DVD For Andrew Lloyd Webber I have Cats two disc CD and DVD Jesus Christ Superstar two disc CD and DVD To add one, Boys II men Both versions of CooleyHighHarmony Both normal and remix of II Evolution Their forth CD Speaking of which, I like Moulin Rogue a lot and have that on DVD...didn't get the soundtrack though *cough Limewire cough* I won't go into the others because they are actually respectable I figure. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Ace on July 09, 2002, 01:47:49 am I wrote my response while Bondo wrote his. While NSync should not burn in Hell hell, they definitely should burn in bad music hell. They have no talent. To believe otherwise is to believe that there is a reason to listen to Britney Spears videos rather than watching them on mute. BTW, I meant everything I said earlier seriously.
On a totally different note, FUCKING GODDAMN SON OF A FUCKING SON OF A BITCH!!! I JUST FOUND OUT AFI WILL BE PLAYING THEIR ONLY DATE OF WARPED TOUR IN FUCKING LA ON FUCKING THURSDAY WHEN I'M FUCKING WORKING AND THIS FUCKING BLOWS ASS. I must find a way to get down to LA. I almost don't care if I lose my job, but I want to go see AFI sooooooooooooooooooo bad. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Bondo on July 09, 2002, 01:52:37 am Ace, don't be jelous of NSYNC just because you can't sing as high as they (and I) can. Also, they do write most of their songs (remember, I know much more about them then you do) so don't slight their talent.
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Jeb on July 09, 2002, 01:54:51 am I have a 10 year old brother who likes N'sync, and he also plays nintendo...
scary ain't it bondo ;D and loth, i know what you mean about shitty moby songs, i wouldn't call all trance "dance music" however you can dance to it. I guess i'm thinking of club music, with alot of female vocals, but yeah, just pm me on aim sometime, and i'll hook you up with the good shit Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Bondo on July 09, 2002, 02:12:32 am Well, I would say that I think I'd like your brother but that would likely be borderline illegal ;)
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: ?(uNt???SsSt.qc on July 09, 2002, 02:13:49 am hmmm RS playing music would have to be Fu Manchu, Bongzilla or Zerocharisma...all these bands have mp3s available for download at www.stonerrock.com and there are many more bands on that site...
for relaxing I put in some classical or a bit of loungy music... I also love good electronica.. I dont like anything that you could hear on a radio station, cept for college radio...even there its iffy... BOWIE IS GOD!!! you will NEVER find me listening to rap or any of that bellyaching r&b and definately no country!!! Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Jeb on July 09, 2002, 02:56:56 am haha bondo,
Trance music is good for long games of sniper wars, or camping matches. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: WeaSelFlinK on July 09, 2002, 07:20:03 am Basically, I'm an all-rounder. I listen to all kinds of music varying from classical to rap. (More rap than classical, but you get the point...).
Just to quote an example, you guys ever heard of Incubus? Take a wild guess. Anyhow, to tell you the truth, I never even had a single clue they existed until I heard one of their songs; namely 'drive'... it's my favorite song among others. You see, it's not the people in the band we're after... it's the music itself. That's basically it. -Beefy, tired. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Brain on July 09, 2002, 08:42:31 am yea, same here beefy
only differeence is that i refuse to listen to rap. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Wombat on July 09, 2002, 10:46:57 am I listen to Rock to do almost everything. Hard exciting rock for rogue spear. But if i want to get relaxed i'll listen to jazz or a band like radiohead.
Title: NSYNC? Post by: Wombat on July 09, 2002, 10:50:09 am Bondo, what the fuck are you talking about. Yeah they can sing who the fuck cares. They write their own songs, BUT THEY ARE HORRIBLE AND ALL THE SAME. My ass could right better. They are designed to make money and that is their only purpose. Liking them is only further promoting pop culture and shitty music.
Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: Brain on July 09, 2002, 11:14:09 am Quote Ace, don't be jelous of NSYNC just because you can't sing as high as they (and I) can. i wonder how nany times bondo has been kicked in the nuts in order to sing that high. Title: Re: The great music debate Post by: MacMan on July 09, 2002, 11:48:49 am hmm, seems i'm very odd, i was (*cries*) a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins.
I still listen to very much different music, the only things i cant stand are Techno/trance/dance, and popular pop (britney spears, etc.) the bands i like (among others, not exclusively, and alphabetically): Black Rebel Motorcycle club, Blur, Eminem, Faithless, Guns 'n Roses, Korn, K's Choice, Lenny Kravitz, Limp Bizkit, Manu Chao, Metallica, Moby ?(;D), ?Muse, Nine Inch Nails, Nirvana, Queen, REM, Radiohead, Rammstein (currently fan), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Soulfly, System of a Down, The bloodhound gang, the Cranberries, The Offspring, Weird al Yankovic. theres more, and there are several tracks of artists i dont usually like, that sound good. But i might make my post too long ?:o Note: all opinions in this post are purely subjective, and no rights may be derived from it. Copyright and All rights reserved, 2002, the author. Anyway.... When I study, classical. Best CD for long trips in the car...... Soundtrack to Conan the Barbarian. Hands down. But not on the freeway... back roads with corners.... trust me. For the freeway it's usually books on CD for me. Let's see what's in my CD case.... Lots of Barenaked Ladies.... everything ever put out by Toad the Wet Sprocket..... Sarah McLachlan.... Live.... REM.... Counting Crows.... Peter Gabreal.... Queen... Madness.... Mighty Mighty Bosstones.... The Waltons.... The English Beat (yes, I like Ska)... Sublime.... Leonard Cohen.... oh... and some new age classical stuff by Christopher Franke (he was in Tangarine Dream and also did the soundtracks for Babylon 5). For RS... any Ska will do. It moves fast and gives me a beat. For chilling on the back deck... anything from Toad to James Taylor... just mellow stuff. Ahh, musical ability. It makes a band so... musical. I like ska, too. Bosstones (their older stuff) and Reel Big Fish (their older stuff) and the Aquabats ('cause I really enjoy songs about midget pirates). Whoever mentioned Incubus as a good band, you must make a clarification. There are actually two bands called Incubus. The first band called Incubus made great albums. Then they became sold out whores who in no way resembled the original band, thus the Incubus that most people know today. The newer classics (of course again): Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, Sublime, Metallica, R.E.M. But recently i have found something NEW! and DIFFERENT!, sort of. Pop Punk, essentially. The Ataris, New Found Glory(best live band I've seen), Saves the day, the get Up Kids, Good Charlotte, Millencolin, the Movielife, Piebald. Good Stuff that. And Lothario: Those people yelling at that player were, without a doubt, jn.blackhand, jn.preciousroy, and/or jn.wrath. I am truly proud to have influenced way back when.
