Title: Port forwarding Post by: Scrach on February 22, 2004, 05:16:11 pm I figured out I need to do some port forwarding crap on my router to alow me to host games. I know where to get the port numbers and stuff I just need a good description of how to set them.
My router is a lynksys thx :) Title: Re:Port forwarding Post by: .vooDoo. on February 22, 2004, 06:24:59 pm login to your router using 192.168.1.1 by default username and pw are admin.
goto advanced/forwarding. put the ports in the port fields and the ip of the computer you hosting on.(ie:192.168.1.100) You can go into your system prefs and click on network to get the machine ip. thats it, hit apply and continue. good luck voods Title: Re:Port forwarding Post by: GhRa> Skipper on April 03, 2004, 07:29:08 pm why is it 192.168.1.1 and not 192.168.0.1?
if It has to do with router, nm, but I was just wondering... I have netgear, and I made a schedule to allow certain ports to be forwarded to the computer I host on, and its worked fine. =D I have no idea why im writing this, but hey.. lol Title: Re:Port forwarding Post by: BFG on May 06, 2004, 03:59:51 pm lol skipper.
btw. There is an alternative to the port forwarding etc which is to use DMZ (DemiliterisedZone) which basically pops your computer up from behind the firewall - downside is decrease in security... upside is lack of fiddling about with ports. Title: Re:Port forwarding Post by: Scrach on May 12, 2004, 04:34:21 am Well thx for answering an old post but I figured it out. I don't like DMZ because might as well just be directly connected to the internet.
