Definition of a veteran? by *DAMN Mauti 19.12.2002

The recent dicussion at the forum leads me to write this short article about the "Definition of a veteran"(related to the R6 community).

Who is a veteran? Is it someone that has a low GameRanger account number? Is it someone who is respected and known by many players or is it someone that plays the game since its release? You see it isn't very easy to define a vet.

In my opinion a veteran combines everything from above but nevertheless it is very relative because it depends if you started to join the community with R6 or RS. For myself most RS players, no matter if the play it since the release, aren't true veterans, because they have never experienced the original game. They are "only" players that are around for a long time. Here are some guys that are veterans in my opinion: Attila, Ace, Wrath, Stevie and few few more... These guys are vets that you still see from time to time. Why are they vets do you may ask? Well for me they are vets because they have seen all highs and lows of the community. They have seen so many clans come and go and they can tell you so much about the R6 community from the past and present as your grandmom knows goodnight stories.

But what about guys like SEALs Tresher, SiX Mephisto, SiX Krez, SiX Kordova, SEALs SlingBlade, SEALs Seamus, SiX JohnNothing(formerly SEALs) aren't they vets as well and why didn't I mention them above. - THEY ARE GONE! that's all I have to say. If they would be still around they would be vets but so nobody knows them except us, vets, and yes I consider myself as veteran as I do *DAMN. *DAMN is one, if not the only one, that is left from the days where SiX, SEALs, *POD* and *DAMN dominated the R6 game rooms of SEED, Syrup and dts. (Although I consider *DAMN as a veteran clan I have to add that when we started in June 2000 SiX, SEALs, Syrup and dts were the feared and respected clans.) Back to topic before I become nostalgical. - They are gone but some of them are legends, GameRanger R6 legends. That's also a point: you have vets, you have players that are a long time around , you have of course noobs and you have legends. - that are guys and clans where you still hear some stories about their ownage from the past.

If you say now I still see some SiX and SEALs. - I can only answer NOOB. The few guys that wear the SiX tag have not much to do with the old SiX and the time they represent and about SEALs - they died very slow.

About RS, the only RS player I would call a vet is Psyco Assassin mainly because of his presence. It seems he was always there.(Assassin excuse me but did you ever play R6?). About Grifter: unfortunaly Grifter was to short among us but I am sure he would have become a veteran.

Of course pals like Ultimo, Voodoo are a long time around but in my opinion(I can only repeat this article only reflects my opinion) they aren't true vets. They are respected and all but... NO, no vets.

To sum up in my opinion the guys, I have met and played together since I joined the community in may 2000, who are still around, play, are well known and respected , are true vets. Guys that have started with RS will never have the same status as a R6 player because we, the R6 players, also formed GameRanger and saw it growing up.

Good old times when I was really addicted to R6 and played up to 5 - 6 hours per day lol. Nowadays I also have fun but I don't feel that much adrenalin as I did when R6 was the #1 game on GameRanger,

Yours,
