Maybe this is just sour grapes, but do you notice the bias in the gr.net forums....I don't think there are many other modders out there that have been together as long as the DTD Team, but we do not get recognized for that. Cocobolo is in my mind the best skinner out there yet he receives almost no votes. I see Mac slaving over weapons I slam him with, yet no recognition. In my opinion I do not think anyone out there can match my weapon textures, yet there are people
i have never heard of receiving more votes than me for best misc modder. I guess this is really just a popularity contest....and we are not that popular.  Mac...I think its time for a weapons mod to blow all other out of the water...what do you think?

Yeah it's just a popularity thing Cobra, don't take it personally.I'll bet it's just a bunch of clan mates voting likewise. What you have to look at is the number of downloads each one of the DTD mods has.

Also Coco doesn't really hang around the GR.net forums so he's not really known to the majority of the voters, to their detriment I might add since he is, as you said the best skinner out there.

Here is how to request a weapons texture from me....PM me in the gr.net forums and tell me what weapon you want. I will respond with...Did you vote for me for best misc modder...if not ask Sixpence

Well when I do need one I'll ask, still waiting for Whispers M4. That is a thing of beauty.  ;)

And DTD isn't doing too bad in the running in some of the categories so far. We shall see.  ::sniper::

I was a complete homer and voted DTD across the board where I could - with that said, sorry I missed the linkup for my M4 last night Corba, hopefully I can catch you later for it. Thanksfor making that change too..

Beside that such votes are a popularity contest, I always missed some new maps in your mods. Plenty of fantastic mods and skins but no weapons. What a pity. I think if you would also make a mod with 2 - 3 decent new maps(not retextured), and maybe 2 MP maps, you would blown away any competition.

Regards,

Mauti

Cobra you're such an instigator, lol.

These things are almost all internal contests I think. i don't have any bad blood with anyone over there, but it's true I don't really hang around there too much. last time I posted was when, once again, ppl started bitching about SOAF maps in mods. Seems like a younger crowd now. Maybe we're just spoiled by the RS world we came from, lol

I do get plenty of requests from modders on that forum to use things/guns/characters, etc. PPL like Sgt. croc, El Oso, etc always gave us props, those are the guys on our level. I don't think too much about criticism from guys who have only made one or two mods, which happen to have become popular. Most of the good mods consist of a large team of good modders. We're a small team, of really good modders, and everything we put out is total quality. Many emulate what we do and get more credit for it than we originally did! I think that's the funniest thing, imitation is the highest form of flattery right?LOL

Remember Nishi? Back when he was modding RS, he was never in any forums or anything but everybody knew his work was excellent. I was a fan when I started modding, I submitted like 50 requests for an M635 in the submission page he had up. I was souped when he built it! Remember there's plenty of silent fans out there that don't post on forums, they just play the mods and enjoy them.

Like I said all you have to do is look at the number of downloads. And since I do frequent the GR.net forums I have noticed a ton of praise for the DTD mods, especially NED. Can't wait for the update myself.  :)

I QUIT!!!! Not really....Coco I thought you fell off the face of the earth. Maybe we can talk you into a couple of skins for the SCAR mod. What ya think?

I don't think that was really Coco, someone must have stolen his userid/pass - better make me an admin so I can look into it ;)

LOL, nice banner Cobra.

And I'd love to see Coco's skins in this mod, plus NED 1.5 for that matter.

Why don't you guys do a DTD Forums Best of Polls?  ;D

I shouldn't worry about it too much, Cobra. The awards are not really good representation of the whole community. for example last year i won my award with only 28 votes out of 4000 members.

I think by now everyone who plays Ghost Recon will have tried at least one of the DTD mods and knows everyone is of the highest quality seen in the game since its release. And if i remember correctly you guys have been the only ones ever to be mentioned in a game-magazine.

On a personal level, DTD was one of the reasons i bought GR after you stopped making mods for Rainbow Six and i look forward to your new mods, hopefully for Ghost Recon 2 otherwise i might have to start working harder to be able to afford a copy of VBS1 if you guys start modding for it.

You always will have my vote!

Guess we got a few jokers here eh? lol
Working too damn much lately, but I'm snowed in right now so...
Cobra, I love that banner!!
Swartsz, What you wrote there was really cool bud, makes me think about the old days. You're no slouch yourself, you do excellent work!
I agree with you though, I know there's a ton of ppl that just Dl and play mods, and never bother to sign up for a forum or anything. I was like that before I started modding, and I DL'ed every mod I could get.

Should we have our own awards? Sure if you guys want to. Just post the categories and have ppl list their votes, then take the finalists and make a poll?

ah...yes the old days....i wish i knew how to mod back in those days but had a lot of fun ( well almost 4 years of fun ) with those excellent mods like US TAC, ITD and mods from others like Sputnik Satellite and ToTT.

In all honestly, regard you as the best modding team i ever came across with that enormous flow of top quality mods, nothing like i ever seen before. I can only dream of having such a team around me to work with me on all those mod-ideas i am having lately.

Your own awards, sounds like a great idea to me, let the people vote on the best DTD mod/weapon/character. It may also get you guys a bit more in the spotlight so people do not forget who are making all those mods for them. A little PR can never hurt... ;D

LOL, yeah, that's the difference between now and then. Back then we did a lot more PR, and were hooked up with a lot more news sites than we are now. So what are you working on nowadays?

Title: Re: Ghost Recon.net Modding Awards
Post by: swartsz on January 23, 2005, 04:52:59 pm
right now i am working on some models for the 5SFG mod and i am developing a new mod-project about the S.O.E. the model in my sig is one of the models for the S.O.E. project, but i am still in doubt on what engine/game to use for it.

S.O.E = Special Operations Executive, Britains WWII intelligence service. For those that might be wondering what the acronym was.  ;)

yes they did Intelligence work but i am focusing more on the sabotage/fighting behind enemy lines missions they preformed in WWII
