Assult rifles tend to be large, powerful weapons firing large-caliber rounds. They have good range, but tend to over-penetrate and be less controllable than submachineguns. these are good for moderate range fights, and against people in body armor at most ranges.
M4 Carbine, CAR-15, H&K G36K: These are short assult rifles, essentially a submachinegun firing rifle rounds. Accuracy is not as good as the other assult rifles, but they are better at maneuvering in tight spaces. The H&K G36K has a nice scope included.
L85 Individual Weapon, Steyr AUG: These are bullpup assult rifles. They have longer barrles than the carbine's above but are shorter than a full size rifle due to having the magazine behind the trigger. This makes them more accurate than the carbines while still being maneuverable in tight spaces. the Individual Weapon has a nice scope included, while the AUG is lighter and a touch more maeuverable.
M16-A2: The standard US assult rifle. A nice mix of lightweight and good range.
M14, H&K G3A3: Both are big, heavy, accurate assult rifles, just a notch down from the sniper rifles. Good range but very unwieldy in tight corners. Ammo capacity is lower than the other assult rifles due to the larger cartridge.
AK-47, AK-74: The terrorist assule rifles. The AK-47 is bigger and heavier, while the AK-74 is lighter and less powerful.
