ooooo - laser sights. Cool.
- Haven't you always dreamed of racing into a smoke-filled room, yelling at the top of your voice, weapon raised, and cool laser dots flickering across the faces of the surprised tangos in front of you? Or perhaps it's just me. Obviously I need to up my medication...again
- But, just in case any of you out there share my delusions, this weapon pack is for you. 28 new primaries, 13 new secondaries. 2 of them - an M4 and a desert eagle scoped pistol - have functional laser targeting systems (although you can't actually see your own laser in first-person view, but you can see those of your team-mates, and replays are COOL.)
- The weapons range from a FAMAS, an FNP90 (not as good as Coco's, but much better than the "official" Black Thorn version), several M4 variants, a futuristic UMP45, a Tavor and (of course) a G-11. The models are ok, and get the job done, although they're a trifle blocky. The textures are better.
- The secondary weapons all tend to have large scopes - hence the scoped mauser, scoped browning, scoped beretta, etc - but there are a couple of mausers thrown in for good measure, an SMG II, an uzi, and an M-203 launcher for those having a hard time weaning yourselves off the Counterstrike 2 mod.
- The Special Items are interesting. Nitro grenades are - pardon the pun - particularly explosive. Stand well back. There are also a set of proximity mines disguised to look like ordinary objects you might find lying around in a level (a telephone, a briefcase, etc) these also pack a wallop, so step carefully.
- The sounds in this mod are great. They're not particularly realistic, but they have a real punch to them. There's something terribly satisfying about some of them - but perhaps that's just another warning sign for me...
- Downsides to this mod - no loading splash screens, although perhaps we're just used to being spoiled by Coco (and Alfred E. Neuman does make a cameo); I couldn't get any of the bonus modded levels to work - but that could just be me, if anyone else has better luck with them, then please post in the talkback section; and the lasers have a habit of going through walls - in fact, of going through an entire level. But this is much more of an issue with the game engine than this mod.
- So - download this baby if you want to see laser sights. It's that simple.
Tex SpecOps Mod Overall Rating - 7.5 out of 10
