Title: R6 community going downhill: revisited.
Post by: Precious_Roy on August 16, 2002, 02:38:22 am
So until this week I hadn't played r6 for 6 months, and not regularly for over a year.  Everyone said the R6 community had declined, the games were poor the skill quality unimpressive.  And I agreed, simply because when I left this is what I saw happening.

But I've played a few times in the last week, and have changed my stance.  Sure the best of the best are gone, kor, JN, and a few others, but I think the second tier players, (where i would put the majority of former SiX, SEALs, POD, SyRuP, and jn) are still thriving.  I think this not just because I'm getting beat often (I attribute that to rustage) but because I truly think skilled players are a dime a dozen.

Today for example I was on a team with Piggy and a bunch of n00bs, against  5 Seals (10 or 11 total).  The game was fun, challenging, and I had the joy of giving Ace a number of spankings.  It was just as good as old times, even though all but 3 (Piggy, Ace, and myself) were either new to their clan (Sniper, Tyreal) or new all together (XXLMan, P.floyd) since I had left.

I think we, myself included, are too critical of the constant influx of n00bs and loss of old vets to realize that the games themselves haven't really changed.

If your computer can run RS, it should be able to run R6.

well, it refuses to run it. When  i try to load a game i get a big black screen and my computer freezes. same thing happens to bigpat, mb i just have a bad copy of it ;).

When I switched to OSX, I pretty much stopped playing R6/RS. I did for a while, but it's just to much of a pain to switch back and forth for one game. I've been playing mohaa recently, I've found it to be a worth substitute until Ghost Recon arrives. I've noticed some of the better players from the R6/RS community have also begun playing mohaa recently.

BTW, I've played GR on a pc and it's AWSOME!!! ? ;D ;D ;D

When i was a noob. R6 was awesome. I first trained in R6 millions of games. I think people dont like R6 now because they Try RS and other new games and they forget about R6.

OS X was certainly the reason I stopped playing...I started again playing in Classic but it gets horrid lag so I can only really play in OS 9.  When I do that I play quite good still and actually it runs incredibly well now that I have hardly any OS 9 stuff on my computer.  In fact I played Ace in a 1v1 a few days ago (a decisive 5-5 tie ;)) but it is just too much of a hassle to switch to OS 9 when I can't be garenteed a good game will be going.  So now I'm pretty much just a MoH player.  But if any of you R6 clans want a CB, I'll restart for that.

My problem with the current situation with newer players is they are too impatient and don't get the value of between game chat and rather just want to rush to the next game...also CSL still gets overplayed by the n00bs...but that has always been the case I suppose.  Anyway...we should really plan a night for all the vets to get on and play R6 all night so that we know there will be some great games.

Hey, how come when people name great clans they never name SBR!  SBR had a strong squad and people never give them any credit.  That pisses me off.  Anyways R6 is dying thats why i left to play RS.  Meh RS will go sooner or later, prolly sooner then R6.

and SAC they were great

yah SBR had good players but i think the reason they didnt get a rep is because they also let shitty players in

hmmm... i see a recurring theme from the os x users out there, clasic lags like a bitch.  i think that when i finaly get my new computer i'll play rs for at least a few months and enjoy playing on something than minimal graphics setting. but i think that i would go towards os x and moh after a while as well.

a question for you moh whores out there. how does that run under x?

mohaa plays better in osx than it does in os9.

make sure you have a good graphics card before turning up the graphics though, I have a geforce3 and still have to turn them down quite a bit!

My graphics card isn't that great and I can still run mohaa on medium detail in os9....I don't think my computer is capable of all the features for osx....it's a 500mhz tibook with the original 8mb card.

do you think a geforce 4 would be good enough for max detail?

Dude Brain, My Radion 32MB is good enough for Max, your Geforce4 will be for sure.

No problem, a Gefore 4 is the best card out there :), God I hate preseason, all that it does it get people hurt. Still, I always want the Pack to win, Let's go Green Bay!

In fact, I never thought the r6 community was dying. People continuously say r6 was dying, and I rejected. They assumed it was denial. The facts of R6 is the vets are leaving it because, in fact, it gets boring when you get good at it. What the point of playing a game when only 1 guy could contend with you. You would never run into that guy anyway. Anyway, yes, the vets are leaving, but a LOOOOOT of noobs come every day. It will never die out really..

P.S. I was in SAC :)
