Flies' GAMERANGER Tour by *DAMN Mauti 19.9.2003

Written by Flies 2003

[-- INTRO] - [03-JUL-2003]
  • EUROPE-TOUR... WHY NOT?
Hi - this is Flies. After re-re-rebuilding my old motorbike, the motor needs to run at least 2.500 kilometers, before getting full throttle (Almost every part in motor has been renewed or tuned up). I thought it could be fun to use that as a "holiday-excuse" - and make a trip through Europe.

I have already seen a few of you ppl from GameRanger in real life, when I was at Sjaky´s LAN-party this winter. It was really fun to meet cross-clan. And it has been much more fun to meet on GameRanger afterwards, knowing who is behind those strange nicknames.

So, why not make a Europe-tour, with some pit-stops along the way, meeting some of my Gr-buddies ? A little personal crusade you could say, now that I am in the clan with the name EUR.

JUST SAYING HI - If you wanna meet - mb just for a cold beer - mb for for dinner - mb for the fun we could have, going on to Gameranger together, just drop an answer in the smart mail-back form Red Dust made (check link at top).

If you got a couch or whatever to spare, every sleep-over will off course be making the trip easier. If not, no prob. Main part is to meet and see what kind of weirdos we all are.

PHOTOS GETTING UPLOADED DURING TRIP - My plan is to bring along a digital camera, and along the way, Red Dust will upload photos, for the fun of it.

    Hope to meet ya

    Best regards
    [[EUR*] Flies
[-- FESTIVAL AT ODENSE, DENMARK] - [05-JUL-2003]
  • I am right now at the festival, close to a city called "Odense" in mid of denmark.

    festival link: www.mf.dk

The picture shows me in full work-uniform (boomtown T-shirt), demonstrating Ghost Recon to the other hard-core gamers, who are a part of Boomtowns staff. They are all pretty good on PCs and have won many championships in Counterstrike, Battlefield and whatever. But Ghost Recon is too tactic for them. Seems the PC-ppl likes gung-ho games the most.

Inside the big tent, where we had a set-up of 12 PC´s (3,0 Ghz machines), just for gaming and absolutely for free- and 16 PCs for internetbrowsing. Right now everyone here consider this tent the most visited "promotion" tent on the whole festival. Well - with some gray weather + Lan-games for free + hot coffee served - its not that mysterious.

2 minutes after the photos were taken, i finally made it !!! Ghost recon started up on this pc, and from first frame it showed 128 fps !!!! For those who thinks every wish for fps over 60 is hysterical, i can say - you should have tried this, game working like a dream. Its definately two diff worlds - playing ghost on Mac or PC.
[-- MOTOR LEAKING OIL IN TOFTLUND, DENMARK] - [06-JUL-2003]
  • After the festival - saturday - i went for "Toftlund" in southern Denmark, to make the highly needed first check, after rebuild of motor. Plan was to move on from there, and down to Holland.

However - this motorcheck didnt go very well. I spent hours and hours with my mechanic, trying to fix motor to run right. It seems that 2 of the cylinders arent really working right - a thing u dont see at low speed, but whcih certainly shoows when u speed up. The spark plugs for 2 cylinders are coal-black. The other 2 are white as snow. Not good.

While testing, the motor began to leak oil - another downer. OK i mentioned some oildripps after the accident, but since i havent been pressing the motor at oil, i haven't really tested any parts under any stress at all. And that was what we tried yesterday. After all, a 6.000 kilometer trip, going at high speed, need to be prepared. So - we worked till 22:00 last night - and couldnt figure it out. Mood was really down at that time. WE have a few ideas, and i have to test them, as sson as shops opens tomorrow, and i am able to get hands on some spare parts.

So - I arrived at summerhouse 2:30 this night - clothes dripping of oil, and completely smashed myself.

I Think mb. the star should be moved to toftlund, and perhaps blink red this time :-))

I am a bit distressed here - so far this has been a quite expensive trip, only to be back with a motorbike that seems even worse than when I left.
[-- CHOKING CARBURATORS ROARING AGAIN] - [10-JUL-2003]
  • From the distress due to returntrip last saturday-nite, I think my mood has improved rapidly. Seems like this 6.500 kilometer trip through Europe on a 25 year old motorbike, needs a bit more attention, than just driving to the grocery for cigarettes. Also - the crash I had, has damaged motorbike a lot more than meets the eye.

Monday: I unscrewed all 4 carburators, and posted them to my very special friend, the racer-mechanic in southern Denmark. Front and rear brakes tested, brakefluid changed, fork tested and adjusted.

Tuesday: Trip to Copenhagen, to buy spareparts for the electrical system. + a lot of checking routemaps in Europe, to make the best/most pleasant route-plan.

Wednesday: I actually digged up some old special racing-parts for carburator/cylinder connection. Outstanding ! and they fitted.

For the trip: My employer - Boomtown - ensured me, they would sponsor the trip by lending me all necessary photo-equipment (digital camera + USB-devices to make instant uploads). Now we only need to test if their equipment works on mac. Nice deal.

Thursday: The word finally came from my mechanic: Error has finally been detected. The needles inside each carburator were torn to pieces. He made a full-scale restore - and to ensure longlife and well-performance, original parts were considered out of the question. Instead each carburator has been rebuild with racing-parts, stronger and giving a huge extra-amount of both gas and air. As he said "after reaching 3.000 rpm and up to 9.000 rpm, you should be in no doubt that carburator has been improved"!!! I just cant wait to check that out.

    What needs to be done:
Mounting of carburators of course (planned to arrive here Saturday), and then, the big TEST (yehaaaa) to see if bike is worthy of the trip through Europe.
    Grabbing the photo-equipment in Copenhagen.
Rubbing all my old leather-clothes in grease.
Polishing bike (but what the heck...)

If all goes well, it looks like departure wednesday next week.

First stop in Holland and Belgium, to visit RnT and [V]. I would like to meet some Tribe members too, in France, but havent seen any of them on Gameranger for ages. wonder where they are.
[-- TOUR START] - [17-JUL-2003]
  • The tour has started - and what a start....!

Let me get thing straight. So far this trip has been a trip into Wonderland, on a bike that rocks, weather all sunny...and directions on map as easy as can be...

    Not!

Heavy sidewind in Denmark, loosing a sideshield for the bike at 150 km/h, rain in Hamburg (and i do mean RAIN), getting lost inside Hamburg, meeting weirdos from the local ghetto-area, and - u wont believe this - crossing the socalled "Elbbrucke" (Elbe river bridge), there was so much road-construction, that my keys fell out of the iginition on my bike ! After that, a litle intermezzo with the german Polizei...but finally at midnite:

First pitstop is Hamburg - Hi Red Dust !!

I'll leave some details undescribed - just pointing out that we havent gamed that much yet.
I plan to stay here at Red´s place one more night. I'll fill you in later.

This means the schedule for my tour is changed to:

    17/7 2003 Thursday/friday : Red Dust, Hamburg

    19/7 2003 Saturday: Zwolle - RnT-sjaky + V-Dutchman

    20/7 2003 Sunday : (Holland, close to zwolle) RnT-macman

    20/7 2003 Sunday: Belgium, Gent - V-Kinetic

    22/7 2003 Tuesday: Schweiz: BT-Dragon - Lauwil

    22/7 2003 Tuesday/ Wednesday: Schweitz: SPU-doc, Zürich

    24/7 2003 Thursday/Friday: Germany EUR-Neutron, München

    26/7 2003 Saturday/Sunday (monday?): Austria DAMN-Mauti, Wien

    29/7 2003 Tuesday/Wednesday: Germany - EUR-Kickass - Berlin

2/8 2003 Sunday: Denmark - Liseleje - Home of the brave.

Bike runs like shit - parts falling of - weather is terrible - and I feel fine.
[-- FOLLOWING THE NOSE TO HOLLAND] - [20-JUL-2003]
  • I made it again - 20 minutes after my departure from Red Dust, i got completely lost.
Not my fault though. blame it on Mercedes.

U see, at Red Dust place, we taped maps and all routeinstructions to the tank. Clever huh ?
    So we thought,

Only prob is - my bike has this build in "Kill-Mercers" function. It works on full auto - i cant turn it off - sry.
To be explained: When i finally reached the german Autobahn, and wanted to speed up and adjust to the traffic, this Mercedes came from behind (dont they always?) and tried to pass me. Thats when my bike automtically responds. Instant-full-throttle function. Ill spare u the details - i killed the mercedes (yay) and exactly 0,0003 secs later I am completely blinded by some fluffy paper covering my helmet. Twisitng my head i finally managed to get clear vision, just in time to check side-mirror, and see alll my route-plans fiffling around in the air, and landing on the windshield of the Mercedes behind me. "Mission kinda failed" u could say.

So, i guessed my way to Holland and to Zwolle (the more cows u can smell the closer you are to Holland), and at the peak of smell, i met Dutchman. Of course the first thing u want to do, when u meet a virus in live, and you dont have any Norton devices with you: Make an interview.

Enlarge the photo (Dutch and neighbour) and listen to Dutchman explaining the full concept behind Virus Core Values!
[-- HOT BOYS 'N' LI'L GIRLS] - [21-JUL-2003]
  • Ok - I guess its Sunday now. Must be. After party-time till 5 o'clock in morning with Dutchie, Crissie and some neighbours (no complaints), and after a little night-visit to RnT-Sjaky' s boat, the only around here smelling like a cow must be....me.

Anyway - As some may know, RnT-Sjaky kinda pulled back from GameRanger for some time. Sjaky has been to busy for such a childish thing as Gameranger. I went off to see what it really is that occupied Sjaky that much.

First Pic shows RnT-Sjaky and RnT-Dellago at their job. Looks very serious, doesnt it ?
Second picture shows them both in real action. Sjaky as Golf-instructor. Who said childish ?
Third picture is just to prove that sjaky is able to rock in spite of last night adventures. Nice style huh ? I wasnt fast enough to record the "pploop" from ball dropping into the little lake nearby though. This sunday they measured 34 degree Celcius, so everything was done in slow-mo, except for a little car/motorbike chase from the golf-course and back to Zwolle.

In the evening Sjaky tried to play americas Army for the first time. Shooting practise didnt cause that much trouble. But the practise session where u have to go up and under bars.....when i left sjaky, they were still climbing. hehe.

    Monday
Omg - Dutchie and Crissie had to leave for job, so I have been up at 7:15 today !!!
This time its the right exhaustpipe almost falling off - so ill have to visit some do-it-yourself-garage, and hoping to end up at Kinetic in Belgium tonite.
[-- SURPRISE IN BELGIUM] - [22-JUL-2003]
  • After a quick farewell-glance at Sjakys boat, I left both Sjaky and Dutchmann together with all the other very nice ppl in Zwolle.

Speaking of ppl - a little correction here. What you see on 2nd picture is Crissy herself (showing me directions on map for the 7th time) - the one and only coffe-bringer for Dutchie, while he plays CB. The other girl on pic earlier is "just" Dutchies neighbour. Nice surroundings u got Dutchie.

Ok, some 350 kilometers later, and I stood at the doorstep to V-Kinetic and his lovely wife : Marisa.
We got the Bike stoved away, and I was about to dress up for tonites adventures, when suddenly - Trompets - V-Beast himself stood in the doorway.

After much kissing and hugging, we went out in Gent to see the local ten days Festival called: Gentse feesten"......; errrrhh - U know that one of course - right ? I didnt, A festival with a lot of ppl, music and apparently...Gamerangers. See picture below.

    Marisa + Kinetic
    and
    Rosalie + V-Beast

Some beers later i woke up on a couch at Beast and Rosalies place.

Next day i went touristing up to city called Brugge - and on picture u will see Europes second largest tower + Gamerangers second smallest man - on same pic.

Tonite we are all going for the festival i think (if not this Belgium keyboard has taken all available time from Kinetic), and tomorrow its "Zürich - here I come"
Again, i am having too great a time to just run off. so again i stayed for one more night.

    Tour dates update:

23/7 SPU-doc (hopefully, if i can do the trip non-stop)

    25/7: EUR-Neutron

    27/7: DAMN-Mauti

    30/7: EUR-Kickass

    3/8 : Denmark
[-- SHORT BREAK FOR A QUIZ] - [23-JUL-2003]
  • This is Red Dust updating the diary this day:

Preparing his depart from Hamburg, that was definitly not a hasty one, we were sure he grabbed all his own parts and stuffed it onto the bike. But we were wrong... First I found his toothbrush under a cushion and I thought that's it.

However, after his shooting off here I stumbled over another thing he finally forgot here. I believe it's a really important and personal part of him.

Accident or intention? I wonder if he tried to make a famous hollywood movie trick with me when the Lone Ranger leaves something somewhere just to have a reason to come back...?

Well, You all have now the opportunity to guess which part he left at my place. Just enlarge the shot for a better view at the parts.

    Greetings
    Red Dust
[-- FROM BELGIUM TO ZÜRICH ON “ELITE-LEVEL”] - [25-JUL-2003]
  • Wow – this has been quite some heavy days. Hmmm – lets first get the wheels rolling: Having played a lot of Rogue Spear with me, Beast wanted to make sure I didn’t get lost on map. He escorted me to the Autobahn or whatever they call it in Belgium, and pointed : This way, approx 800 km. And You are in Zurich. Easy huh ?

34° Celcius and 800 km more to go

I will spare u the details on trip – just pointing out that if u wanna go the cheap way on autobahn in France, just buy a motorbike. Finally a nice experience. I saw all the cars in front of me handing biiig moneynotes over the cashier to pay for the few kilometers they traveled. However motorbikes are charged next to nothing. Ha !
10 o´clock in nite I arrive at the boarder to Zurich. At this hour its nice to know you are close to target, and all seems pretty easy from here.

    NOT !

First they charge you 200 million Swissfrancs in order to drive on their highway. THEN a stubborn police officer suddenly says: You are NOT going to enter Switzerland on THAT bike. Its in oil Geschmurtz. Go back to deiner Germany!”
    . ….errrrrr….
After recovering from the pleasant compliment that Germany suddenly belonged to Denmark, I realized I had just been deported from Heidi-land.
Grmbl. What could I do ?

My bike was dripping oil, so they wouldn’t let me in and be a serious risk to their whole Swiss Autobahn-system.
I went back 1 kilometer – covered behind some buildings – and dried up the oil with some paper. Went back – and after some arguments, we all agreed that the motorbike just might be able to go to Zurich without causing earthquakes or whatever.
2 o´clock in night : Entering Zürich. And finding out I didn’t have either SPU-docs phonenumber, nor his full address.GJ Flies. I needed internet-conn to get info. Where to get info at 2 in nite ? Hotel mb. I parked motorbike in front of a little hotel called “ Baur Au Lac” and before I could reach the door, a little man with white gloves opened up, understood my prob, unlocked their closed internetconference room, started up computers (for free), stopped the police downstairs, who wanted to know if the oildripping monster on the pavement outside belonged to a thief in here.
“its ok – the vehicle belongs to one of our guests!” Nice man.
I found address, dripped a little more oil on his thick carpets, got a map from him, and was sent in right direction - with a big smile, but no “hope to cya again” however.

[-- ENTERING SPU-LAND] - [26-JUL-2003]
  • OK – I know how boring it is for gameranger ppl to constantly having to look at girls in diff. stages of undressing, so u wont get pics of the street where SPU-doc lives. Neither will I bore you with all the strange looking ppl that tried to sell me dope. Lets just accept that I got up there, said to hello SPU-doc and his room-mate (no, the SPU-clan is not gay, although I suspect them for incest – for various reasons) drank 20 beers plus some good old Jack D. and fell asleep while trying to play on computer.

Next day I woke up, excited to see who, where and what I had got myself into. Check picture – SPU-doc trying to be nice host. Espresso made the coolest way I ever seen. In middle of progress Doc actually have to kick machine on the side. And then it works.

    The SPU-clan is a bit…..errrr….different.

First – they are the only GR-clan I have heard of, that can gather all members in real world, within 30 minutes. Next – you are not sure wether its members are inspired of Hells Angels, Six Pistols, or a peace-conference. We had some good time (I even tried to jump of a bridge and swim through the citycenter, in canals with trains, Mercedes and ppl all around me – its true)!

    SPU-Doc in his morning gown

    Horse-meat at the clangathering.

    SPU-doc and SPU-Virtual going into horse-mode.

    Flies (stand-in u could say), SPU-RAF and SPU-Virtual taking the bottom-line. SPU-doc and SPU-Mono on top (still).

Well – I left Zürich and SPU , after very friendly assistance with repairing my gasoline-pipe that was broken (We used some steel-wire from below of the espresso-machine).
Last I saw, they were heading back to their Macs and Gameranger. Good luck SPU - welcome back !

[-- FROM HEIDI TO HOLLYWOOD (WITH LEDERHOSEN)] - [28-JUL-2003]
  • I thank C-Splinter for your kind invite of me to sleep over, if the bike-trip included LA. Although my skills in getting-lost on maps have improved heavily, I honestly didn’t expect this trip to include a stop in Hollywood. But little did I know.
Trip from Zürich to Munich…piece of cake. I kinda like to roar through 5-6 km long tunnels, with my minidisc-player on full volume, and exploding into a sunny valley-road.

Arrival here in Munich was pretty timed. “Hi Flies – this is Neutron, we are about to go bowling in Hollywood in 10 minutes”.

EUR-Neutron lives in a big house, with his family – completely wired up with macs everywhere. Nice !
So we went for the Munich version of Hollywood, -bowling. Besides all the videoscreens and neonlightened bowlingballs, they also had a kind of toastmaster, who tried to make sure nobody felt too much at home. Dressed in roller-skates, headset and…lederhosen. Neutrons girlfriend is to be feared btw. Not only on the bowling-fields – nono: She plays great – looks great – and now she wants to play on Gameranger, to speak english great !
    Lucky bastard Neutron!

Some touristrip down Leopoldstrasse ( Some kind of german “Champs Elysse”) , and then we were done for.
This night has almost been paradise for me. I got the honour of sleeping in Neutrons bed (alone – sniffle), with Neutrons old G3 mac-server on the other side of the wall, turning the music on and off, dimming lights, making coffee and other stunts. Room included orange curtains and Neutrons own orange handpainted decorations, sleeping at an electrical engineer really rocks. So far Neutron has even convinced me I should try to play Rainbow Six – and worse: He wants me to try Lederhosen too!

Tomorrrow is hereby declared:“ Flies Jubiläumstag für die Lederhosen und das Bier” – omg.

[-- GETTING RAPED IN VIENNA] - [30-JUL-2003]
  • Trip from Neutron in Munich to DAMN-Mauti in Vienna started the "traditional" way. First EUR-Neutron helped me fix my bike (this time it was the drive-chain that needed mending), and then some 450 kilometers through mountains, rain and fastcars. I even spotted a few Dodge Vipers along the road. Btw - at a tankstation i got biten by a horse. I was walking by a horsetransporter, with routeplanning on my mind. Then suddenly this horse sticks its head out, and takes a little taste of my leatherjacket. Grmbl.

Arrived in Vienna with no further probs - and oh man, this city really still looks like something out of the old B&W movie "The Third Man". Great design, nice houses and old railcars.

And finally, I met THE legend: DAMN-Mauti himself. And shame oh shame. I hereby must confess : Mauti cheats !!!!
Picture shows a screenshot...oh well, at least a shot from screen...and if you look carefull, you will see that we are playing Need for Speed on Mautis Playstation. And.... I got raped big time!!
It took me a little time to find out why. But then i figured it out.

Mauti & Flies seriously testing Need for speed.

As you know, on a Playstation with splitscreen, the driver with A-stick always gets the racecar on top half of the screen.
And thanks to Lothario and others, I know that the TV always updates
picture at 50 Hz from top left and down. Technical this will mean that the driver with the a-drive always get a little ahead on each frame on pic. And Voila - of course Mauti always wanted the car on top of screen. I hereby claim our Finals in Need for Speed 1 (the un-modded 1996 version ) for cancelled, DAMN banned from the Need for Speed ladder, and EUR as rightfull winners.
I hope for admins to take immidiate actions on such serious matters.

OK - next challenge was "Trial-biking" in front of the big castle of the President (who knows, mb he observed). I learned a bit, thanks to Mautis dedicated advice (GO-GO-GO), but ok, I guess i cant claim for any cheats here.

Check out Mautis style on the big jump from big stone and down - on rear-wheel !!! (Also check the admiratin from the girl in background. Go for it Mauti).

And...and..and..omg, we did so many things, I cant remember them all. Touring up in Vienna in Mautis GTI. "On the left you see....(at same time he is accellerating, so the car screeeaaaams), "and on the right u see....(dunno what we passed. Didnt get a chance at 160 km/h)... and so on. But i assume we saw a lot.

On the "Enlightened" picture, u will see me trying to charm some of Mautis friends Did it work ? U will see in next episode of Flies-tour.

Nothing beats impression at first hand. Here is Mauti and Flies checking the fog-cheat on Battlefield (Picture was taken at some exhibiton in a museum. There was this smart setup, so you could see yourself standing on a famous bridge that connected Europe to the arab-world in earlier days. Bridge was bombed to pieces in the civil war in Kroatia).

    <-- Sightseing in Vienna...go-go-go ! ......................I bet only Moley can see us ! -->

Mauti also took me for a spin up to the ...errr...house, where he grew up. Picture shows Mauti in his former control-room. I kinda like the two bears in the chair. Outside again, in front of the stable, we found these 23 sexy horsepowers, all rdy to go. Or not.

    <-- But then i got a computer..............................This is NOT a Fiat -->

Now I am heading into unknown territory - crossing through Chekoslovakia for the next 700 km up to EUR-Kickass in Berlin. If I make it, that is. I can almost see myself getting lost on small roads, stormy mountains, and only a pale moon leading me up to Sir Draculas Castle, with some girl screaming in the deep forest.
Cross fingers plz, this will be the mystery part of the trip.
    Kickass - here I come....I hope.

[-- TRANSIT THROUGH THE EAST] - [02-AUG-2003]
  • So - after taking a deep breath, and kissing the free world goodbye, I fired up my bike and tried to prepare mentally for 800 rainy kilometers. Bike was out of oil, so first part of trip was Mauti leading me to a gas-station, where they sold the most expensive oil i ever bought. Price for one liter was approx 15 Euros.

Crossing the boarder between Austria and Chekoslovakia really gave me some Tom Clancy atmosphere, with lots of police and passport-checking. However, it felt good to suddenly realize my bike was now considered new and sexy (compared to other vehicles here). First 300 km was just rain and rain and rain. Outside Praag the sun suddenly took over. And from then on - i realized what a beautiful country Chekoslovakia is. I am so sorry i didnt take any pics - but i was pretty busy trying to make the bike keep going (one cylinder down).

All i can say is : I gotta see this country again, when I havebetter time. Everything looks like a fairy-tale - and yes; you could throw in some Vampires too. Green, cool, mountains, old buildings...and even some pirates too. Along the road you could buy various stuff for prices that made you wonder where the goods came from. I mean - buying 20 cigarettes at 1 euro pr. pack...or a Jack Daniels for 10 Euros - thats not what I am used to.

Up in very North of Chekoslovakia I suddenly passed the most gorgeous looking girl, making me turn my head off. Then 200 meters further ahead yet a great looking women standing at the side of the road. WOW ! Then 20 meters further ahead 3 girls ! and then 15....... and so on, for the next 20 miles. lol. It was weird driving on a scenic mountain road, with nice forest all around - and then all these girls in kinky dresses, all over. Then I looked at the cars heading the other way. All Mercedes with lonely mid-aged males. Hmmmmm...

5 miles later I entered Germany. Suddenly the roads were without holes....and without chicks.

[-- "ICH BIN EIN BERLINER....."] - [04-AUG-2003]
  • Heading towards center of Berlin at 120 km/h, I recall how confusing Berlin can be, and how difficult it is to find ur way. I stop at a sleezy bar, and ask if they have a payphone, so I can call Kickass for route-directions. Before i know it, the bartender has offered me his own telephone, some other guy is pouring me a beer, and they all are pretty drunk and very willing to help. With combined forces from Kickass on the phone and all the bar in my other ear, i manage to get completely confused. However, I somehow make it - and 10 minutes later I am pressing Kickass´ doorbell.

We are in the very heart of Berlin. Cafe´s are all over. And I mean all over. This city never sleeps, and everybody hangs out in night.
Mood is great and everything is so relaxed here. Kickass too.
So - the next days were party-time bigtime. Check picture and see why Kickass is never taken serious when he complaints about hair in the soup.

Berlin was in a heat-wave: During daytime we had approx 38 degree Celcius, and during night-time we hadapprox 5 percent alcohol-percent in blood. They even had a Beer-festival there. Imagine 3 kilometers of celebrating the god of beer - on picture Kickass and I are only some 200 meters down the line.

A little later all the um-ba-pa and harmonicas and drunken germans got on Kickass nerves. We felt the need for floating down the canals in a little boat. Boat - hmm. We ended up in a water-bicycle. U know - all plastic, makes u sweat big time and goes nowhere - no matter how hard u work. Then suddenly i spotted a suitable transportation. My name IS Flies u know.....

Whenever u wanna see Berlin - make sure u look up Kickass - you will never find a nicer host. My bike clearly needed some serious checking - and in no time Kickass found this Berliner-garage, where they had specialized in repairing worn-out 20 year-old japanese bikes. It was like heaven. Mechanics were fun - and we had some good time there. Beers on the table while bikes were fixed, parts sold at 1/3 of the prices im used to, and so on. The mechanics really got a kick out of knowing that we met through computer-gaming.
Saturday nite I simply cant recall. You will have to ask Kickass. We started with some Dean Martin tapes and then did some serious bar-touring. I woke up in a sofa at 3 o clock in the afternoon - Sunday. Speed-packing with hang-overs - warm goodbye scene - and out on the autobahn. While racing on the Autobahn, i suddenly my sleeping back must have fallen off bike, some 50 kilometers back. Well, who needs a sleeping bag anyway ? Some 280 kilometers later i ended up in Rostock - a VERY eastern-germany looking city.
Dark-grey, heavy industry - another great spot for a Tom Clancy game.

[-- I AM BACK.] - [06-AUG-2003]
