Title: Safari vs. Firefox
Post by: spike on February 10, 2005, 11:32:56 pm
Safari has seemed really slow to me lately, so I just downloaded firefox. I was wondering what you all use or recomend.

I find safari faster than firefox. I also find the GUI of safari to be far superior. The general presentation is much better through safari, and I've never had any compatibility issues that can be fixed with the debug override of anti apple sites.

Safari prodominatly... but i somtimes hit problems with safari not meeting standards - and problems with javascript  etc   so then i turn to firefox.

Firefox is great - but i much prefer the GUI of safari.

Yes it does.

I used Firefox for a while because it seemed like it loaded pages faster for me.  Then went to Opera but had a ton of extra shit that I didn't need.  Eventually landing back at Safari which remains fine for me, but I still keep Firefox just in case.

(just an FYI for everybody, 'Full of Lutefisk in norwegian equates to Full of Shit in english...)

Actually no, but i just felt like taking another jab @ Norwegians in general.  (Dont worry, im 1/4th)
Never used Opera, my progression was from IE to Safari.

The one thing i really liked about IE is that you can tab through every part of the loaded page, so if for whatever reason your mouse is fUx0red you can still get around in sites.  Not so w/ Safari, which can only tab to a very few certain things.

Otherwise, Safari gets high marks from me.

I figure when I have to use something that Apple software couldn't handle I might as well us a PC...a virtual one!

Damnit, I tried Camino and love it.  Problem is my computer is so slow that I can't post anything because it immediatly uses up all of my CPU.

...that's when you know you need a new computer.

Safari's Pop-up blocker seems to be a bit off recently on sites like macrumors or appleinsder.

there are workarounds for pop-up blockers like in Safari... and more and more sites use them (mainly Mac sites). :P

... Someone told me the other night (cant remember who, myst possibly) that the next version of safari wouldn't let you few PDF within the browser window... well:

Quote
Safari uses the PDF engine built into Mac OS X Tiger to display PDF documents right inside your browser window

My safari has been acting up recently, it's started displaying some pop ups, even though I have the pop up blocker on.

i also keep getting repeated messages that safari could not connect to server, which pisses me off.

yeah, i get the server not found message pretty often too although i know it's there and working. it's really annoying to have to close the error message every time and then re-click the link. it has to be a Safari bug since it doesn't happen in any other browsers... just that these have other disadvantages again that force me to stay with Safari.
