A PowerBook G5?  Any updates on this at all?

Yes..... just not yet ;)

New rumored revision of G5 desktops might be sporting the new chip which runs a lot cooler thus removing the need for the expensive and impractical (for a laptop) liquid cooling systems aside from the duel core possibilities...

Its going to happen, just not for a while i guess - especially when the G4 has still got some life in it ;)

No. The G4 will be rebuilt to become 64bit and dual core with a high bus speed... atleast according to freescale road maps...  ::)

Unfortunately BFG, poor freescale and their roadmaps seem so our of reach, with their 167mhz front-side-bus introduced what, 3 years ago? Motorola failed, freescale emerged, and now apparently they are failing too. Their goal was to make the G4 a continuing Generation built to make high performance notebooks. I don't know how high performance 170MHz bumps on a ancient processor with a tiny bus is.
