? ? This is the home of all updates and info regarding the International Rogue Spear League (IRSL).

    What's new   (Aug 7) Added a section on team names, at the bottom of this post.

? ? What is the IRSL? ? The IRSL is an independent league which is not affiliated with the *DAMN Battle League in any way. The IRSL is modeled after professional sports leagues: it is based around teams rather than clans, and has trades and a draft.

? ? Does this mean that I have to leave my clan? ? No, absolutely not, nothing could be further from the truth. The IRSL is wholly unrelated to the *DAMN Battle League. You don't have to leave your clan. At the same time, your clan affiliation (if any) has no bearing on who you will be teamed with in the IRSL. When playing in the IRSL, you are not playing for your clan.

? ? Does playing in the IRSL bar me from playing in the *DAMN 1v1 or clan tournaments? ? Nope.

? ? How many teams will there be? ? At the time of this writing, we have 45 players. We will have nine teams of five. More is always better, though, so tell your friends! : ) However, signups will be cut off early at 50 people.

? ? When is all this happening? ? Signups for the 1st IRSL season are taking place right now. The last day to sign up is August 14th.

? ? The draft will take place three days later, on Saturday, August 17th. The delay between the end of signups and the draft is so that the team captains may play with the players they do not know, in order to be better-informed for the draft.

? ? The season runs the duration of September: opening day is September 1st, and the end of the season is September 30th.

? ? Okay, fine fine. What's actually involved? ? Each team will play a game with each other team. Games are not scheduled ahead of time. All games must simply be finished by the end of the season. The winning team is the team with the most points at the end of the season. The standard *DAMN Battle League rules are used during the games.

? ? Explain the points system. ? A win is worth 3 points. A tie or loss in overtime is worth 1 point. A loss is worth zero points. If a game is not played by the end of the season, both teams receive a loss for that game. Note that a tie only occurs if agreed upon by both teams.

? ? What's all this jibber-jabber about trades? ? The exact process of trading players has yet to be worked out. It will probably be conducted through this forum and it will be mediated by the IRSL admins (Bondo, Brain, and myself). The purpose of such mediation is primarily to avoid collusion; that is, we want to avoid clans reforming in the IRSL. Brain and I are playing in the IRSL, so we will be barred from mediating if our own teams are involved. Uneven trades are allowed, but a team must be composed of at least three players before and after any trade. Any trade is allowed (subject to mediation) as long as both involved teams agree to it.

? ? What do the team captains do? ? The team captain is assigned to their team before the draft, in order to have a spokesman for the purpose of the draft. The captain will be responsible for being present during the draft on August 17th, and will draft players to his team. After the draft, the role of the captain is up to each individual team.

? ? Hey, sounds great! How do I become a captain? ? Contact Bondo either through this forum (Bondo) or on GameRanger (*DAMN Bondo) and let him know that you wish to be a captain. If we have more potential captains than we have openings for captains, there will be a vote conducted through this forum to decide who the captains are.

? ? Any other details? ? Each player in the League must play in at least two games during the course of the season, and must play in at least one game with each team they are traded to. We want everyone to have a chance to play.

    What will the teams be named?   The team names are up to the captains, and they will be decided upon after the captains are finalized. After the draft, each team may change its name once. The limit on name changes is to avoid confusion from multiple name changes during a season.

if we could get some donated web space that would be great.

I would do some of my own predictions of draft picks, but instead i'll stick with some general suggestions(since i havent played a whole lot with all of the canidates)
I would take a hard look at members of the top 5 or 10 clans in the bl who have voulenteered for the IRSL.  They arent on top for nothing. KoS and Virus members are good bets along with people from AK and -|U|-

Remember that team work plays a large part as well. Just because these are the top 4 clans doesnt neccessarly mean that all their players are going to be RS superstars.  3 good players can decimate a team made up of a RS god and 2 total noobs

Watches as Loth drafts himself in the first round...and second round...and third...and fourth.

Note that there will be restrictions from drafting members of the same clan. ?We strictly want to avoid having the clans reform in any way as it defeats the purpose. ?Also something that we added to the rules late, every member of the team has to play in 2 CBs minimum and at least 1 on their current team if traded.

     As you know of course, and the start of the IRSL talks, I was very negitive and against the idea, I thought that it would ruin respected clans etc. Also, I didn't like the idea of the Battle League being stoped for it. However, with the other tornaments going on, ( 1v1 and Clan ), I decided that it was kinda a cool idea to try out, that is why I have now joined and applied for a captian posistion. This will be starting in under a month now, I would like to work out how it will all work soon so that we can start getting rid of the problems ASAP. 10 teams, each with 5 people. My proposed system for how this should work goes as followed:

Draft picks: Each one of the 10 team captians will get 5 draft picks. - With these picks they should pick players who are the best, not in order of who their friends are, if we have captians just picking their friends, then there are going to be several really weak clans. To make the league as competitive as possible, clans should be picked fairly. To help out with this, I will go through all of the players and do a scouting report on them, seeing as I've played for over a year, so I've seen everyone play. This should help people in knowing who to pick. Once drafted, a player will have to agree to play for the clan who they are drafted with, or will have to leave the league, and face other punishments.

Trades: Each team is required to have at least 4 players. - This leaves room to trade 2 people for 1, etc. But makes sure that a clan doesn't trade all of their players away for one player. To make a trade happen, over %50 of the clan must agree to it, this way, we don't have leaders trading away people to get their friends along side them, when their friends may not be as good as who was traded. So, for a 5 person team, 3 must agree to it, for a 4 person clan, 3 people must agree to it, etc.

Team names: Yes, perhaps lame, but it will be an issue, what the teams are named. The team names should be agreed upon by the league staff before the league starts, this way there are no fights between clan members over this. Names such as Cunt, *NADS and things like that ( Just examples ) should be avoided. Clans names either like AK or KoS, that sort of style, or SWAT, FBI, CIA style.

Clan battles: For the regular season, a clan battle may be done any way, 2v2, 3v3 etc. For the tornament, all battles should be 3v3.

Regular season: Each clan should have to do an 8 battle season, in this time they may clan battle any of the clans. The limit is 2 cbs against 1 clan. This will work our Ranks: 1 vs 10,   2 vs 9,   3 vs 8,   4 vs 7, 5 vs 6.

Also, I don't think that there should be rules against drafting people from your own clan. - This should be seperate from the rest, but, if the player is avalible, then it's the captians right to take him, it should go with taking who is the best though, not taking who you like best.


In my opinion, this should be part of the battle league, but also independent, perhaps contact Deadeye and try and get space from Macclans.com

This is my idea for how this system should be run, please post what you think.

and another idea, why not have a theme to the team names... like beer lables and things like that
"team old E, Team heineken, Team guiness, team coors" for example, it doesn't have to be beer names, but you get the idea.

oh and i don't want to be a captin, cause to many people want me to pick them if i was the leader, i'll just go for the luck of the draw. it would be really interesting battling beside rapid on a team. i think it would be a fun idea.

Ok, Typhy i hardly ever play with you (only played against you once in a cb ?k vs +Stfu+ i was with casper and we tied you had myst on your team. Casper really sux. Just refreshing your memory ;))

With the quote above, you can't go directly by that some of the good players aren't in the top clans (though may have once been  :(  <(----me) Most of the good players are but, Xoclipse, Robert, Capt. Anarchy and I are all not . Therefore, you can't just go by top clans.

well, the one thing that we havent discussed in detail was team names.

i was oint to say that the captains were responsible for comming up with the team name for the draft. all existing clan names would be off limits.

if the name really sucked, then the team could vote to  change it at any time.

Brain, I have to disagree with you there, the reason for that is clans like (unt and *NADS, I know at least 3 people, when they asked what clan to join, and I recomended (unt, they said that they didn't like the name, personaly, I think that we sould name clans after the security services from countries, MI5, CIA, FBI etc.

I agree with Brain, captains have naming rights (with exceptions to what is allowed possibly) and that there will be no set theme.  But perhaps for team names try not to have the team name be like a clan name (acronym) but rather have it be a bit like a sports team name...location (real or fictional) and mascot.

? ? I won't need to draft myself, Bondo, since I'll already be on my team. ?;D

    The team names are up to the captains, and can be changed once after the season begins if the players don't like it. The reason for the limit on name changes is to cut down on confusion caused by teams changing their names repeatedly. I doubt it'll be a problem, but we might as well make sure that it's not, right?

I just noticed that alot of people i know haven't heard about IRSL despite Loth's constant posting of the web page. They also don't want to because it will take too much of their time. Try talking to people individually, instead of going "mass media." (just a suggestion)

Also, here is a question for you douchebags: Who the hell picks first? In order for you to get a fair result, no one who is participating in the league can make this decision because it wouldnt be fair.

For example, *DAMN runs it's own BL and participates in it, but it has checks and balances in the form of non-*DAMN mods (except Bondo who can be overruled if he ever tried something fishy [which he probably wouldnt]). Your new league would have to have someone who is completely netural make the selections for draft order or else you will have people crying foul. (Sorry, I dont consider Bondo neutral since he is working with two people who will be participating in the league.)

This league sounds great, and the reason it sounds great is b/c it is being orginized properly.

I can volunteer my 10MB webspace. I can do the webpage too. It won't be a ".com" addy, but it will do the job for the month.

Tell me if u want me to make the webpage for this Loth.

Sin, I figure random drawing for draft position is fair.  And I'll be doing that sort of thing as the unaffiliated admin.

Alright, you all claim that it is going to be random, but how will it be random? Someone still has to devise the system...it isnt like you can put all of the captains in a room and pick numbers out of a hat.

Bondo - (If you are the one performing the "random" draft lottery) You do realize that if either Brain or Lothario get a high draft pick, almost everyone will start crying foul, dont you?

There is no easy way to do this, and I hope that all of you see that this can go wrong in so many different ways.

Is it just me, or is (Ass)sassin the most negative person on this thread.

Look, if the draft is going to be random Ass, it's going to be random. I cannot see Loth or even Bondo (who were all keeping an eye on..lol) doing anything unfairly, or to thier advantage. I totally trust these 2 guys in doing a STRICT out of the hat type of draw for the teams. If there are major players on one team, It was b/c they were picked that way, not b/c there is corruption. Geez it's only for a month, and remember there is no Rapid Retardo in these games, so no one will really bitch (i'm hoping Typhy does not!!!!..;P)

Let the draft take place b4 you shoot it down in flames while it sits on the runway.

What is wrong with picking numbers out of a hat?  In what way is that not random.  And besides, first pick isn't that much of advantage because then you also get 20th pick.  Seeing as the captains aren't necessarily first round pick types it isn't like getting the best player would make a great team.

And Brain...I currently have you down as a Captain although you will be replaced if we get more than enough captain candidates.

i really don't think there will be corruption, cause i think everyone wants to play with a diff group of people. i mean, rapid pisses me off alot, but it would be interesting to play on his team in cbs.
This little league seems like excapism from the normal day to day RS playing, and thats why i think it will work.

    The posted "hot draft prospects" are my opinion and the opinions of five other people. I asked various people (that is, not just KoS members) to make a list of the top twenty people who have signed up for the IRSL, and then I tallied votes. The people who recieved the most votes were the people I mentioned in the list. I am also continuing to take votes on this matter to refine the list.

    Besides which, the list was posted for the benefit of potential captains who have not played with many of the players in the IRSL. Lack of knowledge of the players should not doom a captain to building a weak team. The list was not intended as any sort of a serious ranking or anything. It is merely data for the captains and something which provides more of a sports-league feel for the people involved.

    We are still hoping to get more than ten potential captains so that there will be a choice. Some of the captain candidates may not become captains. Placing the captains in the draft choices seemed a sensible thing to do.     Bondo is handling the random selection. I trust him to do it fairly, and so do many other people.

    With regard to Assassin's charges of potential high-level cheating and other assorted despicableness on my part, I am simply hoping that enough people have a positive opinion of my morals to be confident that I would not cheat my friends and colleagues for personal gain.

    In response to the offers of webspace and HTML monkeying, thanks a lot.  :D Right now, though, we're just going to run the IRSL through this forum. It's simpler, easier, and it's a well-known place. Next season, we're hoping to make the IRSL bigger and better, and then we will probably build a web site to house it. So anybody who's still willing in a few months, we'll take you up on your offer. : )

It will turn out fine, and names out of a hat are perfect.

And in regards to who picks first, i say draw the captians names out of a hat too.

I think that it was smart for Loth to post the top draft picks. It gives the capitains a good look at who his fellow Rs'er feel are good. I think that just adds to the excitement. And like Loth mentioned, it gives the captains a little help with ppl they have never played with.

I write names of captains on pieces of paper...stick said pieces of paper into hat...one by one draw papers randomly from hat...draft order is order I draw them out.

    Draft news:

    The draft is beginning earlier than scheduled in order to give the teams more time to play together before the season. The draft will begin this weekend.

    At present, the list of captains is as follows: Ben, Yoda, Mattster, Wombat, Capt. Anarchy, FarmerJeb, myself, Typhy, Brain, Geek USA. IF YOU WANT TO BE A CAPTAIN, LET BONDO KNOW ASAP! The list of captains will be finalized no later than Saturday evening.

    The order of picks will be chosen randomly by Bondo before the draft begins and it will be posted tomorrow in the draft thread which Bondo will create.

    The draft will be a list draft. Each captain will submit to Bondo a list of his top ten picks for the round. When your turn comes up, you get the top choice of yours who is available. There will be one round a day until the draft is completed. The draft will last four rounds until all forty players are drafted. The deadline for the first round draft submissions is Sunday evening. All current and potential captains should begin choosing their draft picks.

    DO NOT POST YOUR DRAFT PICKS! PM them to Bondo through the forum.

As of now there are a couple of captains who have said that they will if they need to but would rather not, so everyone is still encouraged to put their name up for consideration so that these captains do not have to be so.

A further reminder, we ask that you do not pick clanmates to be on your team...the whole purpose of this is to be on a team with people from other clans and the reformation of the clans here would dampen that.  If members of your clan are left in the 3rd and 4th round, feel free to pick them, but I do not wish to see it in the first two.

Ok Kilzo, you will take Brain's place on the Captain's list.

And to clerify as there have been some questions, you don't send me your 1 pick.

Please send me your top 10 picks for each round, not your top 1.  The way a list draft works is I put the lists in order of the draft and then take the top choice available on each list.  The first pick will get #1 on their list and the tenth pick could as well, but assuming everyone had identical lists, the tenth pick would get the #10th player on the list.  So please send me lists at least equal to where you are picking.  To help out, here is the pick order for the first round (second round will be same but the person listed 10th will pick first 9th will pick 2nd and so forth.

First Round Draft Order
1.  Geek USA
2. Capt. Anarchy
3. Typhy
4. Kilzo
5. Wombat
6. Yoda
7. Farmer Jeb
8. Mr. Lothario
9. Ben
10. Mattster

Second Round
(Reverse of Round 1)
Third Round
(Same as Round 2)
Fourth Round (Same as Round 1)

Lists are due on Sunday night and then nightly.

Captains cant  make their lists all at one time, that is 1st, 2nd and so on, because people they want for the second round may be drafted in the 1st. They have to make each of their lists the day after the draft of the round preceding that of the round they make the list for. (wow thats confusing)

I think Bondo wanted you guys to make lists like fantasy sports...you rank the players 1-30 (10 capt's already chosen) and they are auto selected for you via proxy selection...so the highest ranked person on your list gets chosen.

Which gets me thinking...you need 50 ppl for this tourney or the selection process gets thrown out of whack...the captains wont be choosing themselves in the first round since they are already chosen.

Well, one of my fantasy football leagues does a daily list type like I'm doing here...others do huge lists and do the whole draft off of one...I don't prefer that.

We do have 50 players...10 captains and 40 picks...hence four rounds.

As for me doing a abba style serpintine draft...I feel it works better than the abab style because if the higher draft slots on the a rotation get to go the first round and every other round, they always get a higher pick in an earlier round...but if you do it the abba style then that aspect is evened out and no one gets and advantage.  I'm surprised that more places don't use the abba style as it is better but alas.

Jeb, you said you would be a captain so you are a fucking captain.  Just participate in the draft and then you can handoff your captainship to someone else on your team.

And the list I put wasn't who I think will be drafted...In fact none of those players would make my list (as they can't be drafted being captains ;))  That is the order that people get to draft others in.

Someone said not to pick clan members, Sux to be geek if he can't, he has first draft choice and presumably cannot choose a KoS member. Just wondering if the rule apllies to him or if he is an exception. ;)

Rule applies to him...there are non KoS members that are available for him to draft that are of equivilent talent of the KoS players available.

Seeing as Mattster has the last pick, I'm going to go ahead and have the draft round go and give Mattster the first two picks next round...he was so excited about being a captain that I think he'll get his list sent in.  Go to my newly created IRSL thread in the BL forum for the draft results and the cut down list of players and create another list for the second round (deadline will technically be Monday night but the sooner I get them all the sooner we can move on.

The deadline for the first round is tonight so no one was late submitting it (yet...Mattster).

Okay Mattster, let's go through this step for step for you.

1.) Do you see the linked name "*DAMN Bondo" in the post above you? Click on it.

2.) That will bring you to a screen saying information about him, look for the link that says "Send this member a private messange". Click on that.

3.) Set the subject as "Stupid Mattseter doesn't know how to use a forum" ;) And then type in your list, and hit send.
