Title: My god! What a fishing day!
Post by: Typhy on July 11, 2002, 02:23:28 am
I've had a pretty screwy day, so I figured I would get away form it from it for a while and go hang out with some friends. We went swimming, went to one of their houses ate, watched a movie, then got our fishin' gear together. Headed out to a place called Fish Creek, ( Great fishing place ). Caught over 30 Kings, Kept 8. Biggest one was 38lbs. Trust me, fighting a 38 pound king on 12 pound test line isn't easy. The next chalange was to carry over 150lbs of Salmon, tackle and rods back 2 miles to the road where we got met by the car... took about an hour to walk 2 miles, Used the wood rod that we use as a bat to kill them to hold them on, 6 on that, 1 in each of the carriers hands, one of us got all 4 Bikes, and 1 got the tackle. I was the bike dude, and belive me, trying to get 4 bikes 2 miles alone in the mud is really really hard! Next comes getting into the truck, my friends dad just got a new pickup, and he didn't want us gettin the inside all muddy, so 4 of us had to ride in the back flat bed, with 4 rods, tackle, 8 fish all over 20lbs, and 4 bikes, for 6 miles. Crammed in there with 2 Kings on your lap isn't that easy, and a bike laying on top of the kings, bah!

I've never had a shower that felt better than that.

The biggest one was spotted and was starting to turn a little, however, still a really nice fish, all of the others still look like ones that you'd catch off of the boat.

Actually the 38 one was a lot easier than about a 25 pounder, 'cause with the 25 pounder, I had him snaged in the tain, I had the 38 in the head, It's a lot easier to fight them when you've got the front instead of the back of them

Casper's right for once in his life  ;)

One of the funniest fish things, is I was fishing out at Di pac, there are these tourists there, I catch this King, it's like 15lbs, and it's black, ( you may not know it, the darker the fish, the worse the meat, a black fish tastes really bad ), So I'm like "Ah shit, not I've got to unhook this thing", So I unhook it and toss it back, the tourists are like "Wow! Why'd you throw that back?! It was giant and buityful!" I'm like "It was black", They're like "It was huge!", I guess for some people a 15lbs fish is really big, for us, thats an every fishing day thing.

Bah, I got back from cabo two weeks ago and caught more total weight with one fish that typhy got on his entire trip: a 843lb black marlin...that along with the other 23 yellowfin tunas and 8 mahi-mahi. Approx 1 ton worth of fish in one day out at sea ?:D

How big was it, how old were you, and how long did it take for you to catch it?

How old were you...for some reason I don't believe you about catching a marlin. Marlin fishing requires strength, endurance, and ability...and I am sure you would remember for how long you fought a marlin, they don't jump on to your boat.

We go once a year off of Hilton Head SC SiN... and while we've pulled in bigger hauls of Yellofins and Dolfins (bah... mahi-mahi is for suckers the don't like calling it dolfin).  And we've boated a Blue Marlin or two... but never on the same trip.  The trips we got the Marlins, we got blanked on the Tuna's.

Did they let you keep the Marlin?  They don't in Hilton Head unless it's in a contest.... they are trying to bring the Marlin back.

well...the mexicans call mahi mahi/dolfins "grotto." I couldn't have kept that marlin even if I wanted to because our boat had run out of space after all of the other fish we caught. The black marlin was the last one and we caught him while trawling back to the harbor. Heh, all of the fish coolers and bait tanks were full of fish we had caught and on a 35 ft boat, there was no more room.
