Today I will be taking a look at DAMN Bander's latest creation, the Planet of the Apes mod. The mod contains new pictures for 5 guns, 7 new multiplayer skins and 1 single-player skin, new game menus, and several new weapon and game sounds. One very nice thing about this mod is how it's almost fully customizable. You can select the skins you want, turn off the weapon sounds, or restore original menus. Anyway you desire your gameplay you can have with the PoA mod.
Also, to have the best and fullest appreciation for the mod, get the movie, available at your local video store.
- Installer; After a few initial problems in the first release, the installer is now functioning perfectly. Using installer Vise (Available at www.mindvision.com) Mauti has made yet another very professional installer. It is thanks to this installer that the mod is so easy to customize.

- Sounds; In regular gameplay, even the background music hearkens from the movie. The sounds are very realistic, but after hearing demonic laughs and ape-like groans for some time it can get old. However, the new gun sounds are excellent, sounding very realistic. My only complaint is that not all of the weapons have new sounds. Those that do are great.

- Weapon Images; These give a high-quality new look to the Rainbow Six weapons. Although the images come from the ITF mod, they are slightly changed, and offer an interesting new view to the game. Players will enjoy having the new variety after seeing the same old bitmaps forever.

- Menus; These are very highly professional-looking and provide a nice change from the same old backgrounds. Also be sure to check out the nicely-done credits page.

- Skins; These are truly exceptional, the centerpiece of the mod. By far they are the most realistic and fascinating skins I have seen for rainbow six. Also, in a different twist, PoA includes an option to allow skins to change in gameplay. Depending on which map you choose, you can see any of several skin variations.

Only a couple things keep this from being a perfect 10. Unfortunately lacking are the skin previews visible in the lower right-hand corner in the main game screen. Also, using the mixed skins packs, both teams may end up with the same skin. However, I have only seen that in one map, Congo Mansion. Still, it can provide interesting challenges in itself.
I highly recommend this mod to anyone. While it has its weak points, the skins alone make it well worth the download.
