Title: iTunes 7
Post by: :MoD:Shade on September 13, 2006, 04:54:08 pm
The new iTunes is very cool.  I love "Cover Flow", it provides a great visual to a usually boring interface.  Haven't played around with much more of it but right now iTunes is automatically getting all my artwork for me which is also very convienent. :D

Yes iTunes 7 is pretty cool, but I don't understand some GUI decisions like the very ugly black bar in the library column. Further I dislike the fact that you need an iTunes account to download covers. Not everyone owns a credit card, which is mandatory.

Another pretty cool and convient way to get your artworks is: GimmeSomeTunes (http://members.chello.at/eternalstorms/try.html)

At all it is a solid update, but is it just me or does the startup need much longer? I always get a status bar that iTunes reads the library files.

Mauti are you sure it completed updating the first time? if it didn't finnish updating the library etc the first time round it will restart it each time you load itunes.

I like what i see at the moment, the album flick is nice (i've seen a better implementation of it which was nicer though) and there are a few odd GUI elements - but on the whole i like it - nice having music and vids split up etc, and the ipod integration is VASTLY improoved.

No kidding, and a nice move imo. visually i have a few quarlms, like the color of the scroll bars but i expect when the whole OS updates and iTunes presumably gets tweaks then we'll adjust. but all good moves!

replying via psp...

i dig the whole itunes movement. coverflow is sweet. i really like the new album covers view.

BUT... the thing handles my library terribly.

i have 38000 songs and even just scrolling lags my itunes. ???

@ Coverflow comment, they were paid enough not to talk about details. iTunes is after all SoundJam people!

I just discovered that iTunes 7 doesn't save the automated added covers into the MP3 ID Tags. It saves them in an folder outside, which is totally stupid. Now if you move your mp3's to your USB stick or non iPod player they doesn't include the covers. Only if you add the covers manually or with other software the covers will be added corrected and are included in the MP3 file.

I hope they change this or make it so that once you move the MP3's out of iTunes it attaches the covers correctly to the files.

what the scooby? these seems more and more like a half done job? these are basic issues that should have been sorted, and why the heck is it that we still can't have multiple librarys from different locations/drives? (yes u can manually i know, but not automatically through itunes)

Well you can press 'alt' while starting iTunes and then you can load a different library, but still just one at a time…

Last but not least I discovered a little bug in the main library - if you do right click on a song and select load cover it changes the play view to the equalizer overview, where you can see the right and left audio gauge.

@ BFG: yes it finished updating my library, but it still need to longer to load with a status bar at  startup.

i've just double checked, your right i think mine is loading slower now as well, about 7ish seconds which seems like rather a long time (ie 7 seconds from clicking the icon to window loaded)

ouch weak.

well on a GUI note Mauti, UNO, the unified GUI interface project (http://gui.interacto.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=28&Itemid=38) has updated to accommodate iTunes and fix a few odd apple mistakes!

One thing that pisses me off about iTunes and I'm surprised they haven't added this yet is sub categories in your playlists.  So for instance I could have an Electronic cetegory and under that the sub-genre's and under each of those the record labels I have that happen to be in that sub-genre... that'd make navigation a lot easier, at least for me.

Um just create folders mate - and put folders inside those folders thus creating sub catagories.

ahh nice bfg...didnt realize you could make folders on itunes...just playlists/smart playlists.  That helped me alot.  The new iTunes runs great on my new PC :)  Then again, so does everything else.

Yeah i'm loving the new folders mate they make like so much easier - i had a side bar as tall as me before and now i can get it all nice and short, with catagories and sub catagories of playlists and smart playlists in folders!

lovely! :)

has anybody else had problems with playlists randomly mixing in with eachother... I found a whole playlist mixed in with a different playlist... fixed that and again today I noticed that same thing.  Actually, they not only mixed in with another playlist but they all seem to have doubled as well. fuckin a

god dammit... it happened again just now... fuck it, I'm just using the library from now on. swift through my 10,000+ songs to find the one I want to listen to.
