Title: Howd u get your Fav Icon looking so sexy?!
Post by: BFG on February 09, 2005, 11:33:46 am
Allrighty its another plea for help thread! Im still toddling along my merry way with my site working on some graphic (the .php was going to kill me) and thought id better just make a quick fav icon of the site logo... but oh god does it look ugly hell im not a great fan of 16x16 size images, and im certainly no  pixel artist (hmm anybody) but when i size this image down (from illustrator) it looks well shit. And its a pretty simple image (silhouette of half a butterfly) ... whats the trick because - well mauti the *DAMN fav icon looks bloody clear compared with what ive managed - and it looks a hell of a lot more complex!

ty in advance ;)

The secret is quite simple: png! Don't mess around with gifs - do it with a png ;-)

Is that the trick, great. I have been creating some shitty favicons myself. Thanks Mauti

i had allways believed they needed to be .gifs ... don't ask why but somewhere i had it embedded in my brain that .gif was the only option (then naming as .ico )  .. does MS not have any issues with .png because ive had problems in the past.

You can also use .ico - the Internet Explorer can't read the transparency of the png files - so e.g. the BL site doesn't look that good, you just see black backgrounds. But FireFox can do png and at all IE is so outdated...

However yes Nomad that's the trick!
