That's really weird. I dl'ed it with no problems, NP in the install either. I think I have a very late beta maybe, but I'm pretty sure it's the same file, and all my stuff is intact...

I just could not open my copy. We in the SWAT community are having Virus troubles of our own. I don't known if that is the problem here though. i could not open it with Winzip. I d/led from links provided here. Don't know if it's the same copy. I do viral scans of everything I d/led, and so far nothing. However, I'm no virus expert. Please keep me posted.

???
Coco informed us about your problems...the mod was packaged by mouseborg who is a computer consultant. A big part of his work is fixing clients computers affected by viruses...if there is a bug...he will find it!

We have downloaded the file from all links, scanned it and installed it with no problems.

Paladin emailed me bout the bad file...a few ppl had that happen initially when downloading from our very slow server...this was due to multiple timeouts and resumes thus corrupting the file.

*Damn Mauti
There was been over 400 d/l at Pies, geocities and Sigdam, and so far u are the only one that had this problem. It is likely you already had a virus and the payload just happened to go live after the st6 download. The most likely candidate is the code red worm designed to activate Aug 1. http://www.wired.com/news/technology/0,1282,45732,00.html

cake
The install is a standard click team installer using the registry key to find the RS folder...this technique is used in many mods already and we have not heard any problems. The ST6 mod only installs into its own folder in the mod folder.

The guys @WAR have downloaded the file from all the mirrors and scanned and installed them again. We all have HK dtd weapons in our mods folder. I wish i could tell you what your problems were but we have not been able to duplicate both these problems.

Well isn't it great that I am the only victim of a virus hehe! Maybe I had the virus already installed I don't know ! -  I only use my Virtual PC for converting mods to the Mac so I only have installer exe on it hmmm, lol. However I will have my reinstall finished in 15 minutes and then I will redownload your mod and then we will see hehe ?8)

I have also Downloaded and scanned and Re-scanned and nothing. Uninstalled ST6 and reinstall, no problems what-so ever...HK DTD 2.1 installed and used daily! ;) I think the bad file(s) has to do with the server problems we are expierincing, with it timing out and would defintily cause corrupt files..
We are very sorry for the server timing out, and can garuantee it is BUG-FREE, for the one person who had MAJOR troubles, must of been something underlying for sure... Can you scan ST6.zip for us???
We are very concerned with these accusations...and have done everything on our part to insure it is bug-free, downloaded from all "mirrors" and scanned and checked..
Let me know what you find out
email Stormasp@yahoo.com or by ICQ  93399634
Thanks Storm

The ST6 Map mod is okay. If upload it properly. it self-extracts it to it's own folder. When you finish uploading the ST6 Map mod, check to see if it's in the mods folder and it should be named ST6 in the Rouge spear mods folder.

As for Playing ST6 on MP, make sure you have the ST6 Mod loaded and it show's up in the multi player main screen. If you don't that is the source of the problems. The PAU clan did first encounter it, but then we loaded the mod in the main multi player screen and after that, we played the game.
When you play the ST6 map mod, make sure you go through the walk thru first before you play the St6 map mod with tangos.

If ya have any questions, feel free to ICQ me @ 10020878 ::).

Title: ST6 MOd didn't cause the Windows ME delete!
Post by: *DAMN Mauti on August 01, 2001, 05:36:07 pm
Well I reinstalled Windows ME and the ST6 mod and yeah it seems that unfortunaly I activated a Virus when I tried to install the mod. Sorry for all the problems but for me it seemed to be your mod and as Mac user I never got in touch with viruses before. So all guys download the mod it is virus free!!!  ;)

hey Mauti,
i've been reading about code red and i find it impossible or at least very unlikely you've been hit by it, as it only affects NT and 2000, not ME. i've got ME and i dont think i've gut it (GULP :o)

also, you definately ARE NOT the only one, as this version of the worm attacked on July 19th, hitting 325,00 servers, about 2,000 computers a minute in about 14 hours (got that from an article in yahoo). today, it hit the pentagon, actually.

again, found all this on yahoo's news articles if you want to do the research.

Yeah I am really sorry that I kept you busy with this virus I only wanted to protect other user for this really bad delete everything virus. Well actually I played half an hour your map and I must say it really rocks yeah and I can't await to play it in multiplayer. Congrats this map offers so many ways and tactics unbelievable hehe. Maybe you could have used more textures but so it will work very well in multiplayer. Well I wanna play more of this DAMN hard missions so keep up the good work and sorry again for the probs I caused I also sent PieFoo an email that everything is ok.

Bye,

Mauti

Title: Textures
Post by: Akira_Au on August 01, 2001, 06:44:32 pm
Yeah, i was afraid to add a lot of textures to a large map - it was goona lag like something severe so we haad 2 balance between playability and looks. Same reason why the hills and slopes arent more curved or bumpy. This would have added a whole heap of polygons to the map which we couldnt afford. Hopefully it'll play well, u should try underwater sniping against someone sniping up the hill...its pretty cool.

"i've been reading about code red and i find it impossible or at least very unlikely you've been hit by it, as it only affects NT and 2000, not ME. i've got ME and i dont think i've gut it (GULP :o)"

Hiyas,

Always keep in mind, where a virus is concerned, that a person having the source code can modify that source to not only change the bugs behavior, but also slide it right past a bug catcher. This is refered to as a different strain of the virus.

Bug catchers work, in general, by comparing internal patterns in a given file to their own list of such 'signatures'. If there is no match, then its not a bug, as far as the bug catcher is concerned (there are exceptions of course for bug catchers that also monitor a files activity.)

With the bug source code, its simple to change this signature. This can even be done via a reverse compile (disassembly), modification, and recompile of a given bug.

So the bug catcher is only as good as its 'signature', or definition list. Its important to keep that as current as possible.

However, proper caution and common sense are always ones best method of avoiding such things, which can sometimes be disastarous. Most of these recent critters are transmitted via email as attachments.

Prevention is simple and obvious. Don't 'run' said attachment. Even if it appears sent by a friend. The friend may also be affected and most bugs are born pregnant and transparently send themselves to others without the infected person even knowing.

If a file is suspicious, and doesn't trigger ur bug catcher, it could still be a bug. The only way to know is either run it (real bad idea), wait for an update to ur bug definition table (hard to tell when that may happen, tho usually its pretty fast), or by manually ripping the thing apart and seeing how it works. I normally use the last method, as its fun and very educational.

If uncomfortable playin with bugs, consult someone who is. Its actually quite safe once one knows which end the 'stinger' is on, especially if you pull their little legs & wings off first. :)

I've been getting a .doc.bat file in several email accounts (earthlink, hotmail) that has a different subject line every time, but the message reads as follows:

Hi! How are you?

I send you this file in order to have your advice

See you later. Thanks

We recieved the file from relatives, business associates, etc. etc.
Subject lines include "your invited 2 a pool party", "747 fuel lines", "new .45 auto". My dad buys and sells airplanes and airplane parts, so he almost opened the "747" one. That went to his email account, but the .45 and pool party ones went to mine. I put the file on my old Pentium 133 and it wiped the hard drive like it was a mixture of bleach and sulfuric acid.

Does anyone know any more about this file?
