Post by: WardenMac on August 21, 2004, 10:55:30 pm

It does seem like an awesome game and everyone I know that has it says it's the best around. And the weapon models are so nice because they're made by Earl. He got hired by BIA last year and moved from Vancouver, BC to Australia to work for 'em.

However I sure as shit ain't paying hundreds of dollars for a game. I'd love to have it but it ain't worth the money for me.

If you want some personal opinions Mac there's a great thread on GR.net pertaining to the VBS1.

This looks real sick. I never made it to the page with the prices though, started losing interest when I found out it cost money, lol. AA spoiled me. ;D

Yeah I hear ya. They put SP into AA and coop, its gonna be sweet and very hard to beat. I am dying for a new game.

I came within inches of buying the RVS gold pack, but didn't, lol. I will though. I can't have too many games at once or I get nothing done.

Looks dope as hell, but 50$ for an addon for a game that costs 15$? hell nah thats just rediculous!

Title: Re:VBS1
Post by: Whisper_44 on September 17, 2004, 06:50:47 pm
Are those models compatible with OFP?

That may not entirely be true, as there is a way to use OFP mods with VBS-1, not sure why it wouldn't work the other way. The only hitch being that VBS-1 shipped with a 128bit USB Key that must be plugged in at all times to play, and ad-ons for VBS-1 are digitaly encrypted with your own personal ID# so that content cannot be stolen. - This from Parabellum,

@Ogre_h talk to either Earl-Para or Gordo Viper about reverse compatibility with OFP an check the VBS-1 thread over at GR.net - some good screen shots ;D

Title: Re:VBS1
Post by: WardenMac on September 18, 2004, 01:02:09 am
Played online the other night. Really fun. Reminds me of GR with smooth char movement and badass models. It was by far the most fun Ive had with a online game to date, but bare in mind it was coop, and I love coop play.
I still stick to my statement that if AA incorporates single play and coop the correct way, it will be hard to beat.
For now this scratched my itch for a new game, with a new experience. Really fun and the most advanced AI on both sides Ive seen to date.
The net code seems very good too, ran really smooth and we were not running off a server but a buddies personal computer from Aussie land. Anyway, I may grab some SS and post some later.

I haven't posted here in a long time but continue to download the great mods here.  This VBS1 looks great but that $150 dollar price is steep.  Mmm...I'll have to talk to my training Lt. at work and see if I can convince him to buy it (for me of course) for our new CIRT training tool.    ;D  I doubt it though.

Your guess...those are posted from an upcioming ad-on, not public, I stole it from the VBSresources forums.

I'll try to take pics of all the units available, my guess is there are over 100 to choose from, across all the various ad-ons out.

Gordo at gr.net has posted quite a few in the VBS1 screenies thread over there...some wicked cool stuf in this game. And you have to know if my sorry as can script a mission in less than 30 minutes, they are doing something right

Just saw this one

Yeah I cant fly the damn thing either. Viper took me for a ride the other day, I was the gunner and we had to attack a convoy. Fun stuff.

Title: Re:VBS1

I finally killed my old Thrustmaster rig, so flying is real tough now.
I guess I'll have to shell out the big ones and grab their new HOTAS. (http://us.thrustmaster.com/images/hotas/hotas_logos.gif)
At least these stick lasts forever. If my F16FLCS was USB I'd still be using it. That and having enough room in the APT. :(

Cobra I'll send you a recap on Instilation, it can get a bit tricky, took me 2x to get it right....

In the meantime - where's Oger_h - do you fly in OFP with the stick? I'm having troubles with the keyboard, not as responsive as I'd like?

@ Whisper
When it first came out I did, but then I swithced PCs (no more gameport) and residences and couldn't fit the stuff anymore. Its been so long I don't remeber if it was a better control fit. When I get a bigger place, I'm definately getting a Thrustmaster. I miss flight sims, and hell there's nothing like doing the Mechwarrior torso twist with rudder pedals. I almost never touched the keyboard in that game.
I can't figure out what OFP uses as a rudder. The keyboard sucks for flying. I don't know how to side-slip or anything. I just wind up doing strafing with the choppers. I always wind up crashing the jets. The ironic thing was that OFP and IGI both were built on flight sim engines, that's how they were able to creat such huge maps.

Nice Super Cobra by the by.

Title: Re:VBS1
Post by: Whisper_44 on September 24, 2004, 05:30:33 pm
In VBS1 flight controls by default as as listed here -

Q - Altitude Up
Z - Altitude Down
A - Rudder Left
C - Rudder Right
Left & Rigth Arrows are Roll
Up and Down are Forward - Reverse

As I understand it you need to gain forward momentum to build up speed, but I can say that the "Littlebird" doesn't more forward very fast at all, I can almost run faster on the ground, I guess this is due to it's "low" wieght, doesn't build up the inertia..whatever - I'm having fun with this game like I never have before - the AI is Wicked smart, and I haven't even started learning how to script AI behaviors, I'm merely placing them on the map and giving them a "Combat Aware" behavior setting...let's just say they are kicking my ass more oftenthan not. ::)

Post by: bugkill on September 25, 2004, 11:36:24 pm
well, i just ordered my copy and i should have it next week. like i told whisper44, won't have much time with it :(, but duty calls. i'm only spending $250 on the sim and i really don't worry about it. some people say that it is not worth it, but the guys that have it, say it is pretty good. i say "to each their own", i just hope that we are allowed or helped to change the limitations within the engine. i will try and use some of the maps that i have with resistance and work with ways of creating real world missions.

I agree - we need to get our connection issues resolved, we can't rely on the boys on the other side of the world to sustain our MP habit.

This game really is something else,  I ordered my OFP:GOTY (OFP, Red Hammer, Resistance) from the UK on eBay last week,  less than $30 USD shipped.

I can get 95-98% the OFP:R add-ons to work with VBS1, not pratical for MP missions, but, it opens up some serious SP - Editor fun for me.

Yeah, I think I need that and two encrypted addons. Those being BAS Saboteur and Para's Rangers.

Games kinda runnin alittle slow FPS wise so far though, gotta find the sweet spot still in the settings.

Title: Re: VBS1
Post by: WardenMac on January 11, 2005, 06:40:09 am
whats are ur specs? Also obviously view distance, terrain detail, etc..will effect it. I have 9700 pro vid card and I run it on normal settings, about 2000 for view distance, frame rates set to about 17, and visual quality about the middle of slider. If you have your settings set too high, the game wont start, it will have a "out of memory" message.
Grab msn and I will walk you through some more tweaks. If you install the dxdll, go to the members discussion forum, page three adn look for thread Kegreyts DXDLL, on page two of that thread are ss of settings to get you different effects. Its well worth it, makes the game look totally different, without suffering performance loss.
I also have a user.INI file I can send you that tweaks settings and improves the graphics as well.

Title: Re: VBS1
Post by: Suicide_Commando on January 11, 2005, 07:23:46 am
P4 1.9
1 gig PC2100 SDRAM
GeForce FX 5800

I just need to keep playin with the settings I guess. Prolly got something up too high. Currently view distance is only at around 1400. Model detail might be too high or somethin. Seems to stutter every ten steps or so, might be trying to load something. I'll keep playin around with it.

VME has released their PLA mod!

They've released more movies on the resource site. Also the Artillery module is available.
The convoy module is looking really cool.
The enhanced armor video show how you can fight from the hatches of armored vehicles, like Lavs and M1s and the Cargo aircraft shows how you can now move around aircraft and load cars into cargo planes.  ::applause::
