Seriously, the IDf are the only SF team not to utilize the MP5, probably because of it's German origins. I't obviously superior to the UZI, but one thing I do wonder is why not go with a 9mm CAR over the big UZI? Probably cost?

Good and bad news as of May-June 2002:

Good news - the IDF has going to buy the new generation of the Meprolight Mepor 21 reflex sight to be issued to all infantry oriented troops, replacing the old battery powered Elbit Falcon reflex sight, as well as some of the Trijicon Reflex sights which are approaching their radioactive material's half life.

The new generation of the Mepor 21 that will be bought by the IDF.

Bad news - surrendering to political pressure the IDF is also going to buy the new generation of the IMI Micro Tavor, also known as "Tavor 2". This is bad news since like most bullpup designs the Tavor doesn't enable simultaneous usage of both shoulders, not to mention that the new weapon costs several times more then a brand new Flattop M4.

The new generation of the Micro Tavor (Tavor 2) fitted with a Meprolight Mepor 21 reflex sight and an integral suppressor.

Both the Mepor 21 and the Tavor 2 might be made in the U.S., at least partially, in order to allow the IDF to buy the items using the U.S. Foreign Military Support (FMS) funds. Both items are due to enter service from 2003.

its not cuz of the german origins because they  use the ruger and i think thats german its probably because the uzi is already implemented in the idf and if it works well why add another weapon to get used to

Well let's keep in mind that both the UZI and variants of the MP5 have been around since before the 80's, so there would have been plenty of time to assimilate a new weapon into the mix. Besides, they have gone through the Galil's, Tavors, Magals, etc so it would seem they are open to new designs. I think it would take a lot longer to transition comfortably from a standard design to a bullpup weapon than from one standard configuration to another... But most likely it's all about politics. I like to see a Govt. adopting an unconventional type of design, even if it is way overpriced. ;)

Coco - I totally agree. I think the Isreali's should be damn proud of their armaments industry. Ya they do cost more but price shouldn't be the only concern when deciding to adopt a weapons system for the military.

I did the 9mm version last night ;) Warden's 5.56sd model is sweet also, they are both in the mod.

Personally I like the design as a whole. Very cool looking imo. Hopefully it will be an effective and efficient weapon for the IDF.
