CSL3 by Copper Review by TRushton 28.10.2001

OK, all you CSL wenches who only do that map on GameRanger - there's a new map in town.

  • It's a bigger version of CSL, to be blunt. 2 u-shaped buildings surround a central open courtyard with what can only be described as a gazebo (or a urinal, I guess) in the centre. The two buildings are linked by bridges, allowing you to cross the map on the first floor.

  • Underneath is a warren of tunnels, linked by short staircases which render your HBS all but useless. There are also a couple of underground storage chambers stacked with crates for cover, and overlooked by balconies.

  • Several versions of the map are provided in both terrorist hunt (50 max) and multiplayer adversarial. There's a night time/snowy night time and rainy version of the map: Nightvision goggles are almost a necessity outdoors on the latter two, especially if sniping is your forte. These add a pleasant atmosphere to the map - but using the training textures as this does, it's looks were never going to be the best. Some more clutter in some of the rooms, just to differentiate a little between the buildings might also have been useful. Although I find I can just drop the bodies of my team-mates behind me to help me find my way back: "Ah yes - this is the room I left Arnavisca in." This map isn't all sniping - the addition of glass to the windows means that a camping sniper will be picked out almost immediately - and the twisting tunnels below require quick CQB skills.

  • Multiplayer starts are either above ground or below ground - and the battle tends to remain on whichever level it begins: the map is large enough as it is. Don't even think of doing this level with fewer than 6 - and more if possible. The only fun you'll have with fewer is seeing who can kill themselves first, because you're unlikely to meet up.

  • So if you like CSL, then you'll definitely like this - give it a go. Other than that, it's a little odd to find Big Ben in the background, and the SAS are based in "Hereford," but little things like that should never get in the way of people with guns...
